The Lincoln Project Biden ad was what started me looking for other ads. And Biden campaign dropped the “Doesn’t Care” this morning.
Posting these videos isn’t a comment on their policies or chances. I just went looking for campaign videos to see how things were looking.
They are not all barn burners, but I think they fit their constituency. Dr. Bolier, a former Republican, knows what she’s up against and healthcare seems like a winning strategy.
Compared to her original campaign announcement, Amy McGrath seems almost tame in this video. I know nothing about KY politics except they produced McConnell and Paul, so fuck them.
Mark Kelly has a couple of good ads up – one on healthcare, another on middle class/education, but I liked this one with Gabby.
MJ Hegar is still winning the game in my estimation. Family, military, health care, humor…
For the remainder of the Senate candidates, they need to up their ad game IMHO, but it’s early yet and campaigns are expensive. Bullock of Montana website is sad and I found no videos. Some are still in primary campaigns – Colorado’s Hickenlooper, Maine’s Gideon (and what’s going on in Maine – I thought their primary was March 3 – or is it like CO – separate primaries Pres and then the rest?).
Again, if you see an ad you like or a particular position taken by someone that’s looking to flip a state or district, send it my way.

Buffalo officers quit special team after 2 officers are suspended for shoving a 75-year-old protester
They were just following orders! These assholes would’ve let Himmler walk at Nuremberg! Silly, naive me, here I was hoping they were resigning out of disgust for the treatment the 75 year old received. But nope!
But it gets better:
Even if that were true, that doesn’t justify pushing a 75 year old man to ground! Fuck that spineless mayor! Making excuses for those thug cops. Is the Buffallo City government so beholden to the BPD police union that the mayor can’t even openly condemn such a blatant abuse of power? Or is he “Law’n’Order” type, who will justify fascism no matter what?
Anyway, I had to share this blood boiling story

@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): Check out Dick Mayhew’s post from downstairs – the cops who quit the SWAT team did so not out of solidarity, but because the union told them they wouldn’t be insured for misconduct.

As an aside, it’s interesting to see how quietly Biden wrapped up the nomination. We will be spared any challenges or fights over delegates. And I admit that with the Pandemic and related events, I didn’t even pay much attention to the last primaries. I usually take a look at the numbers and exit polls.
I wonder whether other folks are also processing this differently.
I also wonder if people will view political ads any differently.
I think that Trump’s people are nervous. I’ve skipped past Trump related ads that pop up on YouTube clips that clearly would appeal to lefty types. But it’s almost as though the Trump people just wanted to buy up as much ad space as possible, to push out any competing message.

Barbara Bollier is my State Senator and I like her chances. R’s have a 6 way primary including Kobach, a right to life doctor, and a plumber known for upselling and borderline shady business practices. I live in the Kansas City suburbs, which went for Clinton. JoCo Elections sent an absentee ballot request for the primary and the general to every registered voter, while some R’s are now dubious about voting absentee because Trump said so.

LOL! Don’t you know that the new rule is that nobody in this administration needs to appear before Congress (well, any part led by Democrats)?
I really don’t understand how some things seem to reach the Supreme Court in weeks, but somehow a fundamental dispute between the other two branches of the Federal Government that is, quite literally, a Constitutional question like whether administration officials must obey a Congressional subpoena , can just percolate for years through the Federal Courts. I realize in this instance, it is just a request, but since subpoenas don’t mean anything right now, “declining requests” is a more readily available option.

NYT ran an article about reluctant Republicans who don’t want to vote for Trump. Lest we have fond memories of Dumbass Dubya, he will not vote for Trump, but won’t vote for Biden. Not as manly as his old man was in 2016, apparently. Mittens will vote for his wife, because there’s nothing as hot and sexy as being the first senator in history to convict the squatter in your own party, but subsequently deciding that writing in your wife, whose qualifications to be president extend to owning a show horse on your dime…idiot.
At least the Flakiest of Flakes (Jeff Flake) has a minimal amount of spine and will go on record to vote for Biden. As for the rest of them – fuck ’em all. Especially that dumbfuck asshole ex-“President” who spends his time plagiarizing photos through his paintings.

@Another Scott: @Amir Khalid: It was on a previous thread, but two officers anonymously reported that wasn’t true. The all dropped out after the union sent an email saying that to preserve the fiscal health of the union, they would only be paying for lawyers for the two guys already under investigation. Basically, the union guys wanted to keep their cushy jobs and salaries. It’s also a sign that the other 57 knew that the brass wanted them to bust heads and keep doing it, even if the union had bailed on them. Another sign that the police unions are supporting and funding the brutality. RICO time!
One thing I have noticed about unions (including the one I belonged to) is that they will often hire people who they were unsuccessful in preventing their firing. This creates a situation where the union is a hotbed of incompetent malcontents. Not so much at my ex-union, but it is a bad dynamic.

Dump ran directly against a lot of W’s legacy, and W couldn’t be bothered to stand up for himself in the Party. And now, he’s still a Republican before he’s an American. What a pathetic little shit.

@Jeffro: Well, it’s something people should hear more about. And I think the ad should be directed at the legitimacy of the Supreme Court as well as the administration. It’s not a complicated question. Does the administration need to respond to Congressional subpoenas or not?
They can say “it’s not our call”, and then it comes down to the House taking the country hostage by refusing to pass a budget or other “must pass” legislation until subpoenas are honored or the administration is completely unaccountable. Or they can say that, yes, the administration needs to honor the damn subpoenas because Congressional oversight is fundamental to our Constitutional system and having Congress need to rely on its most basic of powers to get anything out of the administration is just a recipe for chaos and corruption.
Recently, they’ve been choosing corruption…

@Kay: The defining feature of conservatism is selfishness.
It’s been a joke for a long time – Ayn Rand made it explicit. It was explicit in the 80s with the whole ‘Greed is Good’ thing. It’s been obvious forever in the “I got mine, fuck you” sense, or the long list of Republicans who benefited enormously from government support and then wanted to cut it away after they rode that train to success.
But it’s not just about money. It’s being self-centered in everything. The news has to be about you. If people are talking, it has to be about you. If no one is asking you about your opinions, you need to speak up. If you’re not #1 in everything you’re being oppressed and a victim, because if things were fair you’d be top dog.
That’s it. That’s the entirely philosophy. And it’s so pathological it’s even coming up NOW as we watch police beat peaceful protesters and attack black people for the crime of not being white. It doesn’t matter, because our attention should be on Republicans and they need to be praised.
Kay

For me it doesn’t matter and all and it shouldn’t matter at all in an assault charge. They can’t knock him and crack his head open for “being” a protester. The punishment for mean tweets about police is not “get you head split open”. Let’s just go back to basics here. We could check the applicable laws. Police have to follow those. The nature of their job is such that they are constantly interacting with those who break the law- that, however, does not mean they can too. It means the opposite of that.
MisterForkbeard
@Kay: I had to explain the whole “All Lives Matter” or “White Lives Matter” thing to a few people, and they really don’t want to get it. They INSIST that they be included and get all the attention.
