@WaterGirl: I believe they can trademark Parler but not parlor. The WSJ has an article claiming the Mercers are behind it. There may be some story about a younger Mercer marrying a Russian but I don’t have a WSJ subscription.
@Steve from Mendocino: That’s from their website. I’ll take a photo when mine come up in the spring, and we’ll see how well I do then!

While trimming back the lemon grass, especially the dead thatch, I began to ask myself why tRump supporters and Rethuglicans in general hate the US government, the Constitution, and elections? Gore fought the results in one state and that one state was veeeery close. trump is fighting several states that are for Biden by much bigger margins than the Gore-W margin in Florida. trump supporters are protesting the VOTE on the streets of DC. The women’s march protested against tRump, proudly wearing thousands of pink pussy hats. They protested the kind of person he is, not the system of elections. So, serious question, why do Republicans hate America?

@Baud: A day or 2 ago I read that the law firm working for his campaign in PA asked the court’s permission to withdraw from the case there. I don’t know why.
@Baud: Were those lawyers not paying attention before? Say, for the past 5 years? They were stupid enough to get into bed with Dump, I hope they are shunned by good clients everywhere.
Is that the firm that included David Boisse? (sp?) Because I read a story in the Washington Post earlier this evening where he came out and said that he represented Bush in Bush v. Gore, and this is nothing like that, and there is no role for the courts here, and it’s time to admit that Biden won.
If he’s associated with the group you’re talking about, maybe they are trying to buy some of their credibility back.
edit: It does appear to be the same group.

Georgia newspapers have coordinated election coverage.
This is a good thing.
Georgia’s hand-recount of votes cast in the 2020 presidential election is underway. In order to observe this historic undertaking, several of Georgia’s newspapers are collaborating to provide you with a statewide view. The Athens Banner-Herald, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Augusta Chronicle, The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, The Macon Telegraph and The Savannah Morning News will share their collective work with you until the recount is complete.
Campaign officials described the episode as disastrous, saying it scared off many of the lawyers they spent months recruiting, who now no longer wanted to be involved. With the campaign already facing exceedingly long odds in its recount efforts, there are widespread concerns within Trumpworld and GOP circles that Giuliani’s antics are thwarting the president’s legal machinery from within.
“I can’t imagine that a rational person” in the general public “wouldn’t be adversely affected by the way he conducts himself,” said Barry Richard, who represented George W. Bush in the 2000 Florida recount.
Resistance to contact tracing is wearing down volunteers. Given the current growth rate tracing may be moot soon anyway, at least until we get things under control. but this is a bad sign for public cooperation. Twitter thread link
I see that TV shows are starting to come back as of this week, on several networks. I find myself wondering how they were able to shoot the shows safely.
I am happy to see them, though, since the weather has turned cold I won’t be seeing any of my real friends, so at least I will have my imaginary TV friends to keep me company.
Moms and dads in Missouri set up a Homecoming dance at a local Inn and kept it secret. Now the small county is seeing a stark uptick in Covid cases.
Kate Brown is ready to issue serious fines and jail times for unauthorized group gatherings. It’s only gonna get worse while Trump remains in office.
Oh, and Pelosi has cancelled the indoor banquet to welcome new members following the backlash.
And speaking of TV shows. I had never really watched the West Wing before and now I’m binge watching if only to remind myself that we may get a chance to see basic competency again.

Garden girl got her big shipment of bulbs and is now distributing them!
And I’m sure somebody has already answered this, but I’ll just leave it here anyway. Boies
ETA: Boies and Olsen wrote an op-ed together in the WaPo to say this is nothing like Bush-Gore. ETA: And it’s probably Olson but I’m too lazy to check.
Occurred to me you might appreciate a Russian TV serialization of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel The White Guard, available on Prime. Fairly reeks of the renowned Russian dolefulness.
Fair warning: the scattered bits of anti-Semitism depicted is tough to stomach.
@Omnes Omnibus: I could be wrong about this, but don’t believe David Bossie is actually a lawyer. His Wikipedia page says he dropped out of university to pursue a career in politics. And he has had an extremely political career, being as how he’s the fellow heading up Citizens United which gave us essentially unlimited money in politics.
@BruceFromOhio: I don’t think you’re being a pest. I really want the calendars to be order-able by Dec 1. Which means we need to get it done before then, because after the screwup at Cafe Press last year, we’d like to be able to order one of each and hold them in our hot little hands and make sure they are right before we open them up for ordering.
Remember last year, when Cafe Press cancelled everyone’s orders? It took me 13 calls to Cafe Press (I counted!) to get it all worked out. Hoping to avoid anything like that this year. Not that it wasn’t fun. :-)

@WaterGirl: Fun fact: the word “parlor” in English was originally where you went to talk (to visitors in particular), derived from the French parler (infinitive of the verb “to speak”).
