Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

We will not go back.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

People are weird.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

“woke” is the new caravan.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Dipshit, there’s always a big ol’ glob of cream cheese in the center. That’s not nothing!

The thing about bagels makes no sense.  They have nothing at the center, but they’re still wonderful. If anything they teach us the exact opposite of what he’s suggesting.

I had always assumed that Santa was married to Mrs. Claus, but apparently that is not the case?

Loved this tweet response to the ‘horrified’ attention hound.

Is there someone in the bookstore holding your wallet hostage until you buy the book?
    No?
Then just walk on past, toots.

Fortunately, that performative outrage tweet has probably been excellent marketing for a book that might have been overlooked, too.

Open thread question, which involves the question mark. Why do so many tweets have some many question marks as part of their tweet or identity? I honestly don’t know.

Not this year. Apparently there is a cream cheese shortage. From USA Today and other reports:

Schreiber Foods, a large producer of dairy products including cream cheese, had to close down for a number of days in October after operations were halted at its plants and distribution centers due to a “cyber event.”

But even a few days down was enough to cause “shockwaves” in the supply chains, said Mark Stephenson, the director of Dairy Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin.

“Dairy plants, for fresh products like that, don’t stockpile a lot of inventory. So we can’t draw on that to smooth out a hiccup of a plant going down for several days time,” Stephenson said.

Cyber attacks and supply chain problems have add up to a… fromage shortage.

A friend of mine back in high school talked me into watching The Producers with him on TV one weekend night in 1971 when a local channel was using it to fill up the schedule. I’m forever indebted to him for that.
