This weekend, march with us from anywhere. Over 380 sister marches have been organized across all 50 states, including socially distanced in-person and virtual events.

— Women's March – Text WOMENSWAVE to 44310 (@womensmarch) October 13, 2020
I saw a story in the Washington Post about this some time ago, but there hasn’t been anything on the twitter feeds I read, and there is so much news every day these days! Anybody planning on attending one of these events, virtually or IRL?
The Washington Post, yesterday — “Women’s March will bring thousands of marchers to D.C. and cities nationwide this weekend”:
The Women’s March will return to the nation’s capital and to hundreds of cities across the country on Saturday, drawing thousands of people to the streets in the middle of a pandemic to protest the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett and to urge Americans to vote President Trump out of office.
In Washington, D.C., organizers expect between 6,000 and 10,000 people to gather on Freedom Plaza for a midday rally focused on voting rights and calling on Congress to suspend the Supreme Court confirmation process, according to a permit issued by the National Park Service on Wednesday. After the rally, participants will march to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol…
Saturday’s Women’s March in D.C. is expected to be one of at least 415 marches and events taking place in person and virtually in cities across the country, O’Leary Carmona said. That’s significantly fewer marches than the first Women’s March in 2017, when millions of people flooded the streets in about 700 marches across the country in a historic demonstration protesting Trump’s inauguration.
But O’Leary Carmona said organizers aim to reach the same number of marches as they did in 2018, when about 500 events were planned nationwide. Among the events planned for Saturday are golf-cart processions, car caravans and a march that will begin at Ginsburg’s college dorm at Cornell University.
Unlike during past years’ marches in the nation’s capital, Women’s March leaders are hoping for a relatively smaller crowd in the District because of social distancing concerns. They are discouraging participants from traveling to D.C. from states that are on the self-quarantine list and are not involved in organizing any buses from other cities. Instead, they encourage supporters to attend local marches or to get involved with its “text-a-thon” efforts, O’Leary Carmona said…

I don’t seem to hear much about R activity, beyond the occasional poorly organised boat parade. Are they that disheartened, or are they just keeping their doings on the QT?
FelonyGovt
I don’t know if anyone has posted this Lincoln Project ad, “Vote for her”, but it seemed apposite in a discussion of women’s marches. It’s excellent, made me cry (and was a strong reminder of Trump’s absolutely appalling and inexcusable treatment of women).
Elizabelle
Richmond VA is having one, but I will be doing a “no touch” lit drop instead. It does not seem to me that these marches were well publicized, at all.
LuciaMia
@Amir Khalid: Curious about that too. Lots of online events like the ‘Princess Bride’ and ‘Spinal Tap’ reunions to help raise funds. Nothing similar on the R side. Maybe when you got big-time sugar daddies like Adelson you dont worry about this small stuff.

@Amir Khalid:
I’ve seen the occasional Trump and Back to Blue rallies in my area. They usually draw several dozen to a hundred or so attendees. They of course act as obnoxious as possible. There was one a few weeks ago in a busy intersection of my town. Near constant honking in what I assume was support for the Trumpists.
Granted, it was on a Sunday and there was an interstate nearby. But still, it was very disturbing and infuriating at the time.
Looking back, I wished I would pulled up next to them at the light and laid on my horn until the signal turned green
Kent
There’s a lot of it in the rural areas. I ran into an absolutely massive MAGA truck parade in rural Washington a few weekends ago. About 3 miles worth of MAGA trucks with flags. I think they organize on Facebook so it is kind of under the radar if you aren’t paying attention.
My relatives in central PA say there is a lot of political ferver going on. Not so much demonstrations and rallies as elaborate Trump displays I think.
CaseyL
The more I think about this event, the less sense it makes. Less than 3 weeks before Election Day and they’re all going to risk catching the virus?
To accomplish… what, exactly?
JFC.

@CaseyL:
Not sure, cause it won’t stop Moscow Mitch.

