Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

The words do not have to be perfect.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

In after Baud. Damn.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Consistently wrong since 2002

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

We still have time to mess this up!

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

We will not go back.

When we show up, we win.

Wow. Since we've been told that press conferences are the most important thing on earth, the media will as surely readjust their "Biden is ducking us" narrative and replace it with kudos for his transparency…or something. https://t.co/jzb277l9jK

— Centrism Fan Acct ?? (@Wilson__Valdez) January 20, 2022

President Biden gave his 7th solo press conference of his Presidency today. At the same point in Trump's first term, he had only given one.

Many very serious blue checks on here swore this was a very important metric to track.

— What Biden Has Done (@What46HasDone) January 20, 2022

The parties, the media, the whole country, all met Trump where he was & had the silly, stupid, disingenuous conversations he persisted in & accepted his refusal to answer serious questions, often belittling the questioner. Biden acts like an adult & this is the unfair price. https://t.co/zDA57SKNkS

— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) January 19, 2022

trump literally tried to steal the election. suggesting something might need to be done to prevent a person like from succeeding is… not the same thing as trump "raising questions about the legitimacy and sanctity of our democracy"

This is an editor at the Washington Post who doesn't understand how politics works.

cue a thousand voices crying out that biden was a fool who do not understand that they are not the audience for this message https://t.co/VgHvEaC9jb

— GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachi) January 19, 2022

of course, this is all nonsense. biden may have *hoped* to receive cooperation, but the way they've approached legislation says they did not *believe* it. hasan does not think biden actually *believes* this, but he *hopes* you'll go along with pretending he does.

I gave fifty bucks to WBEZ today. I explicitly said (since they offered a comment box) it was because they are buying the Sun-Times.
I have no idea if it’ll work. But commercial media is so much more terrible, at least nonprofit print journalism is worth a try.

Thank you for including the ones about people tut-tutting Biden’s “I did not anticipate” comment.  Like, it’s pretty fucking obvious that the guy who was VP under Obama is well aware of the GOP’s obstruct everything approach and is simply using a framing to bring attention back to Republicans.  I saw a guy who I usually respect pulling that shit yesterday and it reminded me that he’s not someone to follow anytime Biden/Dems are the topic.

The media don’t draw an audience  unless there is turmoil and the equivalent of high-speed car chase crashes to draw eyeballs and ears away from fluff escapist entertainment.  Biden explaining things sensibly isn’t nearly as exciting as Trump saying “watch this” and putting on a show shitting while breathing fire while biting the heads off live chickens.

A GA special grand jury tried to indict someone as recently as 2011, but the court of appeals didn’t find that power in the statute. The procedure the case suggests is that any alleged crimes it uncovers need to be put before a regular grand jury. https://t.co/rKtslXXAMd https://t.co/nVmdiinwpD

If the PTB at MSNBC (if you’ll forgive me) make him apologize for a naughty word, I hope Hayes really, really stresses that Raskin was only quoting the heavily reported and witnessed words of the former (defeated) President of the United States speaking to his own Veep, encouraging him to illegally attempt to overturn the results of a presidential election.

Republican voters love big assholes. There were certainly others before Trump, but he was the first to succeed nationally with it and the first to convince the media not only to tolerate it, but to promote & celebrate it. Trump is now the template for the ambitious Republican politician. People like Liz Cheney are so 20th century, they will never get anywhere with those voters. @mrmoshpotato: There are complaints we aren’t sending enough tests for everyone in the household, plus extra if there are disabled or immunocompromised people living there. Which, would indeed be a lovely thing, but we don’t have that fvcking data do we? I’m sure four was chosen because it’s a nice number, not wasteful for one or two, enough to be helpful for a larger family. Having one package size to send everyone makes it an infinitely easier project.

But apparently sending four tests per household is apparently worse than nothing and spitting in the face of the disabled.

It’s really strange that so many people who identify as PTSD or C-PTSD seem to forget that disordered thinking and catastrophizing are signs of the disorder. Sometimes you just want to tell people that they need to work on themselves and come back to activism when they are in a better place. But that would not be taken well. Even hinting that things may not be so bad has gotten me on block lists.
