Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

No Justins, No Peace

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Second rate reporter says what?

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

DeSantis transforms Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

My favorite Labor Day song

Let’s raise some money for Democrats today. I’m going with three suggestions from readers in the Cheyenne to Tennessee thread.

The first is a tough race. Abby Broyles for Senate in Oklahoma. Locals say she’s the best candidate Democrats have had in years so let’s show some support.

Abby Broyles, Oklahoma Senate

The next two are interesting House races. Iowa-2 is a race currently held by a retiring Democrat so it’s an open seat that Cook lists as toss-up. Dems have a strong candidate in Rita Hart and this is very winnable. The Montana At Large seat is also open (held by a retiring Republican) and is listed as Leans Republican, which means it’s close. Dems have a great candidate in Kathleen Williams, a bit of a fan favorite in the comments.

Montana first. Payoff is bigger if there is a 269-269 tie in the EC. Win the seat and win the whole state’s vote.

4:15 Eastern time. Unfortunately, it looks to be a Facebook exclusive.

Please join the AFL-CIO for a Labor Day conversation with Vice President Joe Biden. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka will moderate the discussion and questions will be asked by rank and file union members across the country.

Oh, and here’s the quote on that tweet for anyone who doesn’t want to click.

“Less than two months to go before Election Day, and my local paper (support local journalism, no joke, it’s important) has run a hit piece on me and my trashy mouth.

    Y’all wanna see screenshots?”

then, at the end, she recorded herself reading the article out loud.

The retired Republican for the open House seat in Montana is the carpetbagger Gianforte. He decided he knows more about Montana than the people who have lived there for generations. I really don’t understand how he’s ahead. But Montana can be full of surprises. We all thought Tester was a dead man walking in 2018 and he was re-elected. So I never assume Montana is hopeless.

    @Yutsano:

Gianforte. Is that the guy who punched out a reporter a couple of years ago?

Great song, Doug! Love it. Got me going on a sleepy Labor Day morning. I am pretty sure that I saw these guys (The Waco Brothers) in a bar in Minneapolis in the 1995-97 timeframe. Of course, most of that time was a cannabis and alcohol-fueled blur. Anyway, I may throw Rita Hart some money, as it seems like a winnable seat. I gave J.D. Scholten in Iowa-4 because I know his Mom but I am afraid he is going to get his butt kicked. Great, smart guy. I hope he makes a splash on the national stage.

Current MT-AL incumbent and journalist-assaulter Gianforte is running for Governor, so it’s an open seat. Thuglican candidate Matt Rosendale is the current State Auditor and served 6 years in the state leg. He is a carpetbagger (born in Baltimore in 1960, moved to MT in [it appears] 2002), but so is Williams (born in CA, moved to MT in 1995), who also served in the state leg. Just FYI.

@BethanyAnne: I have no idea what the odds are in that race, but I put her on my list to get a campaign contribution! I like her attitude!

@Yutsano: The Dem condidate for Gov in MT, Mike Cooney, has been sending (or, his staff has been) some of the lamest fundraising emails. I don’t even live in MT, have never lived in MT, and the first bunch of emails I received during the PRIMARY had no info about the candidate, just PANIC fundraising appeals. I sure hope the rest of his campaign is better than his email outreach.

Can we PLEASE keep raising for downballot races? Maybe every time you post a fundraising thread, make sure that there’s at least one for raising money for state legislators in a state where the Dems have the chance to make some gains?
