Oh my, aside from all the real issues Joe and Kamala will need to deal with, this seems like the time to sucker the R’s into getting rid of the two-term limit. We will say if Trump gets to run in 2024, then we need to allow Obama to go against him. Can you imagine the ratings? It will be the ultimate match.
Trump will be incapacitated or dead by then, and while I don’t want Obama to block another Biden term of the first Kamala term, maybe Obama could do his third term in 15 to 20 years.

Real talk, I doubt Trump is even going to still be alive in 2024.

It’s a pretty full time job if you take it seriously. Yes, the legislature is only in session in the fall/winter but actually running executive branch agencies across a state as vast as Alaska is a full time job. As I’ve said many times, I think Trump’s followers will bolt when he ceases to be president. He will not only no longer be white supremacy’s champion, he will have been the man who lost the war. I do acknowledge that it is possible he’ll keep them with him on the prospect of a 2024 run, because they have never had such a perfect ideal of themselves to provide validation. I’m betting strongly against it, but it could happen.
There is zero chance of a dynasty. None of his spawn or Kushner can deliver the whiny, ranting, ignorant, racist asshole schtick that is Trump’s brand of charisma. @Kent: That makes sense. I’m remembering as well that she wasn’t a horrible governor before getting her chance in the spotlight, but I just also feel like I read back then that the Alaska governorship wasn’t that hard.
Of course, as with many things, it’s at least partially what you make of it, so Palin probably just ignored a bunch of the mundane duties, just like Dump has as Preznit. @mrmoshpotato: Well, we’ve established that the Emoluments Clause is really just there for the poetry, so why not also the term limits?

I am warming to the idea of a Jaime Harrison or similar purple/red state experienced heading the DNC. With 70+ million cultists out there we need people used to operating against adversity. I would hope that we could change the DNC from being a fundraising and convention coordinator to being a voter registration and turnout coordinator. If we focus on increasing our turnout then the clear choice is Stacey Abrams. She is the gold standard for showing the path forward in a divided country with such systemic disadvantage for Democrats.

@geg6: All I know is this – Fetterman’s tweet to Texas’ abominable Lt Gov Patrick:
Shit, he could ride that anti-Cowboys sentiment PAST the White House in 2024/8/32 ;)
sdhays
@ByRookorbyCrook: I think Stacy Abrams could pretty much have that job if she wanted it. But I’m pretty sure she wants to be governor of Georgia.
And it looks like she’s going to make that happen.

@frosty:
Dude has the Braddock zip code tattooed on one arm and on the other the names of every citizen in Braddock who was murdered while he was mayor. He still lives there and refused the mansion that comes with the job. They use it for charity only. When he finished grad school, he went looking for a small town in PA that he thought he could do some good in as an activist. He picked Braddock and has never left. He’s the real deal.

“Minute for minute the funniest cartoon ever made!” (Those who’ve seen it know that’s true & why.)
When I was somewhere in the 25-35 age group, it used to show up about once a year in Nth-run theaters along with King of Hearts as the feature flick and a cartoon version of Lenny Bruce’s “Thank You Masked Man” as the other short subject.

@sdhays: She can write her own ticket at this point to wherever she wants. She had Joe’s ear in February and pulled off what many considered improbable, Georgia can turn blue. Considering the monumental stack of injustice against her run two years ago, to turn out the Georgia Machine that is Fair Fight for this election’s sweetest victory is phenomenal. I know she has a personal timeline to where she will be in a decade or so. I don’t know that she needs to stop off in the Georgia Governor’s Mansion to get there
Abrams plans to be president in 20 years.

Honestly, any executive level job isn’t really all that hard if you have good staff and you follow their lead. Palin had that and basically did the normal stuff so she didn’t look that bad on paper which is what fooled the McCain team. Turned out she was an empty suit.
I expect a lot of GOP governor and senators are basically like that. Bush was like that too. He just basically did the bidding of the neocons and followed their leads. Nothing like what Trump does.

@Suzanne: My immediate reaction was “does he have some hitherto unknown control of the universe that we are not aware of?” At 74, with potential complications of COVID, how is he so confident about where he’ll be in 2024? I guess being a narcissist makes it impossible to even contemplate the end.
Sab
@ByRookorbyCrook: I hope she stays in Georgia. She could well win office next time. We need to stop moving successful people out of their home states to a national stage. E.g. Sherrod Brown does great “stuck in” Ohio. He is happy and we are happy. Mayor Pete probably needs to move national. Obviously the same is true for Jaime Harrison. SC you had your opportunity and you blew it.

