@Patricia Kayden: A day that ends in black.

Those whiskerz! What a pretty sweetie pie.
LeftCoastYankee
Tis hot in the Northwest today. I’m pretending sitting in the dark, 3 feet from a fan is cool.
Last night the ice pack for the sore knee had very little knee time.
HumboldtBlue
Those whiskers are rather noble.
Here is some nobility in the face of ignoble acts by assholes.
Here’s the beginning.
Percysowner
I used to be a law librarian up in Akron, and I knew the lawyer who is representing the young man in this case. I hope he nails the coaches’ asses to the wall, because this is inexcusable.
Eunicecycle
@Percysowner: Ohio is not covering itself in glory in the news today. And I agree that the whole staff should be fired. Anyone who stood by while it was happening should be gone.
Yutsano
@Percysowner: At least Jewish law will cover him. This “punishment” is not even close to new. Fuckers.
Danielx
A truly magnificent set of whiskers.

I get the Kovels’ newsletter about antiques and collectibles. Today it had an article with this intriguing headline”
“Treasure Hunters Beware: Digging Up Graves in Search of Treasure Is Illegal”
Raoul Paste
“Digging up graves in search of treasure…”
Also known as grave robbing
mrmoshpotato
@JoyceH: WTF? Grave robbing is illegal?
wenchacha
Back when nice White Americans were burning, raping and pillaging Greenwood and other enclaves of Black Society, did they congratulate themselves in public? If they were so very proud of their efforts to preserve White Supremacy, why did they hide their lights under bushels, and white hoods?
Perhaps this has been in the history books forever, and I just missed it. I knew about Wounded Knee in the 70s, about the Okies and Dust Bowl refugees maybe around the same time. Watching “Roots,” I had a larger picture of the institution of slavery. Where was the info about all the towns that were looted and burned? You’d think they would have made big statues to commemorate their successes.
Steeplejack
@JoyceH:
Next they’ll be saying you can’t take the bodies for illegal medical experiments!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Steeplejack: Democrat Party and their regulations.
mrmoshpotato
Dodgers win! (Should’ve counted for two)
?BillinGlendaleCA
@mrmoshpotato: Guess that’s what the fireworks were all about.
Mary G
They reject the skins!
mrmoshpotato
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Probably. Sadly, the Cards will most likely destroy the Reds.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@mrmoshpotato: The Reds were kind of my hometown favorite back in the 70’s since Sparky lived in town
ETA: His daughter was in my high school class.
mrmoshpotato
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Well, if they want to score 11 in the top of the first tomorrow, that would be just fine. ?

Odo is most attractive cat ever.
descent santa
Sleepy time…
Beautiful cat.
Comrade Colette
Odo is The Floofiest.
Fireworks here in SF are most definitely not for the hated Dodgers (spit!), but they are doing a fine job of scaring my cats. Scoot is huddled against me and Chipotle has taken refuge under the nightstand.
And what is up with all these fireworks? It’s been every night for weeks now. I can’t imagine they’ll have any left for the 4th of July.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Comrade Colette: We had someone setting off fireworks all winter long, and every time the Ring app would have some one screaming about GUNSHOTS
ETA: I knew they were fireworks cause I could see them from here.
NotMax
Well, that was semi-spookily amusing.
Fired up an old movie while doing something which necessitated my being upright. Via whatever voodoo, all through the opening credits the closed captioning was displaying the first line of dialogue, still minutes away from being spoken.
That short single line? “Sit down.”
James E Powell
@mrmoshpotato:
Bellinger’s back!
ruemara
@PIGL: He certainly agrees.
M. Bouffant
@mrmoshpotato: Hate to think they’re wasting runs they could use later.
I was excited they were so far ahead I could pay attention to the Clipper game. Then …
VeniceRiley
@?BillinGlendaleCA: We should do a kids of famous thing here. I’m afraid we SoCals would dominate. I got beach boys and Nelson riddle kids.
Top post is an outstanding cat portrait that deserves a frame under glass old times bubble like style.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@VeniceRiley: I went to Jr. High with Gilligan’s son, two of Roman Gabrial’s kids, and Heather Locklear(she’s a year younger than I am and I don’t remember her, but I do remember her sister).
SiubhanDuinne
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
One of my high school classmates was Marie Accardo, daughter of Tony “Big Tuna” Accardo, mobster boss of the Chicago Outfit.

