I’m not going to embed a Tucker Carlson YouTube, but here’s a link. Basically, Tucker’s interviewing a former member of the New York Sheriff’s Department and a former Corrections Warden, Ed Gavin, who says some sensible things about Floyd’s murder, and Tucker mocks him by laughing while simultaneously shitting himself in a hurry to get Gavin off of his show.
What Tucker’s bookers didn’t understand is that the NY Sheriff’s Department is a force of 150 that does mostly civil enforcement. They’ve been key in shutting down bars and clubs that weren’t following New York COVID rules. I’ll bet they thought Gavin was NYPD.

Tucker doesn’t convey typical human expression in proportional response to the situation before him. I have seen several clips where one of his “friendly” guests makes a “trigger the libs” type joke (admittedly often very dumb), and rather than chuckle along, or even crack a smile, Tucker’s face just stays dumbfounded, as if his neurons are still processing the literal meaning of the words.
TBH, most of these guys–Hannity, Shapiro, etc.–rarely smile or laugh on camera, even when it would be appropriate to do so. It’s really strange. There is a segment out on YouTube where Bill O’Reilly had Jon Stewart on, and Stewart was absolutely killing it. You could hear the production crew on the set busting up hysterically. O’Reilly just sat there stone faced.

A lot of political stories came out of the November 2018 elections. One out of North Carolina: African-American Sheriffs were elected in four counties never before having had a Black Sheriff. A couple of the counties were among the most populous in the state.
I never followed this story up to see how it’s gone for these trailbreakers. It would be easy enough to, though, as Sheriffs tend to be in local and state news a lot. I guess they will be up for reelection next year.

O’Reilly was a polite white supremacist, though, the kind John Stewart could be friends with, who phrased things in less hateful terms. “This is the end of the White Establishment in America” for example, when Obama won reelection.
EDIT – No, I will never, ever forgive John Stewart for using his interview with Barack Obama to blame Obama for the partisan tone in Washington and declare Senate gridlock proof that Obama failed to bring ‘change’. It was the only thing Stewart would talk about. People talk here about revealing character – well, Stewart revealed his character, and it was ugly.

I don’t know if this has appeared in another thread already. Merrick Garland was on television this morning announcing that DOJ would launch an investigation into the practices of the Minneapolis police force. This is separate from its investigation into the Floyd case. It can be read as an announcement that the department is back in the business of investigating systemic police misconduct. That was deliberately stopped under Trump, but many of the Obama-era lawyers who worked on those investigations will reportedly be back, starting with Vanita Gupta, who should be confirmed today.

Once upon a time, Carlson was sorta-rational. But, very plainly, he chose to dive off the deep end. The Murdochs must have made it clear to him that they wanted a lunatic (i.e., an Alex Jones) in their top slot. However, the Murdochs are ruthless, so if it does look too much like Carlson is losing it, there will be trouble for Tucker down the line.

Somewhat related…what are y’all’s thoughts on the Columbus death of Ma’khia Bryant? I basically never give cops the benefit of the doubt and teens certain can act irrationally. And her death is tragic. But they seem to have released the full body cam footage and if she did, indeed, have a knife in her hand, it’s very hard to say the cop was 100% wrong. It’s extremely tragic and sad but, again, if there was a knife, do you let the wielder stab the person right in front of her or do you do something about it?
I don’t want a tragic, sad yet maybe justifiable scenario to muddy the waters by pairing it with the many other incidents – many in just the last month or so – where it was 100% clear that what the cops did was wrong, wrong, wrong.

@dww44:
they are only panicked when it’s a Black person. A White person can do anything pretty much, include attack them, and they don’t get panicked.
The Pale Scot
That’s really not easy. even if they’re just feet away. And in this case, the woman being attacked is behind the attacker. Which means even if you hit an arm or leg most likely it goes thru and hits her, or it ricochets and hits someone else.
The problem is that the police are being issued hollow point ammo which expands as it goes thru the body causing terrible damage. Ball ammo, which the military uses (because the idea is to cause wounds that require others to give medical treatment, taking them out of the fight also) should be issued. But in this case, again the attackee is behind the attacker, there’s no good options here.

Tucker’s HS yearbook shows that he was a racist homophobe clear back in High School, and is only more so now as a 51 year old adult. I’m not sure why he would be reluctant to have that come out, as he is obviously both a racist and a homophobe on national cable TV every day.
It would make it hard to run for office in many places, though. I would hope.

Tucker Carlson’s take on the Chauvin guilty verdict, in a Fox opinion column he wrote, amounted to:
Carlson of course makes no mention that the jury was likely very strongly influenced by clear video of Chauvin suffocating the life out of a subdued, nonresistant Floyd.
