Antivaxxers on Facebook/TikTok are begging for advice on how to “detox” loved ones who got the shot.
They caved to mandates and want help from influencers.
Some say they’re doomed to death, infertility, or government tracking.
But others have “remedies.”
Like this: pic.twitter.com/ESykg2XIJk
— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) November 12, 2021
I’d say this was the dumbest timeline, but then an even dumber one will emerge…
When Madej talks about “nanotechnologies,” she’s referencing the “liquified computing systems” she falsely believes are in the vaccines.
Most people on TikTok don’t know who she is, but they do see “Dr.” next to her name, so some are pouring themselves a borax bath. pic.twitter.com/XNFrV2GG3w

There's been a shift among online antivaxx communities in the last few weeks.

That’s where the good news comes in: Antivaxxers realize that they’re losing the war.
They’re attempting to adapt to a largely vaccinated world with ludicrous post-shot remedies.
But the outcome is not terrible: more vaccinated people, taking very itchy borax baths.

Limited and noisy data today, as many States continue to take weekends and holidays off from reporting. But the news is really discouraging.
Cases have increased to back over 80,000 in the past two days. Deaths have leveled off at about 1150.
Even worse, the trend in vaccinations is awful. After several weeks of young kids getting first shots and eligibles getting boosters, new vaccinations fell off sharply even before the Veterans Day holiday, down to 1.2 million a day from 1.4 million in the previous two weeks. As Delta really took hold in August, new vaccinations rose to over 480,000/day. Now they are back down to 200,000/day.
Over 100,000,000 people in the US still haven’t even had one shot. Probably 60,000,000 of them have not been infected yet and are still sitting ducks for this winter’s wave.

The Netherlands is doing their 3 week light lockdown even though 85 percent of adults are fully vaccinated.
I was listening to a podcast where a guy talks about getting Covid after watching the movie Dune at an IMAX screening. He was not hospitalized, but felt bad for a few days. He had been fully vaccinated, but no booster. This guy is in his 30s without any other health issues.
Because of projection problems at an earlier screenings, the showing of Dune ended up being packed, without spacing between seats. Also, the theater stopped checking vaccination cards. Most people were wearing masks.
I think that even if we had 90 plus percent vaccination rates, surges would still happen and there will not be any simple return to normal. However, vaccination will help ensure that the pandemic will be manageable.
I hope that the CDC and other agencies are looking for other ways to help mitigate the impact of the virus.

Saturday in the UK we had 38,351 new cases. The rolling 7-day average is down by 0.4%. Weekend figures, however, are notoriously inaccurate due to most offices being closed over the weekend and Wales not reporting at all on Saturdays. New reported cases by nation,
England – 33,493 (up 338)
Northern Ireland – 1896 (up 219)
Scotland – 3052 (down 297)
Wales – Does not report on Saturdays.
Deaths – There were 157 deaths within 28 days of a positive test yesterday. The rolling 7-day average is down by 7.9%. 141 deaths were in England, 3 in Northern Ireland, 13 in Scotland and Wales did not report (Saturday).
Testing – Not updated on weekends.
Hospitalisations – Not updated on weekends.
Vaccinations – As of Friday, 12 November, 50,525,259 people had had 1 shot of a vaccine, 45,985,795 had had 2 and 12,164,586 had had a 3rd shot/booster. In percentage terms this means that 87.9% of all people in the UK aged 12+ had had 1 shot as of that date, 80% had had 2 and 21.2% had had a 3rd shot/booster.

This story is from a few days ago, so I don’t know whether it has been posted yet, but it is worth repeating.
Did you see that viral video of the woman on a plane being abusing and disruptive? You know, the one where the vaccinated woman was being abusive toward an unvaccinated person and the flight staff? Well, if this doesn’t sound right to you, it’s because the whole thing was staged and professionally produced, using actors.
RaflW
I haven’t done much reading about the Pfizer & Merck treatments, but I hope that this after-infection option combined with (too slow but rising) vaccination & boosters will mean that we can find a level of ‘truce’ with the pandemic.
That said, I am envious of the Dutch. They have some right wing pushback, but the relative social cohesion that allows something like their modest dial-back (I’d refrain from calling it lockdown lite, personally) to be set in motion without triggering a red-state melt down flip out.
Soprano2
I know it’s not popular here to say things like this, but what Leonardt is asking is not an unreasonable question. We are not going to have “forever masks” in the US no matter how much some people would like that. We have to learn to live with Covid in the world, because zero Covid isn’t happening either.
RaflW
@Soprano2: I’d more or less agree. Covid is not going to ‘magically disappear’ like our previous moron preznit suggested. It seems incredibly unlikely that it will recede like the 1918 Influenza.
I think what the pushback against Leonhardt is about is how we strategize the new normal, and how quickly. There are forces for just saying “it’s over” but that has a high cost, and who pays is very unequal.
Our society is quite frayed, but it really is just about 15% of the country that is unable to cope. We shouldn’t coddle them to make it all seem normal again.

@RaflW:
In 1918 there were far fewer people in the US, approximately 2/3 fewer. And yet the number of deaths per population density was almost 3 times higher. There are a lot of reasons for that but a couple are communications and medical innovation-science. Of course there is still the same old human factor, which we still see today – “I am stronger than any old bacteria/virus/disease.” And “You can’t make me!”
Soprano2
@RaflW: I think the time to start talking about how to live with and manage Covid long-term is now. Mocking people for saying they’re tired of the pandemic is dumb – do you know anyone who isn’t sick to death of it? There’s an article on the front page of our paper today saying it may take a year or more for this area to get to 70% vaxxed – or that it may never happen! (Thanks,TFG!!) I’m vaccinated, I’m not living like I’m not forever.
PaulB
@Soprano2
I’ll ask you the same thing I’d ask him: how many hospitalizations, cases of long Covid, and deaths a year are you prepared to accept? Without those numbers, any discussion of “managing Covid” is a waste of time.
dr. bloor
@PaulB:
Are you being pedantic here, or are we to assume that yours are “zero” across the board? Because it’s not happening anytime soon, if ever, and my own experience is that trying to find common ground with absolutists is equally as wasteful of my time.
Peale
@dr. bloor: I’ll make the opening bid at 25,000 national cases per day (about 1/3 our current level). If our current levels are going to be the new normal, I want to discuss how many hospital wards were are going to build and how to staff them. I don’t think its going to work to have an industry that is 1/6th of the economy shutting down on a seasonal basis to deal with COVID. If this is the new normal there is a greater supply chain issue than home depot being short on laminate floors for a few months.
