Lots of news happening today. Here are a few conversational hares from the front page of The Post:

The QAnon whack-job who dressed up in horned pelts for the insurrection and was widely photographed brainlessly bellowing in the Senate chamber was sentenced to 41 months in prison today.

Speaking of whack-jobs, the House will vote on a resolution to censure Rep. Gosar and remove him from committee assignments this afternoon. Pelosi’s comments on the matter:

“It’s an emergency,” Pelosi told reporters at the Capitol when asked why the House is taking action against Gosar. “It’s violence against women, workplace harassment — really, I think, legal matters in terms of threatening a member and the president of the United States.” She added: “It’s outrageous on the part of the Republican leadership not to act on this.”

She’s right on all counts. Here’s a tidbit I did not know:

If the House votes to censure a member, that lawmaker must stand in the “well” of the House chamber as the censure resolution and a verbal rebuke are read aloud.

For some reason, I find that amusing. It’s old-fashioned — akin to a dunce cap and stool. I wonder if Gosar will comply, and if not, what happens then? The Post doesn’t say.

Also, Steve “Two-Shirts” Bannon is pleading “not guilty” to contempt of Congress charges, according to CNN. I wonder how long he’ll manage to kick that can down the road…

    He won’t; he lives and breathes to be an oppositional crank.  Maybe they can bring in Clint Eastwood to read the resolution to an empty chair.

    And Micro Rubio (h/t BCrack) puts a “hold” on the nomination of Nick Burns as Ambassador to China. It’s not as if this is an important posting, or this is one of the most experienced and respected US diplomats alive today.

    IMO a system which allows one Senator to block ambassadorial appointments is fundamentally broken.

    News from upstate NY:

    https://wnyt.com/montgomery-county-ny-news/man-fights-village-to-keep-pet-pig-canajoharie-montgomery-county/6303923/?cat=10114

    CANAJOHARIE – A man in Canajoharie says he’s being forced by the village to get rid of his pet pig. He says he’s determined to fight this.

    Ellie the potbellied pig is about 100 pounds.

    She loves to eat and hang out with the two dogs and several cats who live with her.

    For the past two years, this pig has been the focus of a legal battle.

    “I couldn’t imagine coming home and not being able to have my pig with me,” said Wyverne Flat, the pig’s owner.

    I know the law’s the law, but I hope they make an exception in this case.  Why break up a happy family?  It’s not like the pig is in a tiny NYC apartment or anything.  Plenty of room to roam upstate.

    Also, Steve “Two-Shirts” Bannon is pleading “not guilty” to contempt of Congress charges

    He showed plenty of contempt when he showed up.  He made threats against Pelosi, Biden… just about every Democrat.

    He’s a wealthy man and he pays his legal fees, so I assume he’ll drag this out as long as he can.  And if he testifies, he’ll lie and smirk like the blackwater dude did.

    Planning on getting a Covid booster before visiting the in-laws for Thanksgiving. My first two shots were Pfizer. I located a pharmacy near me that allows walk-ins, and has both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. If they give me a choice, should I stick with Pfizer or get a Moderna for the booster shot?

    What are even his stated reasons?

    Rubio, in a statement, said that he believed Burns — who previously worked in the State Department during the George W. Bush and Clinton administrations — had a career “defined by the failure to understand the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party.”

    He also blocked the nominee for ambassador to Spain.

    Rubio called Reynoso a “sympathizer and apologist” for the Castro government in Cuba and “has absolutely no business being in our government.”

    “I am confident … that Reynoso would not push Spain to increase pressure on the authoritarian regimes in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela,” he added.

    Ugh! Tales from the crypto:

    Downtown Los Angeles’ Staples Center, one of the more iconic sports and music venues built in the last 25 years, is getting a new name, stakeholders announced late Tuesday.

    It will be called Crypto.com Arena following a deal with Staples Center owner AEG, the entertainment conglomerate associated with Denver billionaire Phil Anschutz, the cybercurrency platform said in a statement.

    The broader naming deal also includes making Crypto.com an “official cryptocurrency platform partner” for the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings, which play home games at the venue, the company said.

    Though TBH, I never got used to “Staples Center”. But Crypto? Sigh.

