Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“But what about the lurkers?”

No one could have predicted…

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Everybody saw this coming.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Consistently wrong since 2002

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

Shut up, hissy kitty!

I realized that with the SCOTUS hearings today, it probably makes more sense to do more Senate stuff today. Here’s some races I like:

Barbara Bollier, Kansas Senate

Goal Thermometer

Mike Espy, Mississippi Senate

Goal Thermometer

Alan Gross, Alaska Senate

Goal Thermometer

Raphael Warnock, Georgia Senate (special election)

Goal Thermometer

You can see all our candidates here.

Update. Adding Gary Peters because he’s in a tough race and told a heartbreaking story about access to reproductive rights. He’s a great Senator

Gary Peters, Michigan

I agree about Peters. He is ahead, but it’s not a comfortable lead by any means. The Koch bros and the usual gamut of RWNJ organizations are bombarding TV with negative ads — they have clearly targeted this one.

@JPL:  I put a link to Gary Peters in the election Action thread yesterday after RalfW included the tweet below in that thread.  Tweet from Chris Murphy but retweeted by Brian Schatz.

Michigan is the firewall.  And it’s a tight race for Senate.
    Peters 47
    James 44
But our pal Gary Peters is in quarantine bc he sat next to Ron Johnson last week. So McConnell placed $9M in ads. Pence in town next week. Can we raise $150K for Gary today? https://t.co/jkrigU3UoH — Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT) October 11, 2020

We raised $895 for him on BJ yesterday, but I agree that’s an important race.  Just my opinion – DougJ is the fundraising guru!  We hit $5,000 for him and the original goal was 2,500.  Maybe we can double it again.  :-)

The thing about some of these polls regarding Peters is that they don’t seem to be pushing so-called undecided voters.  It’s unusual for the combined sample being polled to add up to less than 90% of voters this close to the election.  My only point is that polling data that adds up to more than 87% of voters (which is what the latest super close NYT poll did) seems to be more favorable to Peters.  I kicked in some additional scratch for him nonetheless.

They might be pushing. The response is listed as “don’t know/refused” rather than undecided

And they report that they are 97% either almost certain (63%) or very likely (24%) to vote or already voted (10%). I submit that people who have decided that they will vote know for whom they are going to vote. They might not want to tell a stranger on the phone.

    Today’s Senate Polls
We haven’t had any polling done in the North Carolina Senate race after it was revealed that Cal Cunningham had an affair (which is a bit surprising since PPP is located in Raleigh, NC, and polling that race is a home game for PPP). Still, if Theresa Greenfield can beat Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), that could make up for not flipping North Carolina. (V)

State Democrat D % Republican R % Start End Pollster

Iowa Theresa Greenfield 47% Joni Ernst* 43% Oct 06 Oct 09 YouGov

Michigan Gary Peters* 47% John James 44% Oct 06 Oct 09 YouGov