@Amir Khalid:
Oh god, they are as loud as they can possibly be, not in any way on the down low. Around here, they seem to piggy back on any Dem events, especially the Ridin’ with Biden events. I’ve been to several of those nearby and every time a bunch of assholes with huge pickups, many of which seem to be rolling coal modified (which is totally illegal), with Mango Mussolini flags and signs, honking and screaming and trying to disrupt our rally. There aren’t more than a dozen or so though. And we just give them the finger with both hands and yell louder. Fuckem.
Goku (Amerikan Baka)
BTW, is anybody worried about the Biden emails? I saw an AP story in my local (now) right-wing rag about Sen. Ron Johnson saying the Senate will investigate these emails. The story even claimed that they contradicted what Biden has been saying about Hunter-Burisma.
Ended by quoting Biden telling a story (originally reported by the WSJ in 2018) at a Council on Foreign Affairs dinner to the effect that he wanted the prosecutor investigating his son gone or “the Ukraine” wouldn’t receive aid ; the Ukrainians said he couldn’t do that as he wasn’t the president. He replied, “Call them”. And then the prosecutor was gone.
Loved the constant “the Ukraine” in the article too. No bylines. Just “Associated Press”. This is such bullshit on multiple levels. That prosecutor was corrupt and one that the international community wanted gone
I can’t find it anywhere online. I don’t know if it was planted by the owners of the media company that now owns the oldest and sole major newspaper in my town. This is fucked. I had flashbacks to 2016. But Her Emails all over again

don’t know if anyone has posted this yet. from our friends at LGM.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Exactly. The GOP will confirm her unless they all get Covid simultaneously and have to be intubated (and maybe even then). There’s just no reason to do this, other than Performative Outrage.
@Goku (Amerikan Baka): No one is worried about But Hiz Emails. The GOP already swung and missed; the provenance of the “proof” has already been debunked.
Fox and the RW Wurlitzer will run with it, but I think the MSM won’t.

@FelonyGovt:
It’s great.
Ken
Wasn’t Guthrie stomping all over Trump enough of a women’s march for this week?
mrmoshpotato
@FelonyGovt: Fuck The Lincoln Project! I DID vote for her! – back in 2016 – her name was Hillary Rodham Clinton!
Where’re these assholes’ “Can we ever atone for being ratfucking bastards for our entire adult lives?” ads?
ETA – not yelling at you.
WaterGirl
@FelonyGovt: I saw that earlier and texted it to two of my religious nieces, both of whom either voted for Trump, didn’t vote, or voted third part in 2016. And both of whom have daughters, one 15 and one 5.
I began with “I thought of (names of the two kids) when I saw this. And then included the link to the video. I will likely not hear back and they may not be pleased, but I wanted them to see in black and white (actually color) what impact this vote will have on their daughters. They are sisters, so I am sure they will talk.
Good ad. I cried, too, when I watched it.

@Goku (Amerikan Baka):
The fired prosecutor story has been debunked many times. The computer story is not gaining any traction because, before this story even broke, the IC put it out that Rudy is a Russian asset and the people he is getting this stuff from are Russian intelligence operatives. Lastly, apparently the computer store guy has changed his story numerous times and there is no proof that the computer in question was Beau’s computer. The whole idea that this is the big October surprise has been pretty much laughed at. Even mainstream media, not for lack of trying, couldn’t make it last a whole day.
Baud
@mrmoshpotato:
I know. But we have to memory hole 2016 for the good of the nation.
mrmoshpotato
@Baud: Don’t know if you’re be sarcastic or in need of a slap.

