Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Stand up, dammit!

When we show up, we win.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

“Alexa, change the president.”

Reality always gets a vote in the end.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

It looks like Trump will be coughing on everyone in the White House the next few days and possibly giving many of them COVID. If it’s people like Jared and Ivanka, that’s funny to me. If it’s Secret Service and other staff…well, not so much.

In any case, a rout may be on so I think it’s a good idea to go big on the House and also on some Senate races that are flying under the radar but could be winnable if the levee breaks. You can see everyone we are supporting here. I’ll add a House Tier 2 pretty soon too of seats that are listed as Lean R.

Good morning folks. Today is the first day for voting in Ohio:

Long line here at the Franklin County (Columbus) Ohio Bd of Elections. Around the front, back of building and around HomeBuys store next to it pic.twitter.com/SNmROEa2qZ— Jo Ingles (@joingles) October 6, 2020

Any OH jackals trying to vote today?

According to Michael McDonald @ the US Elections Project as of this morning over 4 million folks have already voted (~3% of the total 2016 vote). That’s about 50x the number who had voted 4 weeks before the 2016 election. VA, WI, and SD are already at over 16% of their total 2020 vote. Around 13.5% of the 2020 early vote is voters who did not vote in 2016. About 16% of the 2020 AA early vote is voters who did not vote in 2016. These are excellent numbers.

More than 4 million Americans have already voted, suggesting record turnout

Americans are rushing to cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 3 election at an unprecedented pace, early voting numbers show, indicating a possible record turnout for the showdown between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

With four weeks to go before Election Day, more than 4 million Americans already have voted, more than 50 times the 75,000 at this time in 2016, according to the United States Elections Project, which compiles early voting data.

The shift has been driven by an expansion of early and mail-in voting in many states as a safe way to cast a ballot during the coronavirus pandemic and an eagerness to weigh in on the political future of Trump, said Michael McDonald of the University of Florida, who administers the project.

“We’ve never seen this many people voting so far ahead of an election,” McDonald said. “People cast their ballots when they make up their minds, and we know that many people made up their minds long ago and already have a judgment about Trump.”

The early surge has led McDonald to predict a record turnout of about 150 million, representing 65% of eligible voters, the highest rate since 1908.

    It’s happening.

No one deserves to have Kellyanne Conway for a mom:

    From Raw Story:

In a video that Claudia Conway posted on her TikTok account, Kellyanne can be seen berating her daughter over her past TikTok videos in which she denounced President Donald Trump for being reckless about the disease.

“You’ve caused so much disruption,” Conway tells her daughter. “You’ve lied about your own f*cking mother, about COVID!”
“No, mom, it’s how I interpreted it,” she said.
“Interpreted it?” Conway asked, before she then noticed that her daughter was filming her, at which point she grabbed her phone.

In a tweet shortly after the video posted, Conway chided reporters on Twitter for covering her daughter’s TikTok videos.

“My daughter, Claudia, is beautiful & brilliant,” Conway wrote. “She has access to top doctors and health care and lives comfortably. Like all of you, she speculates on social media. Yet she’s 15. You are adults. We have COVID, but it’s clear who’s really sick.”

Yes, I brought home COVID from the Rose Garden after not wearing a mask like you asked me to, and now we’re both sick — but you are a bad girl for saying so in public.

Kellyanne has three other children.  I hope they are alright.

One last post here before I go do things in the real world:

This is encouraging. As a resident of a state w/out one, it’s nice to see functioning state D parties.

Texas House Democratic group set a fundraising record in the first six months of 2020. It doubled that total in three months.

The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee has raised over $3.6 million in just under three months, a massive cash infusion as the party pushes to take control of the lower chamber for the first time since 2002.

The $3.6 million haul, which came between July 1 and Sept. 24, is more than double the $1.6 million that the committee raised in the first six months of the year. That in itself was a committee record at the time, exceeding its total fundraising for the entire 2018 election cycle.

they mailed out the ballots on the earliest morning of the 24th. It took a week to arrive and I waited till the weekend to research and fill out. My calculation is I have plenty of time to fix any issues if there is a problem, but I am monitoring online in case they are slow to notify me.

If you are voting in Ohio, make sure you vote for a progressive majority on the State Supreme Court vote for: Jennifer Brunner & John O’Donnell below

    See
Ohio’s nonpartisan Supreme Court elections are crucial for correcting this injustice & thwarting GOP gerrymandering after 2020. If Dems Jennifer Brunner & John O’Donnell beat two GOP incumbents in November, Dems would gain a 4-3 majority on the court & could protect voting rights
