Shit is raining down here in Lesser Brexitania where the Tory Government’s tame science-bro mouthpieces have been telling journalists that Britain is “heading in the wrong direction” where Covid-19 infections are concerned. “What? Really? Oh no, dudes, you don’t say? Wow, I’m like, super-shocked.” Meanwhile the walking ball-gag we have as our Health Minister, Matt “The Wrong Type of Twat” Hancock, along with various other over-promoted Ministerial yes-men, has been making the rounds to insist that surging infection rates are entirely the fault of the General Bloody Public, who seem to have wilfully disregarded the Government’s clear instructions not to get infected while obediently flocking to pubs, bars, restaurants, schools, public transport, airports, beaches, brothels and everywhere else the Government told them it was their patriotic duty to go in large numbers. The cheek of those plebs. Deliberately conspiring with the dirty, foreign virus to make the Tory Party look bad by getting sick and causing the privately operated/publicly funded “Test and Trace” scheme to go into meltdown by expecting it to be capable of actually testing and tracing large numbers of people when, as we all know, its real job was to funnel hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayer’s money into the bank accounts of Tory Party donors.
Oh, and speaking of Tory donors apparently there’s a story out that one of the major ones was more or less funnelling cash from Uncle Vlad directly into Party funds, and Flobalob Johnson himself is getting heat for spending a long weekend in Perugia, Italy, where he definitely did not visit his good chum and former security risk (Lord) Yevgeny Lebedev at his castle and definitely didn’t discuss the breaking of international law with other representatives of Uncle Vlad. Oh, and there’s absolutely no truth to the suggestion that Tony Blair was also in the area at the same time, and if he was it was to heal the sick and talk to the animals or something equally saintly.
Honestly. These people are so exhausting. Their vileness and mendacity leaves you as breathless as a smotherer’s pillow.

No good with rants (although I would point out that the virus is surging across Europe, even in countries that don’t have Boris Johnson as PM and in some which seemed to have handled it well initially.)
Having said that, Boris and his low quality Cabinet (because all the Tories with more than 2 brain cells to rub together were Remainers and they’ve been frozen out) were focussed on Brexit and ignored COVID-19 until it was too late, presumably on the basis that we had left the EU so the virus would stop at Calais. Then had a fling with Herd Immunity, before someone pointed out that the rising death toll (the worse per capita of anywhere in Europe and still among the top 5 globally) made the government look bad, so there was some AmDram theatrics. Then our Boris got the disease (it was announced he had tested positive on 27 March but I bet he had symptoms before then), there was panic, it’s actually got the temerity to infect people like us and we had the national lockdown!
Boris recovers, and is initially very grateful but, he’s not one to dwell on the past, so after the passage of some time, he forgets the lesson he had learned and gives in to his natural instincts to project sunny optimism and give his donors what they want, the re-opening of businesses so they can start making loads of money again, when the R number was still hovering at about 1. Although other countries opened up bars and restaurants, only the UK, as far as I know, actually gave people an incentive to go into them (because those poor people in the hospitality industry like Tim Martin, of Weatherspoons, who gave zillions to the Brexit campaign were suffering) and here we are with cases surging!
Now, yesterdays figures from the UK. There were 3899 new cases, this figure is probably low due to the usual weekend closures of admin offices etc. 3279 of the new cases were in England, 176 in Northern Ireland, 199 in Wales and 245 in Scotland.
There were 18 new deaths, all in England.
233,199 tests were processed on Friday, 18 September out of a capacity of 253,521. On the same date, 205 people were admitted to hospital in England and 41 in Wales. (no figures currently available for the other 2 nations). As of yesterday there were 1141 people in hospital in England, almost double what it had been 10n days previously and 142 on ventilators.
Government reaction – Patrick Vallance, Government Chief Scientific Advisor saying that the number of cases is doubling roughly every 7 days. BoJo expected to announce new restrictions in England tomorrow, Nicola Sturgeon indicating that the same is likely to happen in Scotland shortly. Meanwhile, in Wales 4 new areas, Newport, Bridgend, Merthyr and Blaenau Gwent are going into local lockdowns.