@CaseyL: “The more I think about this event, the less sense it makes. Less than 3 weeks before Election Day and they’re all going to risk catching the virus?”
The announcement sounds like they are going to do socially distanced marches outside with masks and virtual events. The former should be very low excess risk. Virtual events, no excess risk at all.
Goku (Amerikan Baka)
@CaseyL:
@geg6:
That’s my understanding too and I when I googled “Biden emails” I got numerous links about the FBI investigating the story’s ties to foreign intelligence, so that’s good. It’s just that it was disturbing to see it in my local paper on A3. The “AP” is seen as legitimate by many imo
jl
@mrmoshpotato: Baud 2512! needs a blank slate for his next run. Politics is brutal and ruthless.
FelonyGovt
@mrmoshpotato: Oh, I know. I did too. I don’t think we’re the intended audience though.
Baud
@mrmoshpotato:
We need people to be focused and turn out, and we know there are still many people whose brains cannot rationally deal with the concept of Hillary Clinton. Three more weeks, then we can throw caution to the wind.
debbie
@geg6:
I had never heard of this, but just spent five horrifying minutes reading about it on Wikipedia. That has to be hell on asthma.
debbie
@Goku (Amerikan Baka):
The world is far too busy laughing at Rudy to take much notice.
jl
@Baud: I think that is a good point.

@FelonyGovt: What I hate about this sort of messaging is that it is becoming more and more obvious that the problem isn’t what are we telling our daughters, but “what are we telling our sons?”
We talk about how having daughters turns men into feminists, but not at all about how having sons can turn even the most liberal of women into closet misogynists, teaching their daughters how they have to be strong, what they will be facing in the world. Ignoring the fact that their sons are also listening and learning about how their sisters and other women should be treated. It’s all boys will be boys and what can we do? But meanwhile these families are raising rapists and men who will expect their wives to shoulder the childcare and homekeeping.
The social pressure on boys to be shitheads is so strong. It probably takes triple the effort to raise a strong, feminist boy, but I don’t see any of my friends putting even half the effort into their son’s moral character as they do their daughter’s “strong womaning.”

@debbie: It may also be a case where the corporate news media’s often arbitrary and self-serving ‘old news’ rule might work in our favor. And the bogus bombshell only means anything at all to a person already committed very deep into down the rathole of conspiracy theories, so it’s hard to explain to anyone elsse. And absolutely nothing behind it, so won’t lead to any hot scoops.
Trump and Trumpsters don’t understand how dead ends work, so far, and I hope that continues.
debbie
@FelonyGovt:
Wow. I too cried, with a mix of anger and sadness thinking about one of my brothers who has two daughters and yet thought Trump would be the greatest ever.

@Goku (Amerikan Baka):
Viktor Shokin was not investigating Hunter Biden. End of story.
debbie
@jl:
They don’t understand that people will at some point stop believing constant liars.

@Gin & Tonic:
I guess nobody watched the impeachment hearings.
geg6
@Gin & Tonic:
In fact, one of the problems that the US and allies had with Shokin was he wouldn’t investigate Burisma. It’s always projection with these people.
Yutsano
This thread has wandered so I’mma gonna drop this here.
FUUUUUUUUUUCK MARK KELLY!!!
debbie
@Yutsano:
Why Mark?

