Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

All your base are belong to Tunch.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Everybody saw this coming.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Good morning, jackals! It’s the time of year where I see rabbits, and when on every other block there’s a blooming lilac bush. It’s not improving my overall mood, but I’ll still take it.

I don’t necessarily see a rift….but I will say that Democrats are susceptible to the ways in which the Right frames both economic and cultural issues. I think it can suppress turn-out, and the mid terms are vital. I am working with a whip smart New Mexican influencer and what he reports on the ground is a bit worrying. There’s a coalition building to elect Hispanics to office, regardless of qualifications, and some good administrators are at risk. He’s pushing back, but trying to balance his career with his activism, so it requires a delicate touch. Thankfully, he is very well liked.

Satby, I need your expert advice. A momma cat and one kitten  – seems to be about 3 weeks old – have taken up residence under some shrubs next to my house.  I want to make sure they’re OK.  I’ve seen momma cat around for months.  She has always looked well fed.  What should I do?  Should I do anything? I don’t want to spook momma cat.  Should I put out food? Water?  Most important, at what age can I swoop up the kitten and bring it inside!  Any  help much appreciated.

Speaking of Glenn Close, I highly recommend her interview on the WTF podcast. Maron (podcast host) got her to divulge a deep, dark secret that Close really didn’t want to discuss. It started off innocently enough — Maron asked Close where she got her start as a singer. Close hemmed and hawed. Maron kept pressing. Close spilled the beans. @Low Key Swagger: That is an interesting report on New Mexico party politics. I hope you keep us posted. I am very interested in state level politics. In Virginia, the Democrats are all singing Koombaya. The Republicans are a different story.

But I’m curious.  In 2018  Governor Michelle Luhan Griffin ran and won on a clean energy platform. The next year, the legislature passed a clean power program. Do you see any results yet? Wind generators, photovoltaic installations?

A couple years ago, I drove I-20 through Texas to New Mexico. West Texas had tons of windmills, but I noticed there were very few in New Mexico. There certainly was no shortage of wind.

@Amir Khalid: @indycat32:  Sorry for the late reply and without reading if WereBear gave better advice, but kittens are able to start eating wet solid food a bit earlier, like 5 or 6 weeks, so I would start bringing some canned food out for them ASAP. If mom is semi-domestic she’ll probably warm up to you, and if you can handle or pet the kitten now without getting bit try to, as that helps them socialize. Waiting until 8 weeks will make it harder. If mom seems friendly and you’re up for snatching them both off the streets do it. Isolate them in their own room if you have other pets, and visit them often to play or just talk to them, always with food or kitten formula (available at most stores that sell pet food). It’s unusual for a cat to have a litter of one, others were probably already killed by predators.

Edit: the way to even a very skittish feral’s heart is by being a safe and reliable source of food.
