Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

NEW: Cuomo's stadium capacity plan — 100% capacity for vaccinated sections, 33% with social distancing in non-vaccinated — is WAY broader than baseball

It includes ALL large-scale, outdoor event venues, per press release his office just put out. Amphitheaters, race tracks, etc pic.twitter.com/J7olPEJyHr

— Jon Campbell (@JonCampbellGAN) May 5, 2021

The New York state plan is now officially that any big outdoor event will have tightly packed “vaccinated” sections, and loosely packed “unvaccinated” sections. My guess is that the latter will be very small, because if I’m an event promoter/sports team owner, I want to fill my venue/stadium.

To move things along, the big NYC sports teams are going to host vaccination sites and give away tickets to those who get vaccinated:

The not-so-hidden message to Trumpy anti-vaxxers here is, “cry, motherfuckers, cry.”

No, children under 16 may sit with their family if the other members of the family are vaxxed.

We are proposing much the same thing here.  It may have been approved already.  You can have double the capacity limit if you restrict admission to vaccinated only.  How that is enforced and what kind of proof you needed to show was apparently up to the venue.  I would like to see something like Excelsior pass, but I don’t think we have a statewide registry of vaccinations.   I am sure there would be loud protests from the GOP, but we should have a statewide registry to record status.  Whether we ever get there is another question.

I haven’t read the notice, but I can’t imagine this working very well in practice in a whole lot of places.

What about the concessions and restrooms?

What about the shuttle buses to/from the parking?

I mean it’s great to get the wavering and soft-NOs to be thinking about the benefits of the vaccines – that’s vitally important – but actually trying to segregate masses of people – even in nominally out-doors spaces isn’t really a sensible plan.

“Those of you with the polio vaccine can play in the big pool, the kiddy pool, and ride the slide, while those of you without have to stay in the kiddy pool…” :-/

I’m fully vaccinated, but I would much rather sit apart from other people at a sporting event.

Like most people. If unvaxxed tickets don’t cost quite a bit more, the unvaxxed pretty much won’t be able to attend events at all, because the vaxxed will fill up the unvaxxed sections. (They are, after all, vaxxed, so the risk is minimal).

  66. 66.

    Martin

    May 5, 2021 at 5:56 pm

@Another Scott: Doesn’t matter. The policy is designed to collapse the implementation to a specific outcome. It eliminates the venues ability to accommodate the non-vaxxers by either removing some of the revenue potential, or by shifting that cost to the non-vaxxers. These are all nudges to get holdouts to get vaccinated.

So it presents a broad potential scope for implementation that preserves choice but really only one outcome is realistic. The venue is going to limit access for non-vaxxers, the non-vaxxers are going to give in to get access, the venue can’t really be harassed over limiting their access because it’s not their policy.

@catclub: I just want the unredacted version released. Who do I beat up on to get that?

Biden and Garland.  As I said in an earlier thread, the quickest way to get the full report is to spread an idiot rumor — something like “it shows Hunter Biden’s laptop was used by the Chinese to rig the 2016 election, that’s why Biden won’t release it” would do — and get Fox to amplify it to the point that every GQP in Congress does nothing but call for the report’s release.

@Uncle Cosmo: You’ll be pleased to contemplate the fact that the Yankees’ current World Series appearance drought is their longest since 1903-1920

Well, tied for the longest since then with 1965-1975.  They can beat that one by failing this year.

@Suzanne: Can we call it “LEPER ZONE”?

Put the unvaccinated in the nosebleed section. Let’s face it, that will probably happen anyway, since those are the cheapest seats and often unoccupied.

Or, if you’re running a bullring, unvaccinated gets sol, vaccinated gets sombra.

Perfectly reasonable, although at those prices there basically won’t be any unvaccinated sections. Which, perhaps, is the point.
