US deaths had a big spike today to 1528. Outlook is grim. Glad I got my flu shot.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
The simpler explanation is, it’s America and Americans in general won’t do simple things like exercise or watching what they eat for the good of their own heath. I got to wonder how many people think Trump getting the virus, then getting drugged to hell and gone was the way to do it, rather than think Trump was total idiot for exposing himself like that.
After today I am more of, ok you all voted for death, well then let’s open all the bars, sports stadiums and theaters and go for it until you all hand enough pain.
CaseyL
I got my flu shot too, and it looks like I just won’t do anything anywhere near other people for another year or so.
The new flareups in Europe bother me a lot, because they seemed to have their act together., esp. with the mask wearing What happened? What was the entry point for the new infections?
Jack Canuck
@Enhanced Voting Techniques: That one caught my eye too – my reaction was “the US hasn’t DONE a lockdown!” Certainly not nationally, though maybe what, say, New York did could qualify maybe. But as far as I’m aware (and I freely admit that I may have missed something) nowhere in the US has even gone as far as Melbourne did, and certainly nowhere near the Spanish or Italian examples in their worst-hit regions.

When your base votes R regardless of death, theirs or anyone else’s, we have to neutralize the cheating, because “dead from the neck up” is also a category.

Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 numbers. DG of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reports 1,032 new cases today, for a cumulative reported total of 35,425 cases. He reports eight deaths, a new record, for a total of 271 deaths — 0.8% of the cumulative reported total, 1.08% of resolved cases.

@CaseyL: Also a lot of family get togethers of 15-20 people who had dearly missed each other and got overconfident that they could kiss, hug, and eat out of communal dishes indoors. Only takes one asymptomatic kid to infect 6 or 7 people in that scenario. AKA Thanksgiving & Christmas here.

A.L., amazing that you are keeping this up today of all days. Does it count as an election respite thread?
Anyway, update from China:
Yesterday, China reported 2 new domestic confirmed cases (all previously asymptomatic, under isolation) and 116 new domestic asymptomatic cases (all are traced close contacts already under quarantine), all at Shufu County in Kashgar Prefecture in Xinjiang “Autonomous” Region. I am surprised that so many asymptomatic cases are still being found. Yesterday was the 10th day since the 1st case in the outbreak was reported on 10/24, and 4 sub-townships in Shufu County has been under lock down since then. The epicenter of the outbreak being a factory with a workforce primarily of young women may mean most of the cases have longer incubation periods. There are now 64 confirmed cases (including 8 in serious condition) and 345 asymptomatic cases in Xinjiang.
Yesterday, China reported 15 new imported confirmed cases and 12 imported asymptomatic cases and 1 new imported suspect case:
The 4 confirmed and 19 asymptomatic cases reported by Wuhan in Hubei Province on 11/2 were not Chinese nationals returning from India, but Indian nationals coming from the country on a charter flight. No further information has been released. Curious what would bring a sizable group of Indian nationals to Wuhan on a charter. Among the cases is a family cluster. India does not have a consulate in Wuhan to restaff.
Yesterday, Hong Kong reported 3 new cases, 2 from local transmission, both with source of infection identified.
Sloane Ranger
Didn’t think people would be interested in this today but was proved wrong. Here is the view from the UK. We had 20,018 new cases yesterday, up just over 1000 from the day before, but case numbers are beginning to show a slight downwards trend across all home nations. Cases by home nation,
England – 17330 (up 1500 or so)
Northern Ireland – 570 (up @80)
Scotland – 999 (up @50)
Wales – 1119 (down @400)
Deaths – There were 397 new deaths yesterday, with 1126 deaths with COVID on the Death Certificate as of Friday, 23 October. New deaths were 359 in England, 6 in Northern Ireland, 28 in Scotland and 4 in Wales. The trendline on the Dashboard shows a levelling off but at a high level.
Testing – 207,817 tests were processed yesterday out of a capacity of 521,016.
Hospitalisations – 11,458 were in hospital nationwide as of Sunday, 1st November and 1075 were on ventilators as of Monday, 2 November. Numbers of hospitalisations are increasing in all home nations bar Northern Ireland where there is a slight decrease.
General – As of 29th October the number of people with a positive test per 100,000 of the population during the preceding week were, in ascending order,
Scotland – 149.8
England – 226.4
Wales – 289.2
Northern Ireland – 301.1.
That’s all today.

I have been awake over 24 hrs. I have to say this. Donald Trump was not a fluke in 2016. There is something deeply wrong with this country. No matter who ran against Trump in 2020 that person would have lost. I truly think Covid will be the reason Biden wins, if he wins.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Jack Canuck: If varied a lot by state, Cal we did a pretty serious lock down. I think the fact that the press uses the word lock down for silly stuff like “wear a mask” and not just, everyone but essential workers stay home, in their minds their state was shut down for three months.
Americans, as I said.
Same shit happen with the Spanish Flue.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Sab: Well that’s already happening now in the Midwest. After a fucking six month warning.
In a sane rational world, everyone wears a mask and thinks are ok, but most of us don’t live there so this shit happens. The reason why the West Coast is doing good is because of AIDs, no one wanted to stick a condom on their dick until enough people died that everyone became terrified their dicks were going to fall off for humping the wrong person. Now it’s easy for them to slap a mask on their face.
charon
@Quinerly:
I think Covid is what made this thing close. People want to go back to work and play, Biden might spoil their fun with lockdowns and closing bars or whatever
That’s what all those polls saying Trump is “better on the economy” mean.
