Could’ve been so much worse…
may you find as much joy in your life as members of the republican party when they are on the precipice of fucking over the most vulnerable among us.

Pond scum.

@John Revolta: The Association for the Prevention of Defamation to Pond Scum (APDPS) will be serving you shortly with a cease and desist order.

Sixers won their seventh straight despite playing down a to a woefully undermanned Pelicans team and the Phillies exploded for six runs in the first and got some excellent pitching from Zack Eflin to whack the Braves 12-2 for their fifth win in a row.
Good sports night.
MomSense
And that’s the moment the Republicans lost the House in 2018.
mrmoshpotato
One can only assume none of these assholes used a single benefit from their government-funded health insurance while they were taking a wrecking ball to the Executive branch because it was their “personal responsibility” to not get sick – or need dental cleanings.
Right?
mrmoshpotato
@MomSense: When they “made mom cry” as bluegal puts it.
Delk
So much incompetence in that room. (Incontinence too, probably).
NotMax
Awaiting the Qballs to start pitching electric green (or yellow or (wait for it) orange) suits for men and either paisley or argyle muumuus for the ladies, the better to identify one another.

@John Revolta:
Pond scum would be about a thousand steps up the ladder for them.
They couldn’t see how to improve to pond scum because pond scum is too far above them on the evolutionary timeline.
They are the radioactive scum that’s left over after an atomic bomb explosion or a nuclear plant meltdown.
They are the worst virus to ever visit the earth, they cause more death and destruction than a pandemic. Hell they are a political pandemic. That’s why they are so pissed about Covid, they wanted to do all the damage.
Ruckus
@Delk:
They did shit on everything. So yes a lot of it.

Some news about the UK
On Thursday, people in England voted in elections for 143 councils, 13 mayors and 35 police and crime commissioners. So far the Conservatives are kicking ass. This is really unfortunate, since the Conservatives are screwing up BREXIT big time. They are corrupt, arrogant and incompetent. But in some interviews I have seen, a common complaint from voters is that they feel that Labour is out of touch, and do not listen to them. The irony of course is that the Tories don’t care about them, but feed them lies and slick slogans.
I hope that we get some insightful comments from jackals who live in the UK.

These people are monsters.

Talk about yer bullet dodged:
Absolutely horrendous. And then a Sheriff shows the gathering crowd the gun this guy was “allegedly” carrying,, but didn’t brandish, as if that was any excuse at all.
HumboldtBlue
@West of the Rockies:
Of course. I thought you knew that.
I commented in an earlier thread about a West Virginia grand-nephew who has a grandad from Fishtown and a grandma from Germantown and who has decided to support the Milwaukee Bucks instead of the East leading 76ers.
Boggles me.

@HumboldtBlue:
No, I just assumed you were a west coaster.
Been awhile since I was last in PA. Although I do enjoy a good IPA!

I’ve lived far longer in California than anywhere else but the Philly roots run deep.

How have the hospital gown providers not yet thought of this? (Not sure I haven’t had one with paisley.)

We would have been India and Brazil if he had won?

Uh huh

Anyone going to FrontPage the story on the undercount of COVID deaths?
How we are probably at 900,000 dead????
Anne Laurie
@rikyrah: I *did* include that story in yesterday’s daily Covid-19 roundup — here’s a direct story link:
New analysis finds global Covid death toll is double official estimates
Mousebumples
@HumboldtBlue: there is a Germantown that’s a Milwaukee suburb, for what it’s worth. ?
And, as a Wisconsinite, #FearTheDeer
I’d add #FearTheBeer, but the Brewers are on like a 6 game losing streak, soooo…
Chetan Murthy
@Anne Laurie: And thare have been stories periodically in the press about undercounting of Covid deaths, both in the US and other countries. For instance, I remember stories about undercounting in NY during the first big surge. About many covid deaths just coded as heart attacks, b/c paramedics never got to them in time, or because patients died and weren’t resuscitated, and were just taken to the morgue, where tests weren’t used to determine if it was Covid (b/c tests were in short supply, and used on the living).
t’s all terrible, but none of this is news.
Sloane Ranger
@Brachiator: The reasons why the Tories did well are varied.
I’m not sure what the answer to all this is. What I do know is that it is not another internal row about more or less socialism. Possibly, more emphasis on sound pragmatic government delivering services to voters?
Cameron
@Chetan Murthy: Here in Florida the gov’t was blowing smoke up everybody’s ass, loudly proclaiming how it had COVID knocked…..and excess deaths were being caused by a mysterious ‘pneumonia’ that – how odd! – couldn’t be found anywhere else in the country. I don’t think this line is being pushed anymore, just bald-faced lies about how great it is to have things open again. Alas, Norwegian Cruise Line appears to be unimpressed with the governor’s executive order banning vaccine passports.
Geminid
Ahh! It’s May 8, the day of the Virginia Republican Disassembled Convention! Up to 53,000 prefiled delegates will converge on 37 meeting sites to vote for candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. “Delegates” will cast ballots with two ranked choices. These ballots will then be carried to a venue in Richmond to be counted, and then weighted according to the Republican presidential vote in the different areas. An convoluted, cumbersome process.
Contrarian, self-described conservative journal Bearing Drift will provide some good reporting on the “convention.” The outcome may not be disclosed for several days. Lawsuits are likely, and could delay a definitive result for weeks.
They could have had the state conduct a primary, but Republican leaders do not trust voters. Their motto could be, “The Virginia Republican Party: Some Assembly Required.”

It was utterly bizarre how they threw a huge party for the vote in the House before any action in the Senate.
Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch…