@Patricia Kayden:
That happened to me once. I was 18, hanging out at our band’s practice garage with our bass player, when a couple of the local “Wild Guys” came by, asking if we’d like to go for a joyride. But the driver, who was clearly deranged and who later became a sheriff’s deputy himself, (only to be fired for guns and underage girls), took us to a local high school which was holding a dance,
Anyway, we got pulled over, the driver was taken out of the car and thrown against the hood, (for which he actually sued and won), while the rest of us stayed in the car, with the other cop’s gun pointed right at my head. But I’m very White and didn’t think I’d actually get shot. Even still, I obeyed their commands and didn’t move a muscle. One can only wonder how it would gave gone down if we were all of a darker complexion.
BTW, the driver was Hispanic, the front seat passenger Filipino, my buddy a big, long curly haired Italian, and me, also long haired, but again, very White, rounding out our multi-ethnic collection. Ah, good times. :(
JWR
@?BillinGlendaleCA: One of the bass players our band tried out was, I think, Sherwood Schwartz’s grandson. (He and his grandfather both lived in Eagle Rock, me in Highland Park.) Ian, the bass playing grandson, told us a bit about Gilligan’s Island, but I don’t remember what was said.
VeniceRiley
@JWR: Are we doing “whites get pulled over too” stories?
Okay I got pulled over blocks from home and said I had to pee is why I rolled the stop sign. They let me go … event. But it was bladder discomfit!
I was a passenger with a tall blonde hottie date who got pulled over and I told the cop “I asked you to never stop me just the other day at the dry cleaners!” and he let us go.
Rhats what happens in most white peoples stories.
JWR
@VeniceRiley: Lol! Saved by the bladder!
Okay, here’s another White People vs. the Man story:
One time, I couldn’t get my tail or brake lights to work, but had to drive the short distance home from a late-night bong party. Sure enough, a cop noticed that the rear of my car was blacked out, started closely following me while shining their white spotlight into my car (but no reds) so I kept going, tucking a small bag of weed between the seats, and finally stopping for a light. The cops pulled up next to me and asked if I knew about the lights. I told them I’d tried and tried to get them to work, but lived just a few blocks down this next street, which was true. The passenger seat cop snarled that I ought to junk the whole damn car. But that was it. They just let me go. Must be something in my (white) genes.
Gvg
@wenchacha: They posted pictures of lynchings on the front pages of local newspapers which faces showing and proud poses reminiscent of hunters beside a deer they hunted. Maybe that didn’t get sent outside their own areas, but postcards were common. I recall the local library doing a black history display showing this image from our own paper a century ago and being struck by how public it was. The lynching was not secret or something to be ashamed of to them. The front paged showed people holding their kids up to get a better view. White faces were clear, identifiable, and proud of themselves. Creeped me out.
Pictures really do tell more than words. I had read history, but those pictures taught me more in a few seconds about savagery.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: My brother went to high school with Ken Griffey Jr. He said he was really nice and a talented artist.

@Steeplejack: “GRAVE, n. A place in which the dead are laid to await the coming of the medical student.” (The Devil’s Dictionary, where else?)
Just One More Canuck
@SiubhanDuinne: probably a pretty safe school
LiminalOwl
@Percysowner: The coach’s behavior is indefensible. At the same time, I have to note (without blaming the young man, or any other kids caught up in it) that “Hebrew Israelites” usually refers to a group of Black churches who preach that they (starting with enslaved people freed in the US) are the ONLY true heirs of Israel, and Jews are… well, depending on which subsect of HI is talking, either irrelevant/nonexistent, or demonic white people who should be killed, and will be when Jesus returns.
This knowledge, and having been verbally attacked by their street preachers, affects my view of the situation…
