Many great memories from some of these, especially Elysian Park, but never been to or even heard of the Trona Pinnacles, even having been up and down I-395 any number of times.

@Mary G: Trona Pinnacles is a bit southeast of Ridgecrest.

Very cool. I especially like the first pinnacle shot.

I’m so glad Water Girl kept the photo series going, after Alain’s death. It’s the first site that I look at in the morning. The pictures are wonderful, and it might be time to put CA on my bucket list. It’s been over thirty years, since my last visit.

Wonderful, thanks!

I too have never been to the Trona Pinnacles. Now I think I need to go there!
Thanks for these gorgeous shots!

@JPL: I hope you have a very large bucket because CA really has more great places/sights than we feel like we will ever be able to fully cover (and we live here). You could probably spend a whole year just doing our major parks (Yosemite, King’s Canyon, Sequoia, Redwoods, Lassen, Joshua Tree, Death Valley etc.). It’s almost overwhelming at times. We stick mostly to the Eastern Sierra for our vacations and yet we feel like we’ll be lucky to just see even half of the great hikes/campsites in just that area alone.
Totally agree on OTR. Very glad we have this place to share our pix and fantasy travel. It’s a really great calm spot in an otherwise stormy world. When I’m getting irritated/stressed etc. (which since 2016 has been pretty much non-stop) I often cruise over here to try and reduce my blood from a boil down to a much healthier simmer!

Great photo set, thanks. Chain link fence as art, who knew?
Am also grateful for the continuation of Alain’s brain-child. He was a mensch also, and I know it’s a lot of work, but what a gift to all the Jackals of Balloon-Juice. I know far more people visit to see these photos than ever comment, but I feel a need to support the people who make the time to contribute.
We’ve been all over the world with this, and time traveled some as well. This is one part of Balloon-Juice that takes mass participation to work as well as it does, so thanks is due to everyone involved.

They’re all so beautiful and enticing, it’s hard to pick a favorite. But I want to put a special word in for the way the clouds follow the profile of the palm trees in the last one. So lucky that Kody was there to see, frame, and capture it!
