This is AOC’s follow up to Ted Yoho’s non-apology yesterday. I’m not going to excerpt it or quote it, because watch the whole thing, it’s worth it. Here’s a transcript if you can’t watch the video.

Remarkable response to a non-apology
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
Not an AOC fan, but as she matures and gains knowledge and discipline like this, I can become one.

I saw this earlier today and it was extraordinary. As I started to write this I was watching Stacy Abrams being interviewed by Rachel and was thinking that there are a number of remarkably talented women in the democratic party right now.

There’s been a leak of Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf’s speech to the federal officers being deployed to Chicago:
Soldiers, no poor sap ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by being all that he can be. Damn the torpedoes, or give me death! Eternal vigilance is the price of duty. And, to the victors go the spoils. So remember: you are the best of the best of the few and the proud. So ask not what your country can do for you, only regret that you have but one life to live! The war against the violent leftists will be won! Fellow Patriots, let the first shot be fired! Search out the Demonrats and frag ’em all!

I’ve been looking forward to seeing this one. I did watch Yoho’s non-apology. It was. Very short. And ridiculous.
C-Span has the whole thing up. Great alternative programming to der Trump.
HumboldtBlue
She wasn’t finished, she threw in some hip-hop hype music on her way to work this morning in retweeting a supporters tweet.

I’d also like to add my support for AOC. Yoho is a total prick and he didn’t mean his “apology” at all
SmallAxe
Pure brilliance and without notes. Amazing.
Alison Rose
Yeah, I am so done with men acting like “I have female family members” is some sort of defense against being called sexist. It’s their version of the Black friend. (Although I’d bet a lot of them also use that line whenever they get called out for racism.)

If Yoohoo was a baby seal and AOC the hunter with a club, there would just be a puddle where the baby seal used to be.
Brutally honest.

Sarah Cooper is back with cognitive test results.
Villago Delenda Est
She is so classy, so brilliant an orator, so filled with emotion without going all Jimmy Swaggart on us.
I want to bear her children.
Jay
Gaslight Nation indeed.

@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): I’ve said it before. Chad Wolf is an Odilo Globočnick wannabee.
Elizabelle
@Odie Hugh Manatee: Uggh. Horrible example. Save the baby seals.
Emma
*snaps x10000000000* I have no idea if Yoho had the guts to be in the audience for that, but I choose to believe that he was what she was looking at. Edit: also, are there any Pirates of the Caribbean satires of Yoho? There’s got to be a way to do a clever “Yoho, Yoho, something-that-fits-the-rhythm”
Wyatt Salamanca
AOC beautifully wiped the floor with Ted Pukestain Yoho.

Baby Seals? (Not the best metaphor) Portland? Every now and then I’d like to see post comments stay on topic for a little while. This was a good one to talk about.
I’ve been impressed with AOC from the start, other than that swerve to endorse primary candidates that weren’t (IMHO) the best choices for their districts. She’s a hell of a speaker.
Ken
@Emma: “Yoho, Yoho, it’s off to work we go”? Fiddle it to refer to his upcoming retirement from Congress.
Elizabelle
Just watched it. AOC is an amazing speaker. No verbal tics. Straightforward. Eloquent. Doing this for the little girls and no longer little girls in her orbit.
Proud of her.
Mentions she is 2 years younger than Yoho’s younger daughter. Thwack.
BellyCat
When a politician can give a person chills listening to them, they are worth keeping an eye on — especially when they are only 30 years old. Stunning response by AOC.
Emma
@Ken: Haha, not bad! Although it’s not mean enough for my taste XD
Wyatt Salamanca
@Elizabelle:
That specific reference by AOC was the coup de grace for me. Also, I truly appreciate your use of “thwack”. It makes for very nice imagery.
HumboldtBlue
@BellyCat:
Obama 2004.
Ayanna Pressley is raising her voice as well and Symone Sanders is getting ready to be internationally known as Biden’s campaign keeps rolling along. That’s just off the top of my head.
oldster
I’m very impressed by AOC.
She really exemplifies the old saying that courage isn’t a lack of fear, but doing what you know is right, even when you’re afraid.
There are steelier people, less emotional people, more sarcastic people, people who look like nothing hurts them, and they can be impressive in their own way. Obama certainly showed less emotion, for instance.
But AOC is more relatable, exactly because she shows you that it hurts. But she still says what she needs to say. She lets her passion and her sense of justice carry her through the pain.
HumboldtBlue
@oldster:
Well said.
On a far shittier note, the President of the United States sat down for an interview with Dave Portnoy.
This is Dave Portnoy (standing)
He started the online sports site Barstool sports.
I am unclear why or how this interview took place and its purpose could not be a greater mystery.
Tony Gerace
@skerry: Wow, she is great. Intelligence, integrity and guts. I hope she runs for president in a few years when she’s 35. She’ll have my vote.
Salty Sam
There have been so many “performative” speeches made on the floor of Congress- you can watch them and deduce who the intended audience is and what the coded message is embedded in the speech. Yoho’s “apology” was one of those.
But AOC’s takedown today was just her speaking her brilliant shining truth to ALL misogynist assholes everywhere. She is a force to be reckoned with, and I look forward to following her political career as she grows into it.
stinger
At 6:00 in, I was giving her a one-person standing ovation in my living room. And stayed standing to the end. That was GREAT.
Benw
Ted Yoho, the man who caused the speech that made everyone realize that AOC was a legit prez candidate. Thanks, Ted Yoho!
Odie Hugh Manatee
@Elizabelle:
I wanted to use something that conservatives can relate to. ;)
Neldob
Right on AOC! guess it was nut cuttin time as LBJ used to say. A truck just drove by with Yolos.
laura
To end with gratitude for that shite-bag elevated an already powerful speech. That was an amazing and powerful lesson in truth and power. She’s one to keep an eye on.
James E Powell
@Villago Delenda Est:
I’m with you. How many other up & coming Democrats do we have who are her equal. Looking forward to her future.
azlib
Brilliant oratory. I do not agree with all her policy positions, but she is smart and capable and is comfortable in her own skin. What a takedown!
Omnes Omnibus
Was it Pierce who said that watching her now is like watching Jordan at North Carolina? We all have to remember she is still at the beginning of her career. She should get even better.
DaveInOz
I hadn’t had a chance to watch the full thing until today. That was a very impressive speech. I’ve been impressed with AOC since she arrived in congress. She’s going to be a very big presence in the Democratic Party in the years to come, I think.
