Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Giving up is unforgivable.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

T R E 4 5 O N

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Let there be snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

A number of you, from what I can tell mostly long time commenters, keep getting trapped in comment moderation. It appears someone or something turned it up to 111 at some point earlier today. I’ve let Cole and WG know. I’m fishing you all out as fast as I can, but I’m going to be heading out to run an errand in a bit, so if you get trapped, you know what you did!

If my comment suggests burning the patriarchy to the ground I have no complaints about the blog or it’s posts. If my comments are unclear or blocked or bollixed by the blog, my intent was to convey my desire; with every fiber of my being; to burn the fucking patriarchy to the fucking ground until the end of my days.

Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley has decided to make us fret about something he considers to be a crucial issue of our time: the decline of masculinity. American men, he says, are being attacked as part of a concerted leftist project.
“The left want to define traditional masculinity as toxic,” he said in a speech at the National Conservatism Conference on November 1. “They want to define the traditional masculine virtues — things like courage and independence and assertiveness — as a danger to society.”

There are some wild rumors in California about the sudden withdrawal from the public by Governor Newsom the day after his live appearance getting his COVID booster shot on October 27th.  The media is getting restless and there are starting to be rumors about why. Most have guessed that he or one of his kids caught COVID. But tonight, supposedly there is a leak from a hospital that he had a serious reaction to the booster, the Guillain-Barré like one. Yikes. I hope this is not true. The conservatives are already all over this and we really don’t know anything. yet.

Trump goes after Chris Christie, who as recently as a year ago was helping Trump with debate prep:

It is an awkward situation. Christie would probably be dead of his own loyalty to trump (and his own stupidity) if trump hadn’t dramatically (and if it wasn’t illegal it should have been) intervened to get CC the same then-experimental monoclonal antibodies that had a few weeks earlier saved trump from dying of his own stupidity
