? After 35 years, Kentuckians are still waiting for the kinds of opportunities #RichMitch has worked so hard to give himself.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving Putin accomplice… eh, #MoscowMitch?
McConnell says in Kentucky there will likely be another recovery bill “in the next month or so. ..There’s likely to be another bill. It will not be the $3 trillion bill that the House passed the other day, but there’s still a likelihood that more will be needed,” per @alizaslav

@senatemajldr Moscow Mitch McConnell proves the age-old adage:

Sen Majority Ldr McConnell says "there is no stigma attached to wearing a mask" & "you have an obligation to others in case you might be a carrier to take the advice we’ve all been given"

Leader McConnell in a KY appearance declines to comment on Trump's tweet on Minneapolis protesters, "when the looting starts, the shooting starts,” which was flagged by Twitter for “glorifying violence"
— Ali Zaslav (@alizaslav) May 29, 2020
Asked what can be done in Minneapolis, Leader McConnell said Friday, we deal it with prosecution and if the facts warrant it: conviction.
“Everybody's entitled to the protections of the court system, even people who apparently if you see what happened, look pretty darn guilty"

Big ol’ moneybag as the Capitol Dome. I like it.

I am hearing there was tear gas deployed in Fort Wayne, Indiana. And all kinds of towns and cities.
How is this helping the Republicans one damn bit, if Trump agitates a race war based on demonstrated police brutality? I suspect the Republicans’ cake is baked for this fall, assuming we can have a full and fair election.
I wonder if there will be another attempt to remove Trump from office, to try to save some of the downballot. I realize that everyone is afraid of Trump’s base of deplorables.
Personally, I think there are less of them than are assumed, and they’re making enemies daily.
Do people really want to see ugly white men in camo with assault rifles, hassling their state legislators?
Most Americans are good with mask wearing. Do we really want to get hassled for wearing one?
This is going too far.

Never ceases to amaze, the Texas Two-step is a dance craze all over the Nation, occasionally!
Lord, my rage is bit righteous and exhausting!
Not sure if communal rage has reached a tipping-point, but it is beginning to feel that way?!
Thoughts?

It’s startling that the very young (and dark-haired) Mitch McConnell looks a tad like Jared Kushner’s homelier brother.
feebog
It’s a good ad. But let’s face it, it will take a huge blue tsunami to get rid of the turtle. That said, I like our chances to flip the senate. AZ, CO, ME, NC all look like pickups for Dems. IA, MT, GA, KS, all in play.
Tom Levenson
I do not dare to allow myself to hope. It’s Kentucky.
But if McConnell loses I will take second place to no one in my joy.
And I’ll be on the phone, hard, to my senators and representative to expand the federal judiciary to whatever level needed to allow President Biden to reverse the long running GOP judicial coup.
Tom Levenson
@feebog: I still hold out hope that the stench of Auburn will be enough to help Doug Jones to a full term in Alabama.
Hope is probably too strong. A dream. A fantasy. A deeply desired outcome.
Brachiator
Further confirmation why a November victory for Democrats is essential. From NPR
The dissent, written by Justice Kavanaugh, is just flat out stupid.
But, as Roberts noted
Trump must be defeated. He cannot be allowed to install more idiot judges.
Redshift
@feebog: It will, but we shouldn’t leave anything on the table. There are races in VA in 2017 and nationwide in 2018 that post-election analysis suggests we could have won, but the party didn’t think they were winnable and didn’t put resources into them.

The 3rd Rail of California politics is Prop 13, which limited property tax increases and triggered vast changes to how government and services are funded. In tumultuous times, big unexpected changes sometimes occur.
I can smell the sweat from here.

@Tom Levenson: Back in the day, there was a saying about how Auburn got its name:
Alabama Usually Beats Us ‘Round November.
Let’s hope it’s true in the political as well as the football sense.

I missed the last thread, so I don’t know if anyone noted that Trump’s whine about the mayor of DC “wanting money” is about Trump stiffing DC (and every other city) on the security costs for his events, and turning it into a slanderous lie about not having the DC police protect him.
Ruckus
@Brachiator:
Never forget that the federal judges also require senate conformation – that’s moscow mitch at the ready, to install all the worthless, drunk, rapists as federal judges that he can find.

McConnell will continue to support Trump for precisely as long as he can get away with it. An old friend— a former D House staffer who has no illusions about politicians— calls McConnell a snake. I doubt that Trump sees McConnell as anything but subservient. But McConnell is probably already preparing right now for Trump’s fall.
Jinchi
I used to wonder that too, but their moment has passed. Republicans will turn on Trump the day he leaves office and not a day sooner.
debbie
This is the first non-Trump ad I’ve seen from the Lincoln Project. Good and may there be many more for the many other very deserving.
WaterGirl
@Jinchi: If Trump loses, he’ll be the new “coffee boy” of every Republican in the legislature. “I hardly knew him.”

