I just wanted to thank you all for helping David’s niece and her family. That was very decent and generous of you, and not only did you help them, but you helped me, because this has been such a shitty couple of years that seeing decency and generosity was such a nice respite from all the ugly.

By the time I got around to putting money in the hat – the whole thing was done and over with! Great group of people – I’m glad to be part of this community for the last decade or so.
thruppence
Glad that I got up early so that I could help contribute.

It made my day to help them out in a small way. Everything is so fucked up right now and I’ve been fortunate through all this. It feels good to give back to a very good cause. And fuck cancer.

We lost Chadwick. With Claire we say no more.

It’s not over, you can still give if you wish.

What a world. Even Rick Steves has gone to the dark side for the local PBS pledge drive:

John, this would not have been possible without the wonderful community you have fostered at this nearly top 10,000 political blog. Thank you too.

It’s not over.

@debbie: That’s a repeat; it was on several times over the August fundraising.
OTOH, Mr. Rogers is on at 8 (ET) on ‘GBH.

@debbie: Hey, at least he’s anti.

Joe Kennedy III is a tool. His campaign ran a full page ad in Sunday’s Worcester Telegram highlighting that he “shows up” for the city – while misspelling its name, which was printed extra large. Will he show up for Worchester instead. Laughs all around.

@debbie: Not here. We are airing a special about Fred Rogers. Filmmaker Morgan Neville examines the life and legacy of Fred Rogers, the beloved host of the popular children’s TV show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.

You’re welcome. Even jackals have hearts. And souls.

@Feathers: This is not even noteworthy. English spelling is devolving to the practices of Chaucer’s time.

Well, JC, you created this community, so thank YOU.

@Chris Wolf: $715 more and we will be at an even 25,000.

I’ve only just seen this, but I’ve dropped a coin in the cup. All good wishes to the family.

@debbie:
Wow, just wow.
Anbd it was privilege to be able to help in a small way in a world where some kindness goes a long way.

You’re the one who built a place that functions on decency and generosity ( most of the time.)

It looks like a big giving day all around. Just monitored the ActBlue donation counter for 10 minutes: the contribution rate was $4.5M/hour. I think August will be another record setting month for them. I’m hoping this means most D candidates & election groups will have all the funds that they need this cycle.
One example of Ds having great funding this year:
I’m putting a small bet down that the Texas Ds flip the state house in Nov.

You bet. Cole, you have created a community that I am happy, privileged and proud to feel a small part of. I needed an act of kindness to perform, and Mayhew and his family is as valuable a part of this community as there is here.

While we’re being sappy and shit, Cole, thanks for still running this place. I can’t remember when my first visit was, sometime early aughts.
It has been an island of sanity in an increasingly alarming sea of, ah, exceptionalism.

Jackals always step up. They kicked in for little Sammy too, as well as all the Democrats on Act Blue. Appreciation to all the generous hearts here, because it keeps us going to see good manifest in the world.
rikyrah
Lot of good people on this blog, Cole. Starting with you??

I was late to the gifting party, but gave anyway. I was delighted to see the B-J response to Claire and her folks.
Made me proud to think I’m part of the Jackal herd.
Thanks John, for creating this world separate from the other world!

@Marcopolo: I just ran through the recent DougJ ActBlue posts and hit several of the thermometers, so I guess I was part of that! Glad to hear it’s going so well.
And to John Cole, your place here has done well on both the personal scale and the political scale today. Be proud.
mvr
@Marcopolo: Can you link the counter of which you speak. I’m too lazy to Google for it. Thanks!
And Cole you helped keep me sane in the early to mid oughts when I thought very few people realized just how insane our Iraq misadventure was.
Marcopolo
@mvr: The counter is on the ActBlue homepage. I assume donations are so fast and furious right now because every candidate & their followers are spamming end of the month giving. As of midnight west coast time I suspect it will slow down quite a bit.
mvr
@Marcopolo: I kicked in end of month contributions to half a dozen myself. But I didn’t see the counter. Thanks!

As much as the stuff we see daily makes me want to go Wolverine on too many people, there are also moments like this.

Yup yup yup to all of the above. Big thanks to the blogfather for spawning and supporting such a great community. All y’all jackals are the best!

Late to the thread, but I wanted to add that being able to help Claire and her family also helped me. And seeing the outpouring of support from this wonderful group of jackals canceled out a lot of the ugliness I’ve been drowning in lately. You’ve created a damn fine community here, John.
