Wow. Since we've been told that press conferences are the most important thing on earth, the media will as surely readjust their "Biden is ducking us" narrative and replace it with kudos for his transparency…or something. https://t.co/jzb277l9jK
— Centrism Fan Acct ?? (@Wilson__Valdez) January 20, 2022
President Biden gave his 7th solo press conference of his Presidency today. At the same point in Trump's first term, he had only given one.
Many very serious blue checks on here swore this was a very important metric to track.
— What Biden Has Done (@What46HasDone) January 20, 2022
The parties, the media, the whole country, all met Trump where he was & had the silly, stupid, disingenuous conversations he persisted in & accepted his refusal to answer serious questions, often belittling the questioner. Biden acts like an adult & this is the unfair price. https://t.co/zDA57SKNkS
— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) January 19, 2022
trump literally tried to steal the election. suggesting something might need to be done to prevent a person like from succeeding is… not the same thing as trump "raising questions about the legitimacy and sanctity of our democracy"

cue a thousand voices crying out that biden was a fool who do not understand that they are not the audience for this message https://t.co/VgHvEaC9jb
— GOLIKEHELLMACHINE (@golikehellmachi) January 19, 2022
of course, this is all nonsense. biden may have *hoped* to receive cooperation, but the way they've approached legislation says they did not *believe* it. hasan does not think biden actually *believes* this, but he *hopes* you'll go along with pretending he does.

Those hot takes are quite awful.

These people cannot even think without Republican talking points.
Did they cheat on all their high school and college papers?
ETA How the phuck did they all get into Ivy League Colleges.
Oh yes, cheating and legacies.
schrodingers_cat
@Baud: Yeah and the left Twitter is sneering at Biden for sending them 4 free tests. With friends like these..
laura
What a big circle of jerks circling jerking and tut tutting and visibly pining for that big strong daddy to return and start raising cain every 15 minutes because that’s when america was great again.
Where’s Villago Delenda Est with his answer to all this?
Baud
@schrodingers_cat:
Have they ever been our friends?
RaflW
I gave fifty bucks to WBEZ today. I explicitly said (since they offered a comment box) it was because they are buying the Sun-Times.
I have no idea if it’ll work. But commercial media is so much more terrible, at least nonprofit print journalism is worth a try.
schrodingers_cat
@Baud: True that!
raven
@laura: Wipe them all out.
Baud
@raven:
You’re a good understudy.

I thought Peggy Noonan’s Reagan foot fetish was unhealthy and disturbed. Then I read Chris Cillizza’s Ivanka tweets.
matt
Oh, what a coincidence. I had my booster yesterday and have a mild case of Cilizza today.
UncleEbeneezer
Thank you for including the ones about people tut-tutting Biden’s “I did not anticipate” comment. Like, it’s pretty fucking obvious that the guy who was VP under Obama is well aware of the GOP’s obstruct everything approach and is simply using a framing to bring attention back to Republicans. I saw a guy who I usually respect pulling that shit yesterday and it reminded me that he’s not someone to follow anytime Biden/Dems are the topic.

Georgia to convene special grand jury to investigate Trump & Co.
Lock him up!

I think that those Ivanka tweets are the proper response to anything that Chris Cillizza says in the future.

Assholes.
Looks like it’s another night to watch a movie. The Lighthouse was slow, but pretty good.
Gravenstone
@SiubhanDuinne: It’s all about the starbursts with these sorts. Lowry wasn’t an outlier as it’s clear that too many “journalists” get their opinions from their dicks.

@Mike in NC:
Because the Kremlin’s orange fascist shitstain asked for Georgia’s SoS to cheat him into victory? Or is it some other illegal bullshit from that fascist shitstain?
cmorenc
The media don’t draw an audience unless there is turmoil and the equivalent of high-speed car chase crashes to draw eyeballs and ears away from fluff escapist entertainment. Biden explaining things sensibly isn’t nearly as exciting as Trump saying “watch this” and putting on a show shitting while breathing fire while biting the heads off live chickens.
debbie
Not that I condone violence, but Fecke’s tweet didn’t go far enough.
Another Scott
@Mike in NC: Good, good. But note the fine print.
The people running these investigations need to be sure they get all the nuance right. I’m sure they’re doing their best – none of this stuff is easy. Those of us out here need to be patient, also too.
Cheers,
Scott.