I’m completely cool with GOP making a deal to let Donnie run the party if that will get him out of the WH. Everything he touches dies anyway. If he spends whatever time he has left sucking donations away from GOP campaigns and traveling around doing tent revivals for Cult45 at least he will be out of the way. I mean, is the media going to cover this mess once he loses the trappings of the WH? I doubt it. It will be the longest, saddest farewell tour ever. We’ll probably have to endure a decade or two of Trump impersonators competing for stage time in Vegas with the few remaining Elvis and Carrot Top impersonators. In fifty years we’ll be celebrating the 100th anniversary of moon walk. Donnie will barely be a footnote in histories about one of the worst pandemics in US history. He has never had any staying power. In another 6 months his former loyal supporters will be cursing him for tying up traffic when he blows into town.

@Kent: Oh, definitely. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of Republicans at the state legislature, Congressional, or state executive levels who actually really do much of anything on their own initiative can be counted on a single hand at this point. Members of state legislatures just take legislation written by ALEC and other lobbyists. Congress just does what Fox and ALEC tell them to do, mostly filtered through the leadership. And governors just make sure they get plenty of time on Fox so that they don’t get primaried.
You can even extend this across the pond since it’s pretty clear BoJo doesn’t do much of his own work either.

@Sebastian: I have no doubt that Jared is into sick shit, and I agree that he’s a sadist in his business life, but he seems like the kind of dude who compensates by submitting.

@Uncle Cosmo: Absolutely. Running for Alaska governor was always just a stepping stone to getting noticed, at least by fancy lobbying firms or the wingnut welfare train. I think it’s pretty telling that she ended up in Arizona. Not NYC for the media market. Not Jackson Hole. She went to the desert. It suggests to me she hated Alaska and wanted almost the complete opposite of it.

What’s really amazing is how even swing district Republicans won’t recognize Biden’s election:
51% He just called a little less than half the voters in his district liars and cheaters- seems like someone could use this against him in 2022 especially as the regime hunkers down in the White House week after week, becoming more and more unhinged with each passing day.
Is there any guarantee this works out politically for Republicans? Maybe they’re all just planning not to recognize it if they lose so they’re no longer worried about getting elected.
How many Republican House members are there in Biden majority or near-majority districts? Maybe some good can come from this after all.

My kid had opioid addiction. Like every other addict he could beat it if given the chances, which took about five chances. Pretty typical. Pay for that much treatment and you might get results.
After his five chances he has been clean for many years. Breaks my heart about the one chance kids.

@eddie blake: As my Dad likes to point out: Democrats were supposedly able to orchestrate a massive fraud with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of votes, across several wildly different states in order to secure Biden’s victory, but failed to deliver the Senate and lost seats in the House.
I suppose it’s like the Devil sprinkling hundred million year old fossils around the planet to trick the faithful into doubting that the world sprung into creation only 6000 years ago – we sacrificed the Senate to trick people into thinking Biden’s win was legitimate.

He is a sniveling cruel little piece of shit and he doesn’t have the courage to do it out in the open. He gets off by being cruel. I am quite confident he tortured animals as kid.
He evicts people in the winter in a pandemic, that tells me a lot already. This sick fuck gets off by torturing people he perceives below him or not deserving.
I can see him watching a black man get tortured to death. He could never do it himself, too much of a coward, bit he would tell someone in great detail what to do. Tell me I am wrong.

@Kay: Bob Good will probably be a one term congressman. The VA5th was drawn to be a republican district, but he won it by less than 4 points. The 5th will be redrawn neutrally for the 2022 election. I am hoping that Good’s Campbell County and Cameron Webb’s Albemarle are still in the same district, for a rematch. Webb has a bright political future ahead of him. Virginia Republicans used to benefit from a dropoff in Democratic turnout in our off year state elections and congressional midterms. But Democrats had strong turnout since 2016, and I think they will keep it up.

@Suzanne:
I read recently that Ivanka sees in Jared the character that Christian Bale played in American Psycho.
Apparently, when asked what he used for inspiration when preparing for the role, Christian said that he was channeling Donald Trump.
So, that would mean that Ivanka has some serious, serious, SERIOUS daddy issues.
Big surprise.

@Sebastian:
He doesn’t particularly hide his cruelty, either. See stories like the downplaying a disease that affects blue states. But it’s a blandly self-absorbed callousness, neither omnipresent nor repressed. Jared’s overwhelming personality trait is self-absorbed entitlement. What he’s into is something simple and physical that maximizes his sensations of pleasure. Could just be receiving oral sex. He lacks the psychological complexity or awareness of others to have emotional kinks like BDSM.
