I’m going to be back in the Seattle area November 22-24. I am not insensitive to the times, but I am DYING for some meet-up action! Any possibility?…

Yutsano, I just heard from you Mom. She asked me to pass this message along to you:
Urza
Can’t promise the weather, but I have a nice roofed deck over in Sammamish that would be good for at least a few people to be mostly distanced. If its good weather and someone brings chairs I also have a second uncovered deck. Can do some grilling or something.
satby
@WaterGirl: weird how she sounds just like you?
Benw
@satby: has anyone ever SEEN WaterGirl and Yutsano’s mom in the same room before? Hmmm
Baud
@Benw:
I haven’t even seen them in separate rooms.
Amir Khalid
@Benw:
Have we already ruled out the possibility that WaterGirl is Yutsano’s Mom?
WaterGirl
@satby: Who knew she would even know how to reach me? She must read balloon juice!
sphouch
There are all sorts of locations around where you can socially distance a get-together. Wineries, breweries, Interbay golf center, the Lauren Culp for Governor campaign hq…

Dear Yutsano, I love you and I love BJ meetups, but we’re not even having our quarantined kids over on Thanksgiving, so I’m sorry but we’ll have to say no to this time.
Dan B
@Urza: Covered deck sounds fine. I have a 10 x 10 fabric shelter, portable, and some umbrellas that could waterproof your other deck if it isn’t too windy.
opiejeanne
@Urza: that’s kind of you to offer, but it will have to be another time for us.

Nigel Farage, leader of the Brexit party, now wants to rebrand it, per this post in The Guardian’s coronavirus liveblog:
J R in WV
I would fly to Seattle for a meetup, but for the Trump Plague.
I persist in calling the current plague that — Trump Plague
H.E.Wolf
My partner and I are being prudent for the foreseeable future, so I’ll be skipping in-person meetups for a while. Ask me again in 2022. :)
Yutsano
To be fair I’m not asking anyone to commit to anything. I’m just gauging if there’s any interest. I will be over on Saturday now and I will have many other points of interest to explore. I’ll leave it open but it won’t be my last trip. And I am going to work on ending my exile next year.
H.E.Wolf
PS: Yutsano, I very much regret missing your visit!
Yutsano
@H.E.Wolf: Let’s go for this: after I have moved (which will be early 2022 hopefully) and Covid is under control we do a housewarming meet-up?
gene108
@WaterGirl:
Words of wisdom. Best thing for all of us to do is avoid each other as much as possible.
Please call the Seattle meet-up off. It’s so damn foolish.
WaterGirl
@gene108: I’ll let Yutsano’s mom know that you agree with her. :-)

@Amir Khalid:
Why does the Electoral Commission need to get involved in renaming Brexit Party plc into Reform Party plc? Shouldn’t that just go to Company House? (Yes my American friends, the Brexit Party is a for profit company masquerading as a political party, with Farage as one of its three directors. People can’t become members, but they can make donations. It’s a level of grift that even the shitgibbon must be jealous of. )
Omnes Omnibus
@gene108: Everyone here is an adult.

Would be nice but I’m being smart.

@J R in WV: I second that sentiment. I, too, would delightedly load up on the BNA – SEA direct flight to make this scene. Alas, the Trump Plague prevents my attendance this time.
Y’all have a wonderful, safely separated time on that there back deck.
WaterGirl
@Omnes Omnibus:
Oh my god, Omnes, I see that you have upgraded your opinion about many of us here. Maybe on a good day we come close!
Thor Heyerdahl
@Amir Khalid: Farage should have gone with the Numpty Party.
mrmoshpotato
@Amir Khalid: Nigel Farage is a whiny, bratty, stupid child.
He can rebrand once he gives the NHS £350 million per month (or was the lie per week?).
Matt McIrvin
@Amir Khalid: I saw some video he made about pushing back against the lockdown in England, and he was obviously not in England at all but in the atrium of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC. It kind of undercut the message.

100,000 cases a day in the us so i’m hunkering down like a motherfucker. meetup is no bueno for now.
H.E.Wolf
Once both are really truly true, then yes!
CaseyL
I’d have to see what the venue is. I’m waiting to go online for some phone banking, so I can’t linger, but has a Zoom meetup already been ruled out?
WaterGirl
@CaseyL: No, i promised some zoom meetups and then it got lost in the shuffle of the crazy last few months. But we could make that happen once things settle down a bit. Let’s see what the next week brings.
Emma
Just to add that cases in King County have been increasing quite a lot, even more than the April numbers. I’m convinced that the only reason we haven’t regressed to phase 1 or official shutdown is because of the election. Sorry, Yutsano, another year :(
Fair Economist
@Amir Khalid:
Killing the economy wasn’t enough, so now he wants to kill all the people too?
JaySinWA
Zoom up not meet up. I am too old for this shit (Covid).
The Enderville Phantom
Masking and length of time together: The factoring of COVID-19 transmission. With that in mind, it is possible … for a impromptu waving as we order take out at more or less the same time someplace. In that way maybe we could bond over signing John Cole’s holiday card on a table, with hand sanitizer bottle nearby for the pen, one at a time, distancing and writing, “Seasons Greetings from all of us” before departing. The weather may be iffy as November rolls on for outdoor walks around Green Lake, Carkeek Park after Dick’s hamburgers, etc. Who can say? Be safe.
hotshoe
I’d love the excuse for a trip to Seattle, but …
November average weather is high of 51, low 43, and 15 days of rain per month. That doesn’t sound like quite so much fun. Cool and damp. Not as bad as, say, South Dakota, but … I’d rather be taking a trip to warm and dry instead.
thalarctosMaritimus
I prefer to think of it this way–it takes a pandemic and an economic crash to keep me away from a Seattle BJ meetup.