@zhena gogolia:
@geg6
I don’t know how you guys keep track of all these details. I remembered that Shokin was corrupt and the international community wanted him gone. This is even worse (for Rudy’s hail mary)
I need my own bulletin board with pins and string to keep track of all the BS like the Question
?BillinGlendaleCA
@zhena gogolia: People forget, that was like years ago, right?
FelonyGovt
@Feathers: That’s a really good point. As the mother of one daughter, who never had to deal with bringing up boys, that hadn’t occurred to me. But I do think this ad is effective bcause Trump is a perfect example of what you wouldn’t want your son to be.
zhena gogolia
@Yutsano:
You mean John, please
ETA: This blog has confused Nicolle Wallace with Nicola Walker already once today. Peter Strzok Michael Bennet Cornel West
zhena gogolia
@Goku (Amerikan Baka):
It was the policy of the US government to get rid of Shokin precisely BECAUSE he wasn’t investigating corruption. Biden was representing US interests, not his own personal or political interests, like someone who shall remain nameless.
Yutsano
@zhena gogolia: Because…physio brain? I obviously mean General John Kelly not future Senator Mark Kelly. Mea maxima culpa. The sentiment still stands however.
cain
@debbie:
I think he meant John Kelly but he had Mark Kelly on the brain.
zhena gogolia
Well, I just have to say we voted today! It’s not the way I planned it — dropping an envelope in a dropbox.
zhena gogolia
@Yutsano:
Yeah, John Kelly’s patriotism is just breathtaking.
Yutsano
@cain: I did mean John Kelly. Maybe I should stop commenting tonight.
Jager
@debbie:
While I was getting my Jeep serviced, I overheard an argument between the service manager, the general manager, and a moron who had modified his Ram 2500 with a Cummins diesel to roll coal. He blew the engine up, voided the warranty, and was looking 12k to get it rebuilt or replaced. The guy was really pissed, yelling, and screaming. The GM of the dealership was calm, looked him in the ey,e and said, very quietly, “Did you read the warranty before you decided to destroy the engine.” I know the GM, after the guy left, we talked about it, he told me it was the 2nd time this year a moron has destroyed an engine that with proper care and service will last a half a million miles.
zhena gogolia
@Yutsano:
Oh, come on. It’s not as bad as Nicolle Wallace for Nicola Walker. (big Nicola Walker fan here)
debbie
@Jager:
Five bucks says the guy will spring for a new engine and then get it modified all over again.
debbie
@Yutsano:
I’m sorry. I honestly thought I’d missed some news item. It’s tough keeping up with everything, as we all know.
satby
@mrmoshpotato: you obviously didn’t watch the ad, it’s about time modelling for young girls and countering Trump’s misogyny. And it’s excellent.
You don’t have to embrace them, but the ads they put out in support of Biden and against Republicans are well done.
geg6
@Goku (Amerikan Baka):
To be fair, I take a special interest in the Russian stuff just because my undergrad poli sci concentration was the Soviet Union and my minor was history with a focus on Russian history. Pitt has an excellent Eastern European studies department. I’ve always been fascinated by Russia.
satby
@satby: and stupid duplicate comment again with no edit window for me to correct “time modeling” to “role modeling”.
The ad has absolutely nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. Shows Kamala in a very powerful way. Watch it, it’s quite good.
satby
@Baud: @mrmoshpotato: everything isn’t about Clinton boys. A clue might have been the mention of viewers being moved to tears.

Deleted for redundancy
Yutsano
@debbie: Agreed. But on a positive note the surname Kelly goes to Mark.
But while we’re at it: FUUUUUUUUUUCK DAVE PERDUE!!!

And since the duplicate comment again struck I’m out.
(WG I’m on a device that wasn’t used all day, was rebooted before I got in the blog, and has no previous comments, so your theory doesn’t apply).

@FelonyGovt: But it only reinforces that all you have to do is support your daughter in fighting an unjust world (easy), when the real task is teaching your son not to perpetuate it, even though this will likely cost him friends and cut off careers and opportunities (very, very hard).
Making this a women’s problem needs to stop. Whether or not today’s young daughters are damaged by the Trump years will almost entirely be determined by how deeply its message was internalized by their brothers.
ETA: misplaced apostrophe
debbie
@Yutsano:
Jesus.
satby
@Feathers: Ok, last comment, and I only birthed sons. Yes, you have a point, and I don’t think it relates to the ad, because it’s targeted for habitual Republicans who have daughters. And it’s fairly obvious you didn’t seem to watch it either. Media criticism without watching the media in question is…lame.

@Amir Khalid:
There’s a reason they have truck or boat parades instead of marches. The size of the vehicles, and the needed space between them on streets or waterways, obscures the tiny, tiny number of actual participants, which would make a laughably small walking demonstration.
