Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Giving up is unforgivable.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Republicans in disarray!

Everybody saw this coming.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Late Friday Night Open Thread: #PizzaGaetz, the Gift That Keeps on Giving

This post is in: Republican Stupidity, Republican Venality, Republicans in Disarray!, Assholes, Schadenfreude

Why are there no GOP in Disarray process stories rn? The #PizzaGaetz stuff is obviously an establishment GOP hitjob, and likely just the first Of many Trumper scalps, so why aren’t we hearing more about it from that angle?

If this were happening Dems it’s all we’d hear about.

I can't believe everyone is judging Matt Gaetz when these websites *clearly* state that any money exchanged is for time and companionship only.

— James Palmer (@BeijingPalmer) April 2, 2021

how could anyone have known about the shady sex Matt Gaetz was actively telling people about, showing people pictures of, hinting at in posts, writing about in his book, and making evident via trackable cash app transfers

no i think that's actually the texttext tbh https://t.co/mY5MhIf0h3

the speed with which fellow Republicans have leapt to bury Matt Gaetz because they hate him as a colleague leads me to the unfortunate conclusion that Ted Cruz's private life must be ethically spotless.

So I just had an amazing thought.

The press loves the mosh-pit American-wrestling bullshit so much, turn it on themselves.

Set a two tiered press pool. Press members have to compete for talking to the official press pool. Allow minor (blogger/ minor city) to compete. Publish ranking (Along with clips) on the secondary press pool. Along lines of “time” and “quality of questions” for interfacing with the administration. All secondary press pool questions are available online in full.

Top tier can ask questions on live TV, bottom tier have to write in.

A lot of the old (generally bad) media giants need to learn that they are not all that.

Ah, elegantly put together A.L., thank you. So, do I understand correctly that there is a metaphorical box full of young women interns, office help and so on who are suddenly finding out that they were merely chips, or pawns, in some boys sex games?  If true I wonder when the lid is going to blow off that? After a few of them talk amongst themselves? Were the boys counting on the girls keeping quiet out of embarrassment or fear for their positions — ahem, I’ll leave that word stand– if they did find out? Ever so many questions about this show. Much popcorn is called for.

Former President Donald Trump’s advisors have strongly urged him not to publicly defend GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz who is currently facing a sex crimes investigation, the Daily Beast reported Friday.

Trump has reportedly spent the last week watching the “Gaetzgate” scandal unfold from afar while consulting several advisors about what he should do about one of his most loyal allies.

According to two people familiar with the matter, Trump thinks the allegations against the Florida Republican seem “really bad” but also believes they could be a “smear,” the Daily Beast reported.

Nevertheless, Trump’s confidants have firmly said he should keep quiet on the matter— a recommendation the former president appeared to ultimately agree with.
