This is just *unreasonably* fun to watch, people: Some dude playing a wildly complex instrumental version Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" on an acoustic — https://t.co/xixRCN2NLg
I actually started laughing out loud when he did the guitar break, he's such a crazy virtuouso

I watched an interesting series of videos on the development of reggae and ska in England and it was fascinating to learn the skinheads/ punks and reggae boys were speaking about the same issues in different lingos.
The Specials came out of the late 70s Rock Against Racism movement and got their first bump in popularity after being asked to open for The Clash.

Here’s part one of the reggae series
Elizabelle
Wow. Impressive.
Omnes Omnibus
@HumboldtBlue: A lot of the punk bands played clubs where the DJs were spinning reggae records. They would do their gigs and then they and their fans would be in the club listening to reggae. The resurgence of ska came in a large part because it was easier to play than its reggae offshoot. Therefore, bands that weren’t as technically competent could manage it.

Look what FINALLY came in the mail today girl!!!
I had to call ’em up and get them to put a tracking number on it just in case USPS lost the shipment!!!

He’s very Richard Thompsonesque. They’d get a kick out of playing together, I’ll bet.

We don’t own an Amazon Echo. I’m beginning to think they put them inside stuff they sell, powertools for instance. Dug out my cordless driver, purchased from Amazon, earlier today for the first time in a couple of months. Used it, put it away, and Amazon just emailed me offers on Dewalt driver bits, impact drivers and cordless toolkits. “You know, I probably could use some more…hey, wait a minute, Bezos!”
Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not spying on you.

@Omnes Omnibus: Matches with what I remember a VH1 series on the history of Punk from the 90s talking to one of the London girl groups said.
The musician was on about how when people started playing punk they had no idea how to play their instruments, but the DJs were playing reggie and the punk kids loved it, and some learned how to play their instruments better just so they could try reggie.
And they got good enough to play Ska (which I still love).

@Omnes Omnibus:
I believe it’s the drummer from the Clash who is in the videos I watched and it was he who invited The Specials to open for them and they were even managed by Clash management for a while.
I also watched a video about the Brixton riots in 1981 and it was shockingly ripped from today’s headlines. Mind-boggling how we’ve failed to adequately deal with systemic racism and abuse in our developed nations.

Wow! Luca Stricagnoli does a tremendous cover.
I’ll add a pet peeve, sparked by the twitter comment about “some dude” doing this amazing thing: In recent years it’s become common for headline-writers to describe some achievement with “Someone <did something amazing>,” and when you click through you find out that the person is actually known and has a name. Don’t do this. Mention their profession or their background or even their name, not just “someone”, as if cool or fun things just arise naturally out of the teeming masses of humanity, as if it doesn’t matter who did it. Individuals do things, and they’re worth recognizing.

Dude named Kurt Wieser laying down Scuttle Buttin’ on Acoustic.
Uses fat strings, it’s not tinny like the other ones on Utube, flawless execution.
You need Ahhhrnold muscles in your hand to do an SRV tune right.

Yesterday in the mail, I finally got the guitar strings I ordered in March. Today, I re-strung an old hand-me down I hadn’t played in years. I finally got it to stay in tune, enough to realize I’m hella rusty.

Niiiice! And nice coinkydink–I just changed into my Led Zep tshirt before I sat down in front of my computer. Some extra cool planets must have aligned…

No, but I just learned that a lot of people are now apologizing to the couple after accusing them of co-opting the protests for their wedding.
They were married nearby and decided to join the protest after their ceremony.

@RSA: I’ve been playing on and off since I was a kid, mostly bar band stuff. My formal musical knowledge has no firm foundation — it’s more like a stack of Swiss cheese slices. So when the lockdown started and I was furloughed from my job, I decided to start from square one, and I bought a classical guitar.
My FaceTime lessons are a highlight of my boring locked-down weeks. It helps that most of the exercises in my method book sound gorgeous (when I finally learn them). Keeps me motivated.

I know this is a respite thread, but I had to share this, if just to vent a little:
Buffalo officers quit special team after 2 officers are suspended for shoving a 75-year-old protester
They were just following orders! These assholes would’ve let Himmler walk at Nuremberg! Silly, naive me, here I was hoping they were resigning out of disgust for the treatment the 75 year old received. But nope!
But it gets better:
Even if that were true, that doesn’t justify pushing a 75 year old man to ground! Fuck that spineless mayor! Making excuses for those thug cops. Is the Buffallo City government so beholden to the BPD police union that the mayor can’t even openly condemn such a blatant abuse of power? Or is he “Law’n’Order” type, who will justify fascism no matter what?
Anyway, I just had to share this blood boiling story
Mingobat (f/k/a Karen in GA)

Here’s one of my favorite protest songs, Lily Allen’s Fuck You. Written about W, just as relevant today.
Another fave is Weird Al’s One More Minute. Listening to it again, kinda missed the stalker vibe the first go round, but I’ve sung the insult verses soooo many times about people I’ve disapproved of, that I’m wishing them away. Weird Al’s originals are better than his parodies.

You should walk over and stand in front of a church, hold the diploma in both hands and move it back and forth to show it to the crowd like an Executive Order you’ve just signed, then hold it up in one hand. If anyone asks if it’s your diploma, reply, “It’s *a* diploma.”
Seriously, congratulations!
