Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

During early COVID time, when he was getting lots of positive attention, Andrew Cuomo didn’t mind having reporters at this events and press conferences, all masked and socially distanced, of course. Now that the news has come out that he harassed a bunch of women and had aides help him with his book, this:

Amid myriad scandals that threaten his future as governor, Cuomo has barred reporters from attending his public events in recent months, citing ongoing COVID-19 safety protocols.

Instead, he answers questions from the media via Zoom at some, but not at all events. And by using Zoom instead of having in-person reporters, it allows his staff to handpick the journalists and limit follow-up questions.

[…] For his part, Cuomo said he is simply following state guidelines that bars large gatherings. He contended that reporters could overwhelm the spaces where he attends events.

“When will reporters be back in the room? That is purely a function of the COVID safety requirements,” Cuomo said Tuesday when asked about the restrictions.

I’ve got nothing deeply insightful to add — I just thought that Cuomo’s ability to say that limiting reporters was a COVID thing is hi-fucking-larious, especially considering that probably everyone at those gatherings is fully vaccinated.

I have no skin in the game..
Cuomo seems like an arrogant azzhole….
    but, is that impeachable?
My thing about all these folks…they come out of the woodwork and head for a tv camera…
But, don’t seem in a hurry to make it to AG James’s Office to go UNDER OATH.
You can sense my skepticism about them…..

WTF, NY Democrats? You elect some terrible people. I would have wanted to run his ass out of state on a rail way back when he conspired with Republicans to keep them in charge of the state legislature. Example two is Andrew Yang polling first for NYC mayor, although his meeting with LGBLT folks did not go well according to my twitters.

Nobody listens to us New Yorkers. We TOLD you America’s Mayor was not all that, but everyone else needed too actually watch him campaign in 2008 before they said to themselves “Wait a minute …. This guy’s an asshole”. We told anyone who listen “Trump is a nothing – he’s not even actually rich in any meaningful way” – no one cared.

Cuomo mania came, and we were all “It’s nice that he’s doing his job, but this guy is a serious arrogant f***ing asshole” – no one ever listens.

Now, I’ll agree that NY Dems do some dumb stuff, but I’m not going to take a poll this far out seriously.  That said, Yang certainly showed that he has the retail political skills of a high-tech dork (i.e., none) at that meeting.

Fixed that.  That was unforgivable.  The one positive about his current scandal is that it means he can’t run for president in 2024, which i suspect he planned to do, what with how he “redeemed” himself with his handling of covid.

Andrew Yang, the 2020 Democratic presidential contender who is running for mayor of New York City, lost the endorsement of a prominent LGBTQ political group Thursday.

In an interview Wednesday night with the Stonewall Democratic Club of NYC, an influential LGBTQ political group, Yang offended members with his remarks.

“It was like he never met a gay person his life, even though he kept reminding us people on his staff were gay,” filmmaker Harris Doran, who attended the endorsement meeting as a member, said Thursday. “It was like tokenizing us.”

He added, “We’re involved, smart people, and you can’t show up like you haven’t studied for the exam.”

@Baud: TNR story from 2017: How Andrew Cuomo Profits From a Republican Senate.

On January 25, four days after demonstrators flooded the streets of Washington, D.C., to protest the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, Jose Peralta, a Democratic state senator from Queens, New York, defected from his party. He became the eighth Democratic member of what is known as the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC), a breakaway faction that caucuses with Republicans in the New York Senate, effectively giving the GOP a majority in a chamber that voters have all but decided should be in Democratic control. Days later,

Peralta faced a town hall full of angry constituents and protesters who chanted, “Traitor! Traitor!”

They are mad as hell, and with good reason. At a time when New York should be leading the progressive charge against a Republican-controlled federal government, it is members of the Democratic Party who are holding the state back. And to the everlasting frustration of the party, the state’s Democratic governor, the aloof and enigmatic Andrew Cuomo, appears more than happy to live with this arrangement—all while telegraphing his presidential ambitions.

