Hey everyone I just want to remind everyone that if the polls are right and next week goes the way we hope then we DO NOT HAVE PARTIES TO CELEBRATE.
The first month of clawing back from the abyss cannot be about fresh viral breakouts because of a Times Square victory kegger. https://t.co/uKGyC82kKX

Subtweeting the NYTimes editorial page:
One of the more radicalizing aspects of the Biden campaign is watching the "WHY WON'T THE LIBS COMPROMISE" Very Smart Person crowd take the compromise, spit on it, throw it on the ground, stomp on it as hard as they can, then ask the same question again.

I mean, if you want Trump to win and can't be persuaded by anything he did or by any attempts at moderation by the Dems, you're not a Bold Free Thinker, you're just a Republican. That's your right as an American citizen, but there are millions of them, it ain't that special.

It IS kind of gratifying how easily the “old clothes” fit the media, Dems HAVE to compromise, Dems HAVE to be bipartisan, the GOP never has to do these things… it’s like we know who’s the favorite in the family is… one kid has to show their work and do their chores, while the other goes out in the yard and tortures the neighborhood cats and shoots squirrels and birds with pellet guns.

Fbuk is full of antics and shenanigans today, so dog knows what was ackshirley understood in my post earlier this afternoon. But in the spirit of the blues singer who says, “Say it again,”:
I take comfort in the notion that at least one of those pouring scorn on prudent precautions will end up intubated, or with any luck it will be their elderly auntie. We can talk about ‘nice’ on November 4th, because as of today I am sick of this shit.—*Myself up on my titanium-enhanced hind legs.

Trump could make a very timely and effective (and even inexpensive) ad for TV by just holding a flashlight under his chin and saying, “It’s mourning in America!”

Parents of toddlers, I recommend Puffin Rock for a very zen tv show for you and the littles. Gentle music, Irish accents and educational content about the natural world.

Speaking of grownups, this mom couldn’t host a birthday party for her son so she took him out for a happy meal. Awesome.

Over 45 minutes (and still counting) of waiting in line to vote in Northern Virginia at a satellite county government office. At least we have a good parking spot so we can get home quickly once weâre done. And the restaurants along the street here are making chicken…

The Eccentric
Hello!
It really does feel like we’re on two different worlds that are existing simultaneously. I can’t get over Jenna’s tweet from above…I would think a lunatic who holds rallies where people have to be hospitalized for freezing, followed by one where people suffer from heatstroke would inspire far more fear than someone who tries to keep his attendees safe. Unreal!
Apparently The Orange One was unaware of what was going on at the Orlando rally and kept asking if they were friend or foe, almost urging the crowd to attack the ones trying to help. How anyone could vote for this menace is beyond me….
I want to deeply thank the jackals who have sent me money, along with their kind thoughts. It was mentioned that this was reminiscent of the infamous Jurassic Pork, who seemed to spam quite a few sites years ago with a never-ending series of pleas for money. I have no connection with Mr. Pork, and believe me, this was the last thing I wanted to do. I have no intention of continuing to rely on your good faith. This is a one-time situation.Â
Iâm not entirely sure why the address I gave didnât resolve properly, since it seemed to work on my end, but that may be because I initiated the account. Several people have donated, so it apparently worked for them. If youâd like to help, you can use my email address Edmund.Kowalski at gmail dot com to send through PayPal.
It really troubles me to delurk and ask for assistance, but sometimes the hand thatâs dealt is a particularly bad one. So, if you can help, great. I promise to pay things forward once this situation resolves itself. Thank you for your generosity and I look forward to delurking permanently and contributing to this forum.Â
Kindest regards and thoughts to all. Next Tuesday can’t get here soon enough.

IF the election goes well, find some place safe and celebrate like you’re 20 again.

FYI.

Voted in Medford (translated from “Meffid”) MA today. Early voting in MA is odd. You fill out a ballot like you would on Nov. 3, but you seal that in an envelope that goes into a locked box instead of a Scantron vote counter. To be counted Nov. 3 or 4. Cant remember which.
It was coldish (47) and raining pretty good. I had to stand in the fully masked and appropriately distanced line outside for 20 mins. Sadly I didn’t have an umbrella, just a plain grey cotton hoodie.* Then, 20 minutes inside to V-O-T-E.

My nieces and nephews have kids his age and it’s gotta be heartbreaking for parents to deal with this nonsense as kids miss out on childhood milestones.
Speaking of Yoda, my friend Opal Jane (8) has now got a hamster named Ham Solo.

Yeah, gotta find a slice of happiness somewhere. Good luck on your fundraising.
Elsewhere, here’s Kamala dancing again
And Sarah Cooper is back, still brilliant but this one isn’t that funny.

Here’s the aforementioned Ham Solo just up from a nap.

