Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Worthwhile Reminders & Election Results

Anne Laurie found this excellent advice, that we thought would be great for sharing tonight:

Guide to upsetting election stories, from Steve Inskeep

Wait before sharing upsetting election stories.

People want to manipulate you.

What’s the source?

Is it a news org with editors?

Looks big on Twitter, but is it just a local incident?

Repeat #1. Anything truly important will still be there in an hour.

???

JeffreyW found gem, and excerpt from Gary Hart, that I thought was worth sharing:

A note from Gary Hart at Keep Our Republic

In a matter of hours, we will not only select a national leader, we will conduct a national referendum on our character as a people, a society, and a nation.

Like the Biblical prodigal son, we will come home from squandering our inheritance and seek redemption in the eyes of history and the world.

This election is about history, justice, and hope.  It is about who we Americans truly are.

Mr. Heaney’s translation of this story of redemption is best known today for the passage beloved of many candidates, including this one, and now Joe Biden on the eve of the 2020 presidential election:

History says, Don’t hope
on this side of the grave.
But then, once in a lifetime
the longed for tidal wave
of justice can rise up,
and hope and history rhyme.

This is where we find ourselves, longing for the tidal wave of justice, and praying that hope and history will once more rhyme again.

Anne Laurie expects to be away from the computer until later this evening.  Seeing it as it unfolds could be nerve-wracking, but I’m not brave enough to walk away and find out the results all at once!

Despite my best intentions to pay no attention till 9 or 10 pm, I have a news program on screen. It’s MSNBC. Not watching or listening to the video, but I do have their interactive toy up on the screen.

They’re projecting only VT (Biden) and IN (Trump) so far. That’s based on 3% and 12% of the precincts, respectively.

The by mail votes and early votes in Florida are gross numbers only sorted by party affiliation. They say nothing about the votes within. Like how many Gopees voted for Biden or Dems for Trump or how Independents actually split their votes. The PTB down here have been saying this all week. The actual votes cannot be released until the panhandle closes at 8 pm. You got 14 minutes to go.

@Ceci n est pas mon nym: They’ve got some kind of model that projects Biden is going to win Virginia based on how they think votes are distributed across the state, and how well he’s doing in the places where they have numbers. Since Virginia polled as a safe blue state this cycle (unlike 2016, where Clinton had to actually fight for it), they didn’t need to see much to be convinced there wasn’t an unusual red wave there. (I’ve watched Virginia for many years since I used to live there–the bluest votes always come in late, from NoVa.)

Personally, I think they shouldn’t be doing this. But it’s what they do.
