The New York state plan is now officially that any big outdoor event will have tightly packed “vaccinated” sections, and loosely packed “unvaccinated” sections. My guess is that the latter will be very small, because if I’m an event promoter/sports team owner, I want to fill my venue/stadium.
To move things along, the big NYC sports teams are going to host vaccination sites and give away tickets to those who get vaccinated:
The not-so-hidden message to Trumpy anti-vaxxers here is, “cry, motherfuckers, cry.”

First comment?!? I think this is the wave of the future. Vaccinated people will get on with their lives and leave the unvaccinated behind at large group venues
ETA: Second!

Question: Is it possible to support people getting vaccinated yet also hate both Cuomo and the Yankees?
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
I love it – “but what about my freedom to get good shit and see neat things with lots of people without a mask or a vaccination? This is America, Goddammit, where every whim of the most eccentric and hateful assholes out there must be tolerated and embraced as baseline conduct.”
Four Seasons Total Landscaping mistermix
@dmsilev:
Well, I do, so yes.
Old School
So families with children have to sit in the unvaccinated section?
Edit: Never mind. I see in the fine print that if they are with a vaccinated adult, children can be in the vaccinated section.
Doc Sardonic
@dmsilev: Yes
dmsilev
@Four Seasons Total Landscaping mistermix: That’s a relief, thank you.
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
@dmsilev:
Doesnt excess Yankee hate only come in three flavors, though? Mets fans, Massholes and Cubbies?
dmsilev
@Old School: The way the Dodgers set up their vaccination section, children are allowed in if they have a recent (72 hour, I think) negative COVID test.
Four Seasons Total Landscaping mistermix
@Old School:
No, children under 16 may sit with their family if the other members of the family are vaxxed.
@dmsilev: It’s different in NY – as long as the adult they’re with is vaccinated, the under-16 kid can attend.
dmsilev
@Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes: I am unfamiliar with the concept of “excess” Yankee hate.

I’m fully vaccinated, but I would much rather sit apart from other people at a sporting event.
The Moar You Know
@Old School: that’s a bonus I had not previously considered. Doubly sold on the idea now.
Any way we can get this applied to movie theaters? The unvaccinated area possibly being both soundproof and airtight? Restaurants as well? Christ, there is just no downside here I’m seeing.
JaneE
We are proposing much the same thing here. It may have been approved already. You can have double the capacity limit if you restrict admission to vaccinated only. How that is enforced and what kind of proof you needed to show was apparently up to the venue. I would like to see something like Excelsior pass, but I don’t think we have a statewide registry of vaccinations. I am sure there would be loud protests from the GOP, but we should have a statewide registry to record status. Whether we ever get there is another question.

@Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes: No, I am a native Floridian and was raised to hate the baseball Yankees. We were taught to smile and wave nicely to the yankees we took the tourist dollars from.
TomatoQueen
@dmsilev: There is a minimal level of Y****** hate, upon arising, then a usual level of same, one has had coffee, then there’s the after-brekky level, and then by lunch there’s the seething-at-the-teeth level. Under ordinary circumstances, that’s just barely sufficient. Now we’re adding Cuomo, so we gotta crank it.
Another Scott
I haven’t read the notice, but I can’t imagine this working very well in practice in a whole lot of places.
What about the concessions and restrooms?
What about the shuttle buses to/from the parking?
I mean it’s great to get the wavering and soft-NOs to be thinking about the benefits of the vaccines – that’s vitally important – but actually trying to segregate masses of people – even in nominally out-doors spaces isn’t really a sensible plan.
“Those of you with the polio vaccine can play in the big pool, the kiddy pool, and ride the slide, while those of you without have to stay in the kiddy pool…” :-/

@Another Scott: Bottom line: the refusers are going to have to be forced into doing this. We don’t have the luxury of letting them stay unvaccinated.
So we can do it the social pressure/privilege way, or the “round ’em up and give them shots by brute force” way. I prefer the first as opposed to the second.

I love the idea of making the unvaccinated section really bad. Like the worst nosebleed section.
I also love the aesthetics of the separation. It will be a potent thing for people. Much of the right wing is still secretly heartbroken that society at large doesn’t think they’re awesome.

Fair Economist
@Facebones:
Like most people. If unvaxxed tickets don’t cost quite a bit more, the unvaxxed pretty much won’t be able to attend events at all, because the vaxxed will fill up the unvaxxed sections. (They are, after all, vaxxed, so the risk is minimal).
Martin
@Another Scott: Doesn’t matter. The policy is designed to collapse the implementation to a specific outcome. It eliminates the venues ability to accommodate the non-vaxxers by either removing some of the revenue potential, or by shifting that cost to the non-vaxxers. These are all nudges to get holdouts to get vaccinated.
So it presents a broad potential scope for implementation that preserves choice but really only one outcome is realistic. The venue is going to limit access for non-vaxxers, the non-vaxxers are going to give in to get access, the venue can’t really be harassed over limiting their access because it’s not their policy.
Ken
Biden and Garland. As I said in an earlier thread, the quickest way to get the full report is to spread an idiot rumor — something like “it shows Hunter Biden’s laptop was used by the Chinese to rig the 2016 election, that’s why Biden won’t release it” would do — and get Fox to amplify it to the point that every GQP in Congress does nothing but call for the report’s release.

Well, tied for the longest since then with 1965-1975. They can beat that one by failing this year.
Ken
Put the unvaccinated in the nosebleed section. Let’s face it, that will probably happen anyway, since those are the cheapest seats and often unoccupied.
Or, if you’re running a bullring, unvaccinated gets sol, vaccinated gets sombra.
