Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Republicans in disarray!

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Ordered two bumper stickers from them last night and just mailed my first contribution. I’m 65 years old and this is without a doubt the most important election of my lifetime. Will be looking to do much more to dislodge Putin’s flabby puppet.

Today’s fundraising email from Adam Schiff:

When Barack Obama picked Joe Biden as VP in 2008, he hit a home run. Well, Joe Biden picking Kamala Harris is a grand slam.

Lots of praise for Kamala, battle for the soul of our nation, then asks to contribution to be split 50/50.

Biden Harris sounds like a good name for a 100 percent Ivy League white shoe law firm, which never take Trump as a client.

Has Mike Pence ever in his life looked as happy as Kamala Harris looks most of the time? (The rest of the time Harris looks determined.)

@Mary G: In countering Trump BS and gaslighting Harris can be a combination of pile driver, steam roller, and blast furnace, and implacable vice. When he gets in the mood Biden can do a lot of that too.

So, at least will be some gratifying moments when those two go to work on Trumpster sneers and smears, lies, nonsense and generalized disinformation.

    @Emily68:

I really like Harris.  I supported her in the primary, and when she dropped out I hoped she’d join Biden’s ticket.

For some reason she reminds me of Pokey (Gumby, the animated clay character’s friend) but in a nice way.  It’ll be great to have someone competent, tough, smart and funny as VP.

@Emily68: That’s one of the things I like about the whole ticket–they look genuinely happy, and likely have a genuine sense of humor. There’s just . . . JOY there, not smug satisfaction, not sneering contempt, but joy and determination.

Second here from a fellow NC native.

We’re going to get both bumper-stickers AND a yard-sign – the latter, however raises the practical matter that as was the case four years ago, if we leave them out overnight, local TrumpAssHoles will likely steal them and discard them.   An alternative notion I’ve mulled over, but not really come up with a practical solution to implement, is if there was some way I could embed an ink-filled membrane around the edges and supports of a yard sign that I would leave out at night, which would spill (not explode, just spill) loads of harmless but indelible ink that isn’t washable all over the perp’s hands and arms.  Something that they could only effectively rid themselves of by the natural process of skin wear and replacement.  I have locations in my yard where though what the sign is (Biden-Harris) would still be obvious at night, yet dark enough that the ink enhanced membrane wouldn’t be visible until too late until the perp has marked themselves.  What exactly could they complain / explain to police about, since they were trespassing to steal something?

I just find myself thinking, “man, that’s a sign of someone who does not have enough ACTUAL PROBLEMS in their lives”.

Does anyone have a link, btw, to that LGM meme with the vapid white kids lying in bed saying something like, “my vote is embued with the spirits of love, laughter and generosity – it can’t be given away to just anybody”? It just so perfectly embodies my scorn for that kind of thinking, and I always mean to capture it when I see it over there…