Better reason to not congregate in public at a Biden victory demonstration/party/whatever is that it’s a soft target for someone heavily armed who is p*ssed off that Der Trumpenfuhrer has not triumphed.

@Immanentize:
Aww, I used to vote in Slumerville. Â Hillside School. Â Please tell me it is still there.
Kayla Rudbek
And to note: the Trumpsters (I. E. Â the Republican Party booth with sample ballots) packed up and left, and the Democratic Party booth still has a rep onsite. It reminds me of Kayâs comments regarding low-quality hires. About 1.5 hours in line and still not in the building yet

@HumboldtBlue:
Love that Kamala video. Â Iâve already decided Iâm wearing Chucks to the polls on Tuesday.

I just saw a Trump ad on TV. I’m in Texas, haha.
Kattails
@featheredsprite: “Celebrate like you’re 20 again” wold probably kill me given the substances that were being handed around at that time. But I will work on the spirit of the thing.
robmassing
The brave thing to do is don’t wear a mask, don’t distance, and die of COVID.
WaterGirl
@Kattails: Did you see that DougJ put up a thermometer for Four Directions yesterday? Â the 4 groups that you liked to at VoteAmerica (or something like that) isn’t set up in Act Blue. Â But Four Directions was one of those groups, so we have the BJ thermometer for that.
The Moar You Know
@enplaned: My wife wanted to have a properly distanced celebration (it would be, nobody here is stupid) in the middle of our cul-de-sac. Hell to the fuck no, precisely for the reason you cite.  Sadly, this will happen, more than one, November 4.
Geoduck
I hope that Biden just up and cancels most of the inaugural. Get the people who need to be there for the swearing in, wearing masks, do the deed, give a televised speech and get to work.

@featheredsprite: Someone here said they were ordering an air horn for Election night, in case it’s a clear win.
I just remembered that we have a boat horn that we got when our youngest was in HS to use at the football games. It’s a red-orange plastic horn and when you blow into it it produces a very loud obnoxious noise. I need to find ours for Tuesday night so we can be loud and obnoxious on our front porch, and wake up all of our Trumpy/Republican neighbors.
FlyingToaster
@Immanentize: re early ballots
November 3. Most towns are having open observation of the ballot processing. Every day or other day the precinct bins are emptied, one at a time, the votes “checked in” (like the second check in at the table next to the scanner), envelopes turned “signature away” from the person opening, removing and unfolding the ballots and placed in the precinct lockbox. On Election Day, the early-vote lockboxes go up to the precinct polling places with their zeroed-out scanner. Then, before the polls open, they start scanning in the ballots. Whenever there’s a lull in voters, they scan in more ballots.
I’ve watched them do this in Watertown D-10 for the 2018 general and my husband watched them for the 2020 primary.

@Jenna Ellis:
Good grief. If somebody says you should wear a parachute before jumping out of a plane, are they giving in to the fear?
FlyingToaster
@MomSense:
Nope, it’s gone, but nearly all of the Somerville schools have been replaced.
I used to vote at Conwell (Capen Ct), and that and Powderhouse (Broadway) were combined into West Somerville Community on Powderhouse. Healey(?) is now Winter Hill Community. Et cetera.
Brown is still there. It’s like 120 years old.
Ceci n est pas mon nym
I’m still trying to decide if and when and how to celebrate Tuesday night. Knowing that there will likely be a lot of anxiety and attempted overturning of vote counts for weeks, I think my best case scenario is a quiet celebration Tuesday night or Wednesday am, followed by the huge one when the election is certified in Joe’s favor.
I think I’ll be with all you jackals and see how we collectively feel about the celebrate-o-meter. And if it’s a sleepless night as it was on my birthday in 2016, but the celebration comes at 5 am, so be it. You damn well bet I’ll celebrate.
FlyingToaster
@FlyingToaster: And I was wrong; Healey is still there, though it looks like it’s a new building.
opiejeanne
@NotMax: Not In Seattle. Supposed to get half an inch of rain but the state votes by mail so it probably won’t matter.
Scott Alloway
@featheredsprite: I will celebrate as I did in 2008. Champagne, tears, and laughter as Biden declares victory. Then I will play “Happy Days Are Here Again” from speakers on the porch. I am an 70-year-old white guy from New England, exiled to Pennsylvania due to marital status.
Scott Alloway
@Immanentize: Wear mine here in PA after my transplant from NE (I moved, she wouldn’t. Native PA woman and it’s been 40 years now).
Matt McIrvin
@Immanentize: I heard Education Commissioner Riley is recommending keeping schools open in red zones and threatening them with some kind of audit if they choose now to go virtual after Thanksgiving, instead of promising to follow the state’s recommendations. It seems like our Nice Republican overlords are starting to show their death-cult bona fides.
