Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

The frogs are rarely mistaken.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Somebody needs to explain to DeSantis that nobody needs to do anything to make him look bad.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

This blog will pay for itself.

When the time comes to make an endorsement, the pain of NYT editors will be palpable as they reluctantly whisper “Biden.”

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

It’s a doggy dog world.

There is one struggling party in US right now, and it’s not the Democrats.

No Justins, No Peace

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Mid-Morning Open Thread Now With Ducks

I honestly cannot tell if there is a post in the works or not, so if this gets stomped on, no big deal. But it looks like we could use a new thread. Now with ducks. Playing in the sprinklers. If that doesn’t reduce your stress, nothing will.

The ducks enjoying some rare winter watering time. With the driest fall on record, now going into winter, the city has asked us to water bushes and trees while the days are above 70 degrees. Boon for the ducks…not so much my water bill.

    So,

MAGA rioter claims he was high and drunk on Jan. 6 in bid to avoid jail time

I don’t think it works like that. “Your Honor, I would have never driven drunk and ran over that baby carriage if I hadn’t been drunk”

Taking the doggo for a mid morning walk and it’s almost too warm for a sweatshirt. Not good!

Thanks for the ducks in the water!

I have been feeling super stressed these past few days, but water is very calming for me.

Could hit close to 60F here in NE Illinois today. But chance of rain tomorrow, followed by a cooldown.

Still, dry fall following a dry summer. Maybe some rain on Sunday. Last I read, they’re predicting above normal temps and precip here this winter. Guess we’ll see.

    Love the duckies!

My wonderful progressive Congressman, Pete DeFazio, is retiring. It’s going to be a fucking free for all here

Pleasant 70 degree day here which is normal for Florida this time of year. A bit dryer than usual.

@The Pale Scot: I used to work with a guy whose plan to get out of a ticket was to say that he didn’t see the stop sign. We called it the “Your Honour, Ahh’s Stoopid” defense.

The ducks are adorable, thank you

Eta> 63 here in Memphis, which is not unheard of in early December.  Hell, I remember Christmas get togethers in shorts in the 1970’s.

@Damned_at_Random: DeFazio has been great and the new district should stay Dem. Swapping deep red Linn County for blueish Lincoln County will ease the transition.

70F yesterday, foggy this a.m. and no rain forecast into next week. Lovely, in the actual and ironic senses.

Thank you the ducks made me smile,  too bad people in general aren’t as much fun as ducks, dogs and cats.  We are not worthy.

    @Damned_at_Random:

I know! Ugh, he just won his seat last year. I wonder what got him to retire? I hope we will have a suitable replacement. Plus we are sending more congress critters from our state right?

@cain: My guess is he considers the Infrastructure bill would be a great legacy and he’s tired of the BS from the Repugs. I hope he travels the country and breaks ground at all the new projects he facilitated that the local COngresscritter DIDN’T vote for. (I hope the retirement wasn’t health related)

Just wow. Don’t want to be accused of doom posting. But this shit is getting more and more worrisome.