It is very possible that http://PostcardsToVoters.org will be writing for McConnell’s eventual Democratic opponent later this year.
I recommend signing up now (or soon), in order to try out their postcarding system – part of the sign-up process is to write one (1) postcard – and to be ready to jump in when the time comes.
Signing up now will also ease the load on the PTV organizers; the sign-up process takes a bit of extra labor at their end.
At a minimum, now is a good time to read through the information on their website, including the FAQ page. (They are very thorough, which I appreciate.)
MattF
@debbie: The Lincoln Project asked supporters who they should take on, besides Trump. McConnell ‘won’.
debbie
Huh, clashes on a lovely Saturday afternoon. The police here have started teargassing protesters, including U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty. This won’t end well.
debbie
@MattF:
Thanks.
Josie
Attorney General Barr just made a statement in which he spoke of outside of state protesters who promulgated violence in Minnesota and other places. Strangely, though, he listed anarchists and radical leftists, but he forgot to mention right wing radicals as possible violent participants. Hmmmm, how could he have forgotten them?
Jinchi
@WaterGirl: I think Trump will lose badly in November. Unfortunately, he’ll still be in office for nearly 3 months and I expect he’ll try to burn everything down. The real question is whether Republicans will allow him to get away with it. They could easily plant bombs in the economy set to go off during Biden’s watch.
debbie
Huh. A black jogger just jogged past my building carrying a “Black Lives Matter” banner. Not many people are out, but there were scattered cheers.

Here’s a disturbing story about the Corona Virus and the exploitation of farm workers:
Note that the 3 “staff” don’t have to keep working.
These employers probably don’t care whether the farm workers take the virus back to their home country.

OT: child’s birthday party on the devil strip across the street from us. 2 kids about 8 years old. At least 10 adults. Not a mask in sight and no social distancing. Don’t they know how many dogs poop on that strip every day?
Our local protest is by all accounts going on peacefully downtown. Started at the Safety Building (police headquarters, courts and jail) around the university and then back past city hall.
trollhattan
@Sab:
Wait, they have a devil stripper at a kid’s birthday party? Some neighborhood!

Speaking of republican venality, has anyone here mentioned this story about the actions of the republicans in the Pennsylvania legislature? One of their caucus tested positive for Covid and they didn’t share the information with the democrats working along side them.

Anyone who hasn’t at least skimmed the bellingcat[1] piece on /k/ and Boogaloo might want to have a look.
The Boogaloo Movement Is Not What You Think (May 27, 2020, Robert Evans and Jason Wilson)
[1] Belling the Cat
“The fable concerns a group of mice who debate plans to nullify the threat of a marauding cat. One of them proposes placing a bell around its neck, so that they are warned of its approach. The plan is applauded by the others, until one mouse asks who will volunteer to place the bell on the cat.”

Cincinnati Police Chief says people outside of Cincinnati were involved in violence last night but is not saying any more at this time. 10 PM curfew in 4 neighborhoods tonight. I’m about 5 minutes from the protests last night. Protests were peaceful for 5 hours before violence started.
I hope Le Compte’s daughter is OK.

@RedDirtGirl: It’s been discussed in the comments, and someone has asked for it to be front-paged. I keep waiting for someone else to do it, but if not, I will put it up.
It’s beyond appalling. It’s amoral, and I think it should be criminal.

Is this nugget about Tubberville well-known in Alabama? When Tubberville decided to leave Texas Tech for Cincinnati, he was hosting at a Lubbock restaurant a dinner for football recruits on official visits when he excused himself to take a phone call. On that call, he accepted the Cincy job.
And he never returned to the table to tell the recruits what was up. It seems that level of treachery might be upsetting even to MAGAts.

@Brachiator:
That’s far more stupid than I expected Bret Kavanaugh would be writing, the more fool me! What about asking for examples of “comparable secular businesses”???? I can’t think of a secular business comparable to a place of worship… help me out, Bret!
Regarding Mitch McConnell, I still want to see his DD-214, which would perhaps show why he was discharged just a few months into at least a 2 year hitch in the Army. Draftees served 2 years back then, volunteers served 4 years, and I don’t know which McConnell was.
But he was discharged under odd circumstances after just a few months in service, and hasn’t mentioned in his campaigns, ever, that he is a vet, which in a red state like KY seems so strange. No telling why the discharge, but I understand the defense department no longer has a copy of the particular DD-214, which is even more strange.

@Calouste:
Certainly the megachurches are hotbeds of patriarchal theocracy turned into a money making machine for the head pastors, who cloud much of their income by having the church buy them a mansion, a Gulfstream Jet, fancy cars, pool boys, a for-profit university, etc, etc.
Ruckus
@J R in WV:
I would think that a senator, especially the senate majority leader would have zero issues making his DD214 disappear quietly and discretely. Doesn’t everything come down to who you know and is why the schlubs have a much harder time getting anything done?

I responded to a land-line poll here in Georgia a few days ago and this prompted me to look at polling in Georgia. There hasn’t been much, but the one I found has
Biden 48% Trump 47%
Ossoff (D) 47% Purdue (R) 45% <– this is the regular Senate race
Warnock (D) 45% Loeffler 32% <– special election Senate
!!!!! It’s only one poll, and the first two are within the margin of error, but it’s still exciting to see it so close in Georgia!
