Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Everybody saw this coming.

Republicans in disarray!

The willow is too close to the house.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Putin dreamed of ending NATO, and now it’s Finnish-ed.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

He really is that stupid.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Fani Willis claps back at Trump chihuahua, Jim Jordan.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

This really is a full service blog.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Biden is up by 11.4K right now in NV.

Dems are going to win these mail ballots coming in from Election Day and yesterday — 63K. And they should win them decisively. That leaves 60K provisionals, which have been evenly split.

So here is a funny story to take some edge off. Shortly after the 2016 election, I posted about how I noticed one of my tenants (minimum wage jobs) had a massive Trump banner in their living room window, and I asked if it would be bad to jack up their rent. I ended up  increasing their rent 5% a year because, capitalism.

Fast forward to 2019. They told me they weren’t renewing their lease , as quote, “we bought a house.” This wasn’t unusual as there were many safe Detroit suburbs where you could buy a house for $150k. But when they moved out and texted me their forwarding address, my jaw hit the fucking floor. It was a street address for a upper middle class suburb, where if you told people you lived there, they would assume $500k mcmansion . I thought to myself, damn , maybe Trump did help them do really well. So I google street view’d the address. It was a trailer park.

@narya: the dryer sheets (and also liquid fabric softener) coat the laundry with waxy/surfactant substances https://home.howstuffworks.com/dryer-sheets.htm. I personally use liquid fabric softener on most of my clothes (excluding the workout/bicycle clothes) and vinegar instead of fabric softener for the towels (as I want the towels to soak up water).

And I also use a wool dryer ball (most of the time-sometimes it gets stuck in a load and gets transferred out of the dryer) I haven’t used dryer sheets in years as I’m not all that keen on having wax-coated dryer lint around.

Cat club: There is a wide variety of approaches among Jews who keep kosher; one person’s method might not pass muster with another.

There can be a fair amount of cattiness involved in judging another household’s adherence to what the judger thinks proper (“I was in her house and I saw (disputed brand of food) in her pantry”).

At any rate, yes, bacon is off limits but there is a such thing as kosher beef fry, which is something of a substitute. And many would accept vegetarian “bacon” and “sausage”, as well as Baco’s (do they make them any more?).

    Pendant off.

I keep thinking that today should feel like waiting for a very pregnant family or friend to give birth: Is she in labor yet? Did they leave for the hospital? and so on. Happy anticipation, excitement about the new arrival.

Instead I feel like we are on a death watch.

@zzyzx: That’s a little closer than I’d like, but PA mailins were running about 65% Democratic, 25% Republican, 10% no party.

If anyone wants to obsessively watch the PA count vote by vote, the official Counting Dashboard is here.

They’re showing a total of 2,612,841 ballots and there were 2,506,557 as of Election Day. So I guess they’ve gotten about 100,000 late ballots. And that’s not saying they were postmarked late, just arrived late.

What principle do Trumpidiots think they’re following by demanding that votes cast and sitting in the election office before the election should not be counted?

Biden had won 78 percent of the mail votes counted as of this morning.”

Well, that’s a little more comfortable than 65%. The 65% number I gave above is based only on Democrats, and technically we don’t know if Biden got 100% of registered Democrats. But he probably got a nonzero percentage of the Republicans and we’ve already heard that independents are breaking for Biden.

@Quinerly: My theory is that conservative Hispanics and Anglos who live in the area happened to vote at the Nambe site. Don’t know for sure, though. Will ask a friend who lives near there.

    @zzyzx:

OK, if Biden wins, what will be the call that puts him over the 270 count on AP?

I figure in descending order of likeliness

    1) PA
    2) NV/AZ
    3) GA/AZ
    4) GA/NV (AZ rescinded)
    5) NC/AZ
    6) NC/NV (AZ rescinded)

It’s going to be PA. Nevada might finish counting first but they’re going to stall on calling it until Arizona confirms that Biden won. They’ll have egg on their faces if they put Biden over 270 then have to recant.

If Biden does win NC or GA, it will almost certainly be pending a recount. PA should be finished counting before that happens.

So I’d put my quatloos on PA for the call, although I guess there’s an outside chance that both NV and AZ confirm before PA does. PA also looks like it will have the safest margin for Biden when this is all done, so we’ll probably hear a call not too long after Biden takes the lead.

    Hmmm. Is mustard kosher?

    How bout ketchup?

Semi-seriously, how has “impossible meat” and similar products been accepted?
