He took over the investigation on Sunday, and today:
Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office on Wednesday upgraded charges against the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck and charged the other three officers at the scene with aiding and abetting murder.
Also, this city councilman’s long thread (this is the start) is getting a lot of attention. The gist is that council members suggesting even the mildest of reforms could expect Minneapolis cops to drag their feet responding to calls in their district. He’s talking about disbanding the police and starting over. (Click on the date of the tweet and then click on “Show This Thread” to read the whole thing — it’s long.)

@Dorothy A. Winsor: bless his heart. What’s interesting is that he sold his soul, but he’ll still be fired on Friday.

Yeah. As I’ve said before – cultures are difficult if not impossible to change in a piecemeal manner. If you can perhaps find the individuals within the culture that are conscious victims of it and keep them, that may work, but there usually aren’t many of them. They tend to get the message and get out.
Further, I’m not sure logistically how you pull something like that off without running afoul of god knows how many labor laws.

Man, Esper went tough for, what, a third of a news cycle?

At first, I started watching the Floyd video. But I stopped it after not too long.
Then yesterday, I watched the NY times explainer thing.
I noticed what when Floyd limp, a man, and a younger white women were standing there watching. She ordered the copp to get off of him, and too take his pulse. Of course the copp couldn’t be bothered to take his hand out of his pocket.
The copp disrespected the authority of that white women. Is that what’s different about Floyd?

Comments like this are useless; what part of this woman got what was being done to Floyd was a moral outrage and she tried to do something about it don’t you get? Or would it suit you better if all white people danced around in white robes screaming the N word all the time?
Yes, that’s part of the outrage; that these cops have no shame, no respect for anyone but other cops and will murder their victims of the day in front of god, the internet and everyone. Jesus Christ.

So much for the faked concerns about “property damage” and “following the law”,……

@Jay:
Cuomo specifically denied this today in his press conference. He denied that he called the Chief of Police (which the reporter asking the question alleged) and denied that he apologized. He said he called the Police Commissioner, and he said that the cops are good but the cops’ management didn’t deploy them correctly. So, I’m sure he’s trying to have it both ways a little bit, but that’s what he said.

NYPD Cops are actively rioting against the Citizens they are sworn to protect and providing zero protection to the communities against looting and property damage
Whole police forces are complete rotten barrels, and untouchable by the Politicians because they are still, cluelessly decades behind current realities, swimming in Copaganda and are now scared shitless of the excessive power, training and weapons they gladly gave the Cops.

I’ve thought this before, but this time it really feels different. Maybe police will finally be held to account in this country. They do what they do because up until now they’ve had social license. It’s being revoked.
Jay
oopzwtf
Do the three aiding and abetting charges require a conviction on the single murder charge?
Jay
@Capri:
there will be places, perhaps Seattle, where the Cops ranks will be gutted, budgets cut, new training in deescalation imposed, monitoring enforced, and new “use of force” rules laid down to protect the citizens from the cops.
then there will be places like NYC where the NYPD is an occupying army, and both the State and City leadership is filled with Petainists.
Jay
Quite the thread, quite the Occupying Army in Richmond, quite the “lesson” they are trying to teach the citizens,
“The beatings will continue until morale improves”.

In the video of the young couple being tased and pulled out of their car, I thought I saw someone in uniform run up and stab at least two tires, possibly all four. Did anyone else see that?

New computer. Yee-haw!

It’s been geolocated to a place 32 blocks from any riot sites or protest sites in front of a brownstone undergoing facia repair and repointing,
Cops are also calling water bottle trash beside an unused tampon an “undentonated Molotov Cocktail IED”.

@Jay: I keep hearing about a few bad apples, but it’s starting to look like an orchard.
Roger Moore
@Jay:
My gut feeling is this mostly reflects insecurity on the part of the police rather than a deliberate disinformation campaign. They’re nervous and scared, so they see even mundane, harmless things as scary.
Jay
@Roger Moore:
it’s the NYPD. You know, the ones involved in uncontrolled Cop Riots, murderers of peaceful black folks, the Occupying Army in New York City.
It’s deliberate Copaganda. Deliberately letting looters run free, lying about a $2million dollar theft from The Rolex Store, only to have Rolex point out, the store was closed because of Covid and all the inventory was transfered to a Secure Storage Facility months ago, the Police force that made both the Governor of the State and Mayor of the City publically get down on their knees and suck their cocks for issueing the mildest criticism of the NYPD attacking citizens peacefully expressing their First Amendment Rights, brutalizing those they arrested with out cause, attacking Journalists on camera, and deliberately exposing over 10,000 to Sars-Covid 19.

Thinking about the past few days, and the many cruel acts by the police, and the President, and… god damn it, but this country has lost its fucking mind!
“We’re angry that the police hurt people without justification”
“Oh, you ARE, eh? You’ll feel differently after I bash you with my riot shield, and spray your face full of pepper spray!”
I mean, in what kind of world does that sort of attitude make any sense? I mean, I can’t be the only person who sees that as building up more anger, and more resentment, and proving to ever more people that the protestors are right.
I’m sorry if people have turned cops into special snowflakes who can’t admit it’s wrong for cops to kill man, and that it looks REALLY bad for them to be so callous to do it while being filmed, with people screaming at you to please help the poor guy. If you really want to pull out the “it’s a few bad apples” arguments, here are the worst bad apples you can imagine; this is the time to side with the protestors, or at least not go out with the express intent of bashing heads.