    @burnspbesq: At the end of the OJ trial, the veteran criminal defense attorney in my office (had defended multiple Watergate defendants) told me that a jury handling a murder accusation in a case with a complex trial would return a verdict in such a short time only if it was going to acquit on all counts. He told me not to bother going into the break room where everyone else was eagerly awaiting the verdict real time.
    However, when the jury is out for a long time, the picture is much more ambiguous. They could still acquit, they just want to be thorough, or there are hold outs, or they are arguing about what level of offense is appropriate.

    When I was 5 years old, my father brought home a young lamb. I was enthralled and volunteered to feed and take care of her. I named her Debbie. She was soft and cuddly. We snuggled and she danced when she saw me. She was my best friend at the time. Then one day she was gone. Mom and Dad said they didn’t know why, but they were lying. A few days later we had dinner with a kind of meat I had never seen before, and they finally admitted that we were eating Debbie. I threw up and ran to my bedroom and cried all night. I never trusted my parents after that. I never have gotten over it. I will not eat lamb chops to this day. If Debbie had been a pot bellied pig, I probably would feel the same way.,

    fundamentally broken

    It wasn’t a fluke, it was designed that way. Of course it was at a time when the US population was around 5 million, and is now over 330 million. It is for all intents a different country, in a different time, that has needs different than it did over 200 yrs ago. The country had lived under a power that took value away for it’s own purposes, that restricted things because it could but that changed. We need to recognize that different time, different needs and adjust the government we have, using the same logic that was then but taking into account that it’s a different time, a different country/population, and that the power of one person was one of the major problems with the power that was prior and is once again. This is not supposed to be a country that is effected by the single person, it is supposed to be run by majority, logic, reason, not prejudice.

    That was okay in Vegas. The general attitude was that a good reason for living in town was to avoid living under an HOA board of trustees with all their rules.

    @no comment;

    If they give me a choice, should I stick with Pfizer or get a Moderna for the booster shot?

    I would go for the Moderna if it was up to me. Because I think the data tells us that Moderna is a tiny smidge stronger than Pfizer, esp over time. But either will work harder than just the two shots.

    @mrmoshpotato:

    The QAnon whack-job who dressed up in horned pelts for the insurrection and was widely photographed brainlessly bellowing in the Senate chamber was sentenced to 41 months in prison today.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Enjoy the prison food!  It definitely isn’t organic.

    Actually, I prefer they provide him with a good solid vegan diet. Can of Kale over bowl of oatmeal. No butter, no maple syrup, salt is a necessary nutrient. No cream/margarine.pepper either~!~

    @Jim, Foolish Literalist: He was always very funny.  Though he forgot his lines more than others and his takes were usually fairly similar.  That said, he also spoke with us a couple times and was really nice.

    @James E Powell: We also got compliments from NFL QB Donovan McNabb who just happened to wander into a gig we were playing in Marina Del Rey one night and loved our set.

    @Barbara:

    When Wife was in ICU I spent an afternoon in a waiting room with a family whose aunt was non-responsive. One young woman was an exec at the local “dog track” casino. She said they had to clean up after people gambling who should have stopped to go to the toilet, women who barfed in their purses, rather than stop playing their machines.

    Many years ago three of us used to go to lunch at a local beer joint / pool hall that had great blue plate lunch specials. One day owner Bill asked us [ we were all IT software developers ]  why we never played his poker machines. He also had black market games like pull tabs from a bucket. We were all hemming and hawing rather than just telling him we knew the odds were set in advance. I’m pretty sure he took offense even tho we tried to be kind. Those poker machines in bars were illegal, and a sucker’s game.

    On another topic: I hope the Rittenhouse jury takes their time and convinces any hold outs to go for serious crimes for that little monster to do serious time, like 50+ years.

    Lastly, just saw President Joe B burning rubber in a GMC Hummer electric truck!! Glad he gets to do that a little bit, in spite of the Secret Service. Being President should be fun for Uncle Joe B.

    @no comment: I’m late to the thread but this Medcram summaries are good showing the research about mixing and matching boosters. and Which Booster is best. Dr Sehuelt is very good, I’ve learned a lot since someone here at BJ recommended his Medcram series back at the beginning of the pandemic.

    I’ve had Moderna/Moderna and the 1/2 Moderna booster

    Another upstate factory town whose factory (Beech-Nut baby food) moved away. Pretty, but if you look closely you can see the hollowing out.
