Site Update: Democratic Convention

FacebookTweetEmail

Just a quick housekeeping note to say that I added a new section in the sidebar on the right: Democratic Convention 2020

It is just above the Recent Comments.

If you know of a good site for watching the convention, chime in.  Here’s what’s on there so far.

Simplified Convention Schedule
Official DNC Schedule
Official Convention Stream
YouTube (with Trump ads)
Crooked Media Includes Pre-Show
C-SPAN

How to Watch (scroll for instructions): TV, Phones, Apple TV, Fire, Roku, Prime

The final link above goes to the DNC site, but if you scroll down just a little bit there are instructions for watching on all sorts of devices.

The simplified schedule at the top is the one from Cheryl’s thread this morning.

Chime in if you would like any of those links in the hamburger menu on mobile.

*****

I saw in an earlier thread that Trump did a huge ad buy with a huge banner on YouTube, and there will apparently be a non-skippable Tump ad on Hulu.  Personally, I won’t be using either site while his advertising is up.

Seventeen rising Democratic stars will together give the keynote address at the party’s convention on Tuesday, the Democratic National Convention Committee said Sunday.

The keynote spot is generally given to one emerging leader in the party — Barack Obama famously had the slot in 2004, when he was a U.S. Senate candidate from Illinois — but with the virtual convention proceedings limited to two hours each day, officials decided to showcase more people.

The 17 Democrats will jointly give a single speech on Tuesday night’s theme, “Leadership Matters.”

Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia House of Representatives minority leader and gubernatorial candidate, is perhaps the best known politician in the group. At 46, she’s also the oldest.

This is from CNN, but the same story is basically all over the place.  Found when I googled “tuesday stacey abrams convention”.

@different-church-lady: strangely, it’s mostly in the really hot parts of the country.  As a teacher I can tell you it makes some sense in that you can break the semester at Christmas instead of late January.  The week before Christmas break is always a waste when you aren’t doing final exams.  And it is hard to come back in January after break just to do review and final exams.

    August 16, 2020 at 11:12 pm

    ObOpenThread – Meanwhile, RollCall:

If coronavirus relief talks are at a stalemate, as top administration officials and Democrats said this week, it may be a divided Senate GOP that set the first dominoes tumbling.

And it may take the threat of a partial government shutdown next month to get things back on track.

The next deadline to force action is Sept. 30, when Congress has to pass a continuing resolution to keep federal agencies operating at least through the November elections. Combining stopgap funds and pandemic relief into one bill could be a less painful vote for Republicans than separate votes on each.

“I think it would be better for Republicans, instead of taking two expensive votes, to take one expensive vote and make it a little more convoluted with the [continuing resolution],” said a GOP lobbyist who asked for anonymity in order to speak candidly. “Do a bunch of COVID stuff on a CR and call it a day.”

Much Bravery, Such Leadership, etc., etc.

    Cheers,