The article casts Andrew Cuomo as a passive participant, but I’ve read many stories claiming that he was the lead actor who ordered or agreed with Peralta to do this to take away Democratic power in the legislature and make sure nothing too progressive passed. The motive was to set up a presidential campaign as a moderate who could work across the aisle.

MM or another NYer can explain it better, as I am just an observer across the country. I had a hard time finding this article, because all his mentions are about his current mess.

    Reuters:

Use of Johnson & Johnson’s (JNJ.N) COVID-19 vaccine should be resumed in the United States, advisers to U.S. health regulators said on Friday, after weighing evidence of the shot’s link to extremely rare but potentially deadly blood clots.

The recommendation paves the way for J&J’s shot to begin going into arms again in the United States, once they are confirmed by regulators.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration paused its use last week in order to review reports of the blood clot condition accompanied by low blood platelets.

The FDA will update the emergency use authorization for the vaccine to include information about the risk and how to recognize and treat the condition, J&J executives told the panel.

Top U.S. health officials have said they hope for a quick return of the convenient one-shot vaccine following the panel meeting.

“The benefits do clearly outweigh the risk from a population and individual perspective,” said Dr. Beth Bell, a member of the advisory panel and a clinical professor in the department of global health at the University of Washington in Seattle.

“It’s a new risk. It’s admittedly an extremely small risk and smaller than many other risks that we choose to take every day,” she added.

The panel voted 10-4 to reaffirm that the J&J COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for use in people 18 years of age and older. One member abstained from the vote.

    […]

Good, good, as long as physicians are able to recognize the very rare complications and how to treat them successfully.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: I’m not saying there aren’t “tech entrepreneurs” with tech chops, just that it’s unnecessary.

And yeah, I didn’t know that Yang had no tech background, just entrepreneurship.

Does Yang put himself forth as a tech entrepreneur or just an entrepreneur, and it’s our racism that assumes the Asian entrepreneur must be a tech guy?

It’s a scam….we at the USPS don’t send emails either, and neither does FedEx….I don’t know how the other two do it, but we leave paper notices in the mailbox or on your door….no one emails

@Searcher: A lot of Asian Americans are unhappy with his views on Asian American identity.

And he’s blown off a lot of relatively prominent Asian American bloggers and pundits.

@gwangung: Yang as mayor has made me remember this recurrent notion: After a successful 8-10 years in the House, AOC comes home and runs for  mayor.

@topclimber: After a successful 8-10 years in the House, AOC comes home and runs for mayor.

two questions: when do those start?
and: do the rest of us have to wait that long?

I had AOC slotted for the open NY senate seat right after Gillibrand takes a cabinet post in the Kamala Harris administration.

I know the thread is on it’s last legs, but not appropriate to post in the respite thread.

Just found out another trans woman was murdered last night, not far from where I live. Stabbed in the neck and multiple times in the chest.

She was only 23. Rest in Power, Natalia Smüt (her stage name, don’t know her muggle name).

I didn’t know her personally, but she was a friend of several my friends. She was also a drag performer (yes, there’s trans people who also perform drag), and performed in some of the same shows I’ve done (although I don’t think I ever shared a stage with her).

While statistically I’m quite safe (being white, middle class, etc. etc.) it still strikes close to home.

Pretty sure everybody here listened to NYers about those guys. Pretty sure millions all over America did, too.

You know who didn’t listen? The New York Times.

@rikyrah: how old is she now? I really am hoping/expecting Pfizer to be approved for 12-15 year olds soon. 5 weeks till fully vaccinated….the later part of the summer is promising for kids.

    @Ruckus:

I just got an email from someone saying they are UPS wanting me to update my address because they couldn’t deliver a package.

I get fishing emails on a regular basis, like this:

“Your account has been associated with other accounts engaging in illegal or misleading behavior. In order to maintain your current account with us, click here  to update your payment information!”

Of course all they want is a credit card number. Amazon, Yahoo, Google are some of the institutions they mask as. And it can draw even a sophisticated web user in for a moment!
