Some good news for Doug Jones in Alabama: he’ll be facing off against Tommy Tuberville, the former football coach and hedge fund fraudster. They’re hitting Tuberville with a pretty tough ad already:
Let’s raise some more money for Doug Jones. You blew through the last target, so I raised it. We’ve raised 21 grand in the last nine days in total btw for a variety of candidates. Not bad for July.

Went up to Windemere yesterday for our Anniversary. It was to be honest terrifying. DH was driving (he just got his provisional license) In an attempt to keep on the left he is driving dangerously close to the verges and parked cars. Which is fine unless you are in the passenger seat. Particularly in the country roads where the left hand side is solid rock. He also drove the car into the gate when we drove into the driveway when we got home. I may not survive this.
ruemara
I just want him to win. I donated to him each time.
Gin & Tonic
@Litlebritdifrnt: I have traveled for weeks at a time in countries where they drive on the wrong side of the road like you do, and I don’t think I’d even attempt it.

RBG is out of the hospital.

Done. This is a man worth fighting for.
Delk
Tommy Tuberville sounds like a gay porn actor.

It is poll dropping day. This one is a doozy:
Remember, take it with a little salt & throw it into the average. But wow!
Biggest best news is apparently a solid majority of Americans have finally realized how badly Trump has screwed our economy. That was the last issue he had an advantage on over Biden.
And this just dropped as I was putting up this comment:
Wow, again! Love to see Biden at over 50%.

@Gin & Tonic: DH is determined to get this. But he has me wanting to climb into the driver’s seat. I have to say his trips on the dual carriageways were perfect, his approach to roundabouts was a bit sketchy but other than that he has done well. Now if he would just stop driving in the hedgerows he would be good.

That’s a Jeff Sessions ad against Tuberville. Is Doug Jones running any ads yet?
Citizen_X
Um, that’s a Sessions ad, not a Doug Jones ad. Was that included as some sort of joke?
R-Jud
@Litlebritdifrnt: I gave up on learning to drive not long after I moved to Brum, and I think I and everyone within the larger West Midlands Conurbation are better off for it.
Stay safe.

@Baud: That’s good news.
Alison Rose
@Citizen_X: I was gonna say…the whole “EEWWWWWW WASHINGTON COOTIES!!!!” thing is a GOPer tactic, not a Democratic one.
OzarkHillbilly
@SiubhanDuinne: Cracked me up to think Doug Jones was recycling Jeff Sessions ads.
Jeffro
I mentioned earlier that the Alabama Democratic Party (all three members ;) was really smacking the heck out of Tuberville on Twitter…truly, this could be an election season for the ages, folks! GO LONG ON POPCORN!!
WereBear
@Litlebritdifrnt: Even the thought of roundabouts gives me hives!

@Citizen_X: we could be doomed, with all that truth about Tuberville and they STILL chose him over the malignant elf. Although its possible that they may find that Jones (and his non-elfin features) more of a palatable choice…
Litlebritdifrnt
@R-Jud: Once DH gets his scooter I think he will give up on the car but it is good to indulge him for right now.

No *wonder* Trump likes him. You know, when Trump ran a corporation, he raised a bunch of money; any good businessman could have hired someone who understood casinos and the hospitality business (see what I did there? :-) ) and made some bank, for him and the investors. Instead, he retired notes on the casinos that he was on the hook for: big bucks for Donny Boy! Then, he brought in *more* casinos, to the same corporation, and paid off his personal notes on those, too. And then, for some strange reason, with all that debt, the casinos never made any actual money. But Donny Boy did! He could pay himself big consulting fees, and a salary as CEO, and when he went bankrupt, he got to give himself a bonus for shepherding the company through such difficult times.
Tuberville wasn’t an investor, but was invited to be a full partner – more than being on a corporate board – that was fraudulent. You know, something about that… someone with no experience, getting involved with a firm where investigations (and in this case, *convictions*!) were obtained… wasn’t someone squawking about how *horrible* that is, someone who’s a bit famous getting big bucks, without any actual expertise, just a famous name?
I don’t call Republicans hypocritical, because they’re not. They are pure propagandists; you can’t trust them on anything, especially not if they take an oath promising “impartial justice”.

@WereBear: Roundabouts are a thing, but they make sense when you think about it. There is a roundabout in Blackburn that has about five lanes and four stops lights on it. If I never go there again it will be too soon.

@Gin & Tonic: Years back, within about a three week period, I drove a right hand car on the right side, a left hand car on the left side, and a left hand car on the right side. Without accidents :)

I’m hoping that the veteran ratfuckers of the “Lincoln Project” will put in an appearance down in Alabama.

Sorry if this has already been posted — I haven’t been able to do much board reading today.
The Alabama Democrats twitter is bringing its A-game. Some of these things won’t mean much to people who don’t follow college football, but you’ll get the spirit.

@Litlebritdifrnt: My first experience driving on the left side was in Scotland, on one of those quaint islands where the roads are one lane and one car has to pull off to the side when two meet.
I destroyed two hubcaps staying too far left on the roads, and must have freaked out other drivers by pulling off to the right (wrong) side.
Still, no real harm.

And he lost to Vanderbilt.
No talent coach Tommy took the mighty Auburn team against wimpy, liberal arts serving Vanderbilt and lost.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Litlebritdifrnt: Uh, happy anniversary? Glad you survived!
@dr. luba: My husband and I went to Scotland a couple of years ago and I agreed we’d rent a car on the condition I not have to drive, as my entire experience of left-side-driving countries was a (non-driving) weekend in London 20 years ago. The rental place put me on the agreement anyway. We sat down in the car and the first thing M. Colette said was, “Oh. It’s a stick (shift).” So I got in the driver’s seat, with everything the the wrong way about, and drove 5 hours straight, including freeways, roundabouts, and mountain roads where it started f*ing snowing, without ever having been in a vehicle let alone driven one on the left. By the time we got to Fort William I was shaking all over. Next day after a bit of practice le monsieur started driving again, but like Litlebrit I found I couldn’t stand being so close to the verge as a passenger because he couldn’t bring himself to drive close enough to the center line. He only scraped the hubcap hard once – but it was in a roundabout, and he stopped. Yikes. I ended up doing most of the driving on that trip as the lesser of two terrors.
Scotland, however, is fantastic! Can’t wait to go back.

@Litlebritdifrnt: The only time I tried driving in Tokyo I did so at 5 a.m., picked up a van and a helper at the barracks and drove to my apartment, picked up the shelving units I was getting rid of, drove back to the barracks and left them outside the elevator on different floors (and folks quickly snapped them up), then drove up the hill to return the van. I wasn’t about to try driving in regular Tokyo traffic. Even if I was accustomed to right-hand drive, there’s no place to park in Tokyo, and the trains are a lot quicker.
TS (the original)
@Litlebritdifrnt: Coming from Australia we always drive left – but the UK hedgerows had me utterly scared – especially the one lane ones in the Wales countryside – where everyone else appeared to drive at speed straight towards me.
Ryan
He lost to fucking Vanderbilt!
