there’s no truth to it

A thought from last night while watching 3 minutes of my media betters on abc was, Trump has been running for this election for FOUR F-ing years, why didn’t he win?  He started holding 2024 rallies in 2017, FFS.  Wikipedia calls them all other things (Thank You rally, Mid-Term Rally), and I totally forgot his F-ing Thank You rallies in DECEMBER 2016.  Anyone remember that?  Rubbing it in peoples’ faces?  He held 9 of those in December 2016.

Overall, and I may be off one or two, he had 174 rallies over the last four years, which is 11.9% of the days.  So basically every 12 days on average he needed to appear in front of a large crowd to validate his sorry self, ramble on about how great he is, and denigrate the other side.

I thought I need to replace my campaign car stickers with a President Joe Biden sticker.  Then a better idea: God Bless President Biden.  And I want his face on it as well.

I just want to leave this here as personal report.   I worked the in-person polls here in a reliable blue state, but polarized district.  Two thirds voted in-person.  We had a third vote absentee.  In person votes favored T, so a lot of folks saw those numbers and despaired (or rejoiced, I suppose).  However, once we added in the absentee ballot totals, biden won.

Similar to other BJers, I have been an election official for many years.  I am pretty proud of my little town for how well the voters treated us (with few exceptions), even when they didn’t quite understand why we were doing what we were doing to make sure every eligible voter could cast their ballots.

Not really.  I am sure we’re going to see this coming from the right for quite a while, but when all is said and done it’s not likely to be particularly close in the Electoral College and the popular vote margin will be pretty big – definitely bigger than Clinton’s in 2016, as one of many examples.

@Enhanced Voting Techniques: regarding trump’s rallies: I listened to WBT Charlotte radio election coverage Tuesday night, and I heard a couple journalists speculating on the effect of the trump rallies in that state. While acknowledging the public health dangers, they thought the NC rallies may have helped trump, possibly by creating a “bandwagon effect” attraction to voters, and as a means to harvest names and addresses to employ in GOTV and propaganda efforts. Of course, the rallies  demonstrated a cynical and callous approach to public health, and will leave disease and death in their wake. But since when has trump shown any sincere concern for anybody but himself?

I have two theories on why it hasn’t been called.

    1. Bob Casey said that about half of the remaining ballots are provisional and not mail-in. If so, the analysts may not have a trend on how those ballots will go. Given they’re mostly from Philly and Pitt, they should all break Biden.
    2. Given Trump’s declaration of victory, the networks are coordinating their decision to call the election, and that’s not going to happen at 5 AM Pacific time.

I get that the media elites hate the president but realize that over 68 million Americans voted for him, in what has to be one of the closest contest in modern presidential history. While you gleefully celebrate his demise you are also insulting those who supported him.

What an excellent point, thank you. The GOP really lead by example on this, illustrating the rule that you’re not supposed to have gleeful, loud public celebrations unless you lose the popular vote by at least a million or two, and then squeak out victory by a few hundred thousand votes in a key state or so. That’s when you’ve won for real and can rub it shamelessly and tirelessly in the face of anyone who can’t escape listening.

Also, when you’ve pinched a supreme court seat. that’s worth breaking covid secure restrictions to have a big party for. But winning a few key states somewhat narrowly AND ALSO the popular vote by 3 million! Why that’s just being a sore winner! You are probably best off shaking hands in a gentlemanly way, and quietly adopting the policies and personnel of the … not losing party, that sounds wrong… the confederacy party? No, the winning disadvantaged party.. yes, them. The poor hard-done by darlings.

Also, with regards to that Tweet from Mr Craig “sensitive snowflake” Robinson. In 2000, George W. Bush won what was probably the closest election in American history, which came down to a handful of votes in one state. He took office and governed as if he had an overwhelming mandate. In 2016, Trump lost the popular vote by millions and won the Electoral College because of tiny margins in 3 states, and governed like, well, Trump. So, after due consideration, I find I must join my fellow commentators in concluding “Fuck Your Feelings”.

@Quinerly: McCain was very feisty and dissed Trump repeatedly. McSally just wrung her hands and looked lost and sad like a puppy in trouble. Apparently not a good look for electoral office seekers.

I passionately hate Rob Portman, but he manages to be very deferential without actually looking weak. He goes for the no comment because I am preoccupid with other important issues you haven’t noticed yet approach.

@germy: Remember when Tapper got all out of shape when Obama suggested Fox was a biased organization?  I remember…

    Well, better late than never.

@Sab: DeWine chickening out is regression to the mean/return to normalcy.  I feel better now that he’s his usual weaselly self.

@Kattails: She has written two serious non-fiction works. But also as Serena Montgomery lots of romance novels with not very steamy titles. For those who like such things.

    @germy:

Delusion — it’s what the Trump campaign is having for breakfast.

And lunch. And dinner. And a midnight snack with all those hamberders.

@germy: It’s kinda funny.  The Trump campaign is clearly under orders to keep this crap flowing.

Trump has turned into Jill Stein

@Dorothy A. Winsor: The Fox News website is more realistic – they show 264 to 214.
