Pelosi writes to Dems on plans for marking the one year anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack.
She says “preparations are underway for a full program of events,” including historians’ perspectives, member reflections, and a vigil at night. pic.twitter.com/Nb7O3DRfBs

Forgive? Maybe. Forget? Never.
I, for one, look forward to the upcoming discussion with great interest.

I tested negate PCR for Covid. Hooray!
Must be a sinus infection or a cold.
Weirdly, the spouse has not received either result from her private arrival test or her NHS test.
Go Nancy! I love this news.

I guess this is what you do when you’ve been played like a cheap piano by the Senate and White House.

Whatever else happens, every Democrat who speaks at that event should talk as if it’s obvious that He, Trump and his GOP co-conspirators organized a coup attempt and sent their MAGAt foot soldiers to storm the Capitol. No need to be strident about it; just keep mentioning it as casually as you’d mention that it’s dark at night. Repetition, not argument, is what gets a message into people’s heads.

In a better country, the media would boycott the traitor’s “news conference” as it will be a steady stream of self-serving lies.

In the first bit of news to lift my two-week long fit of gloom, it now appears that Omicron is going to be less deadly than Delta, even though there’s going to be more of it about.
I’ve been silently living with the belief that we’re headed for another round of total shutdowns. This is the first crack in that black cloud I’ve allowed myself.

I suppose we know that this is true, but it is still sad to see that it has to be acknowledged.

@dr. bloor: What does that even mean? Who do you think has been played like a cheap piano? And what makes you think that?
WaterGirl
@Brachiator: My reaction is a bit different. I am glad that there is someone who is willing to say that out loud. One more person to call the lies, lies. One more person who is not going to allow this to be whitewashed.
And he’s going to have a pretty big microphone.
I feel bad for Fanone, but I’m proud of what he’s doing, proud of the truth he’s telling.
I hope it’s therapeutic for him.

Where is Don Lemon these days? DIdn’t he’ get kicked off his old network, or am I confusing him with someone else?

@WaterGirl:
He’s still at CNN.

I plan to fly my flag on January 6th. To remember that our Democracy held that day. The insurrectionists do not own the American flag.
O. Felix Culpa
@Omnes Omnibus: Righteous. Thank you.

I ran into a very interesting article on the January 6 Insurrection while scanning @Cheryl Rofer. She linked to some work published by an outfit called Just Security. The authors, Ryan Goodwin and Justin Hendrix, discuss reasons that have been posited as to why the National Guard was sent to the Capitol so belatedly. Was it incompetence and bureaucratic friction? An attempt to help Trump and the insurrectionists? Goodwyn and Hendrix write:
It’s quite a story. As Ms.Rofer commented, this is something the January 6 Commitee needs to question Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Milley about.
I also listened to Washington’s WTOP Radio while on my way home today. Their Capitol Hill correspondent said that the Committee intends to resume public hearings next month. I can’t wait. That’s a strong, compact group of members that Speaker Pelosi and her colleagues put together..

@different-church-lady: You don’t have to worry. We’re not going to get a total shutdown again, except maybe for the next pandemic a hundred years from now. Half the country would rather risk death than stay home.
I was kind of one of them. We spent March and April 2020 on the road in a trailer, going from one state park to another. I told people I was staying home and sheltering in place … but my home had wheels.

@Geminid: I’m sure this is accurate. There was plenty of speculation about Trump invoking the Insurrection Act and basically declaring martial law. The various left groups steered clear of DC on J6 because it was pretty obvious the various right wing groups wanted a riot. But the J6 committee needs to get this ON THE RECORD.

@dr. bloor: Who are you referencing here? Pelosi has always run the table in her House!
Ohio Mom
@Denali: In my neighborhood, anyone flying a flag on January 6th will be assumed to be “one of us” by my Republican neighbors.
Maybe also put up a Black Lives Matter banner or one of those multi-colored lawn signs with all the slogans — love is love, science is real, etc. That should at the very least leave them confused.
Ohio Mom
I think it’s a very good idea of Pelosi’s to mark January 6th in an official way.
For my part, I think I’ll dust off my knitted pink pussy hat for the day.
persistentillusion
@Ohio Mom: I’ve got a neighbor who has a large BLM flag attached to his car. I see the car all over town. He’s also a white guy. With very nice dogs.
Jackie
@WaterGirl: You’re thinking of Chris Coumo.
WaterGirl
@Jackie: Good thought, but no. I don’t watch news on TV but even I know the difference between Don Lemon and Chris (I totally fucked up and have been thrown off the network) Cuomo. :-)

I expect Nancy’s event will be cathartic for both members of Congress and the staff. We really have heard little about the trauma they suffered individually and what help they have had to process it. I feel emotional about it just reading that.

@Amir Khalid: Yes. Which I thought was the perfect illustration of how misogyny is even more entrenched, invisible, and more difficult to overcome than racism (not that racism isn’t also entrenched and hard-to-overcome).
