    I dunno, I don’t want to overdo it but we’re going to keep having pet threads so here goes. This was 12 years ago and we’d had her 6 months and Bohdi for a couple of years.

    @Mary G: I think I’ve avoided looking at the video I have of her because she slowed down so much and we were just trying to keep her going without letting her go too far. She was so much fun for so long

    @Raven: Lil Bit is a beautiful Spaniel and full of the business too!  And I bet that cutie Bohdi is the perfect antidote for her big personality.  We don’t deserve such wonderful companions but thank goodness we have them.

    If you’re looking for respite, I highly recommend the documentary My Octopus Teacher, on Netflix. It’s about a guy in South Africa and his year long friendship with an octopus. If you ever had any doubts about the intelligence and emotional life of octopuses / octopi / octopedestrians / whatever, this film should settle them. It’s truly amazing.

    And if you don’t feel bonded to the octopus yourself, there’s something wrong with you.

    I heard a report that new research shows that dogs cannot recognize a person’s face. They recognize their owners by smell. What do any dog people here think about that?

    The reporter doing the spot ended by saying she hoped no dog owners feelings were hurt. I thought, what about the poor dog’s feelings. What if dogs knew that we couldn’t recognize them by small. We could tell them not to worry, we can recognize them by their faces, and the dog would thing WTF is a face? My owner can’t smell me?

    Maybe that is why some dogs make sure the stink themselves up on a regular basis. They just want us to recognize them on their own tersm.

    While cooling my heels waiting in the snaking line to gain entrance to Coscto (no pets allowed there) earlier this month watched the person ahead of me pick up he tiny dog, stuff it into a fabric carryall bag she also had in her cart and zip that completely shut. Struck me as both selfish and cruel.

    @jl: My little guy may be a little confused on species differences, possibly due to the fact that I often get down on the floor to play with him. When he wants to play tug of war, he frequently tries to put my end of the tug of war toy in my mouth rather than my hands.

    Hasn’t offered me his butt to sniff though. Thank Dog.

    The NY Dogs in Bags is completely adorable – particularly the really large dogs that aren’t in the bags so much as they are wearing them like coats.