@SiubhanDuinne:
Who was the clown who got tinglies up and down his legs listening to Sarah Palin?
ETA: Thanks to Gravenstone for jogging my memory. It was Rich Lowry.

Honestly our media folk have the shallowest & most needy egos out there. They spend so much time telling us/each other that Joe is lame to reinforce their own cool kid feeling. I mean, it could be that they all think they’ll get the next big Fox News hire/$$$, but naaaa. They really think slamming Joe makes them better. I have to wonder who the producers/editors are at these places because they have to see this too, and yet they keep shoving these idiots out there shoving gibberish down our gullets.
Cameron
@mrmoshpotato: I thought it was one of the best modern horror movies I’ve seen.
Yarrow
@debbie: No, Rich Lowry said watching Palin sent starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living room.
Chris Matthews felt a “thrill going up his leg” as he watched Obama speak.
It’s sad I know this.
debbie
@Yarrow:
Even sadder that I misremember.
Cameron
I dunno. I think Cillizza usually goes down pretty easy. Although sometimes I have to flush twice.
Yarrow
@debbie: Oh, no. The misremembering is a good thing! It shows you’re not spending much time on it, just remember a few keywords. Me, however….

Jamie Raskin just quoted trump saying to Pence on 1/6, “You can either be a patriot or a pussy”. Chris Hayes chuckled awkwardly. If the PTB at MSNBC (if you’ll forgive me) make him apologize for a naughty word, I hope Hayes really, really stresses that Raskin was only quoting the heavily reported and witnessed words of the former (defeated) President of the United States speaking to his own Veep, encouraging him to illegally attempt to overturn the results of a presidential election.

I’m watching Don Jr all coked up smoking a giant cigar and ranting about the FBI. He seems a wee bit panicky, beyond coke panic. Can’t imagine why….some Supreme decision maybe?

@MagdaInBlack: Eric told him you can’t bring a lawyer into a grand jury proceeding (I think that’s true?) and he’s terrified he’ll forget to plead the Fifth?

@MagdaInBlack:
Republican voters love big assholes. There were certainly others before Trump, but he was the first to succeed nationally with it and the first to convince the media not only to tolerate it, but to promote & celebrate it. Trump is now the template for the ambitious Republican politician. People like Liz Cheney are so 20th century, they will never get anywhere with those voters. Showing common decency is a deal breaker. Might as well go vegan & drive a Prius Prime.
MagdaInBlack
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Maybe he’ll go in all coked up and run his mouth like he is now. That would be fun.

@trollhattan: A Jewish couple were permissibly* denied access to an adoption by a state funded Christian adoption agency recently in Tennessee.
It comes as no surprise as the accelerating rightwing evangelicals feel like they can fully uncloak in their bigotry. Yet it is both shameful, and a warning that it ain’t gonna stop at trans kids, Black voters, and Jewish parent-hopefuls.
*I suppose the lawsuit may ultimately find it was impermissible, but the agency seems to be applying the law the Christofascist legislature intended.

@mrmoshpotato: There are complaints we aren’t sending enough tests for everyone in the household, plus extra if there are disabled or immunocompromised people living there. Which, would indeed be a lovely thing, but we don’t have that fvcking data do we? I’m sure four was chosen because it’s a nice number, not wasteful for one or two, enough to be helpful for a larger family. Having one package size to send everyone makes it an infinitely easier project.
But apparently sending four tests per household is apparently worse than nothing and spitting in the face of the disabled.
It’s really strange that so many people who identify as PTSD or C-PTSD seem to forget that disordered thinking and catastrophizing are signs of the disorder. Sometimes you just want to tell people that they need to work on themselves and come back to activism when they are in a better place. But that would not be taken well. Even hinting that things may not be so bad has gotten me on block lists.
