Sad! One might have pity on these people, but since they are such assholes, fuck them and the horses they rode in on.

It makes my eyes puddle seeing these great leaders fallen. So sad. So sad.

Based on the experience of Madame Tussauds, I think the chuck e. cheese character would get punched more, but I suppose this is still pretty good.

Actual conversation that I had today in a shoe store:
Me: Do you sell shoelaces here?
Sales clerk #1: (Goes to fetch sales clerk #2.)
Me: Do you sell shoelaces here?
Sales clerk #2: Shoelaces?
Me: Yes, shoelaces.
Sales clerk #2: (Lightbulb goes on.) Oh, shoelaces! (Thinks hard.) No.
mrmoshpotato
@Amir Khalid: Laceless shoes! So that’s why they gave you a free pair of socks!

Which prompts an inquiring minds want to know question.
Which coin do other countries insert into penny loafers?

Amir Khalid
@mrmoshpotato:
Red Wing Beckmans come with flat waxed laces, which I don’t like. But my only spare bootlaces are bright yellow/brown, and they make my new dark brown boots look clownish. I needed black laces.
Lord, why me? All I wanted was a pair of black bootlaces.
Amir Khalid
@NotMax:
Come on. Nobody outside America wears coin-operated shoes.
opiejeanne
@Amir Khalid: That made me laugh.
Dan B
@mrmoshpotato: I got a pair of lace up sneakers a couple weeks ago. I liked them so much I bought another pair. The laces are built in so they’re slip on sneakers. Who knew?
I bought a pair for my partner who needs arch support. He wears them a lot.
Interesting note: My father had patents for the first soft rubber heels and soles back when they didn’t last long and were only on cheap sneakers. They lasted longer than leather, which was considered the only durable choice. He developed chemistries for making heels and soles in many different colors plus transparent.

I must have missed something. Who are “… all these Republican pedophiles” the Frances Langum account is asking about?
Ceci n est pas mon nym
@Procopius: Joel Greenberg, Matt Gates, Josh Duggar, … Probably more. Is Falwell in that list?
Frankensteinbeck
Have I mentioned that Trump is a has-been? He’s getting the table scraps of the Republican Party now, despite McCarthy and Gaetz worshipping him.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Frankensteinbeck:
I seem to recall you mentioning that.
Frankensteinbeck
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
It takes a lot of repetition to build a Conventional Wisdom.
Frankensteinbeck
My god, the Republicans really are eating their own. Tucker went after Frank Luntz and Twitter is swarming with hate for Luntz because Luntz thinks vaccination is good, and doesn’t think that the real crime of 1/6 is that rioter getting shot.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Frankensteinbeck: I keep on telling y’all, Tucker’s running for President.
Frankensteinbeck
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Oh, I find that entirely likely. He doesn’t have what Trump had, though. He can bring in the white supremacists and the truly insane hate freaks, but he doesn’t inspire the misogynists or the Your Racist Uncle block. He’s not stupid or petty enough. The misogynists in particular were a vastly important few percentage points that normally don’t vote Republican and Trump added. The hardcore white supremacists aren’t primary voters, either.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Frankensteinbeck: Remember the Republican primaries are winner take all after the first few, whoever wins the first few and builds momentum will have the inside track, just like TFG.
David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
of which country?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: The US.
Frankensteinbeck
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Sure, but again, Tucker’s core are the extreme racists and loons who don’t get involved in the party. The ones who think the Republican establishment isn’t conservative enough. That’s not where you want your support in the primaries. Also, like TFG relied on Twitter, Carlson relies on his show. Campaigning will take him off of it. Too many of his supporters don’t tune in for speeches, they watch TV. He’s the Republican Sanders, but even more so. His supporters froth at the mouth, but they’re too busy screaming to do the work of electing him.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Frankensteinbeck: TFG was the total package, Tucker’s maybe 2/3’s, but don’t count him out. A lot of folk counted out TFG, how’d that work out?
Also, keep in mind, TFG wasn’t the party’s pick early on, that was probably Jeb!.
Frankensteinbeck
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
I don’t know about the others, but I knew the evangelical base would adore Trump. They love stupidity, pettiness, and corruption. Now, they also like screaming Hitler hate, but like you said, Carlson is 2/3rds Trump, and that isn’t enough. And everyone who hated Trump will be just as horrified when they see Carlson up close. I don’t think he can pull it off, and I think the impossibility of doing his show and campaigning will in particular be a giant anchor sinking his main strength. But, it is very, very early. We’ll just have to see. I do agree he’s trying to snap up the Trump base, presumably for political ambitions.
David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
of America?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Frankensteinbeck: One thing, and not just the TFG base, wants in someone running for office is no political experience. They see that as corrupting, they want a man of the people. I’ve seen it here in California, that’s why we have term limits. Citizen politicians!
You’d think that the sucess Biden has had so far would dispel that Idea, or here in California with Chairman Jerry, but nope.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: Yeah, that one.
Chris Johnson
It’s eerie to see how TFG is just the same as he ever was. Maybe a little more deflated, maybe not even that. It was never about that guy, it was about him being used as a puppet.
Which means keep an eye out for other puppets, but it’s also real interesting to see how weak and helpless the guy really is. You’d think there would at least be crowds of Proud Boys or something. I see that he’s still useful to Putin as he’d be very easy to hurt in his current scenario: maybe this IS him being hurt, but I think it’s more complicated than that.
Sloane Ranger
@Dan B:
Well, if we’re doing parental related footwear boasts, my father was a member of a team that designed and made individually fitted boots for an elephant. They were for a 1960s expedition to retrace Hannibal’ crossing of the Alps. One of the boots he clicked is in our local museum.
Dan B
@Sloane Ranger: Uncle, I scream Uncle! Yours definitely is the topper!
Did he get to go over the Alps with the hefalumph? Asking for a friend.
BTW Awake from a long involved dream(s?) with a magic filled quest by a young guy to answer questions not revealed in his epic dream about the moon and other things revealing where he was to move to succeed at something like running for president. Turned ugly when I was identified as the whirlwind by a wide plastic bowl mysteriously spinning and lifting into the windless air. Then our orange cat began to bite me painlessly but viciously. Got ugly quick. Time to roam the web and distract from the creepy feeling. Reading about Covid Variants in India should distract. /s
BTW No company believed that soft heels and soles would be durable or marketable. They were introduced after the patents expired. Now hard leather soles are rare.
I hope there was better success with elephant shoes.

@Amir Khalid: Inconceivable!

Funny, I could have sworn Dad told me it happened in the 1960s, still 1959 is pretty close. I remember being taken to see the boot in the museum when I was 6 or 7 and can still see the look of pride on Dad’s face.
