Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Giving up is unforgivable.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Looks like we could use an open thread.

I don’t see anyone working on a post and nothing is scheduled, so here you go.  I miss the old music threads.

I nearly titled this Late Night Open Thread but then I realized it’s only 8:30 pm in California, and that’s not late night at all.

Me, I’m headed for bed. What’s everybody else up to?

interesting: Jeffrey Clarke told the 1/6 Committee he plans to plead the Fifth (thread)

    Elie Honig @eliehonig 3h
The Committee has decided they’re not going to settle for a vague invocation of the Fifth in a letter from Clark’s lawyer. They’re going to make Clark come in and physically invoke it, maybe many times over. They’re going to make Clark own it and eat it.

My work on Project Omicron is complete. I’ll check in once my freighter from South Africa drops me off at an undisclosed location on the East Coast.

    Take care, everyone.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:  This case is a criminal lawsuit, but if it was a civil lawsuit the fact that the opposing party is entitled to a negative inference would be a practical reason for making the deponent take the fifth over and over. I have seen bank employee deposition testimony where “I invoke the Fifth Amendment” has been only answer for pages.
In a criminal case, though, it’s probably just what it sounds like.

@Winston: In my life Ronstadt was the best, Streisand and Celine were close. but there were so many great women that sang my heart out. Baez, Cher, Mitchell, Joplin, et al, back in the 60’s. 70’s. Loved the music back then. Been a nice 60 years of great stuff since Pat Boone and Roy Rogers.
