Adam lives! Welcome back, brother
Jim, Foolish Literalist
those of you in New England are about to run out of bread and milk, if you haven’t already. Blame Biden

Got my big pump (5500 gpm) back 3 days ago, it had been running 24/7 for 2 months, then crapped out.
Oil change, spark plug, carb rebuild, new ignition,
Called Abbotsford FD today to let them know it’s running again, so they rushed a truck out to pick it up, so it’s back on Sumas Prairie, draining flood waters. They called me to let me know it started on the first pull.
Only 1/4 of my pumps are back in the store, the rest are still out in the Valley, dealing with flood waters.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist I remember the great blizzard of ’87, when I barely made it back from my job in Camebridge to Mattapan.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Yeehaw. That’s a lot of snow.

What’s cooking on the back end?

Welp. It’s time to start the old job search. Got laid off today. Biotech is a volatile industry, and when the stock price goes from $50 to $10 in less than a year, there is going to be a lot of volatility.
Jay
@TheOtherHank:
ouch, good luck.

They have to register again. But then they may run into this:
Deadline to register to vote in Texas primary is Monday, Jan. 31
Texas really, really doesn’t want people to vote.

I try to have a “joke a day”, for associates, and some Customers.
It’s a stressful time.
Today’s was “ apparently, all we have to fear, is fear itself”,…..
”oh, and stupidity ,……… we should be fricken afraid of stupidity.”

Seeking some advice from the jackaltariat this morning.
When cold dry winter weather comes, skin on my hands drys out, cracks, gets to point of bleeding at times. Getting to that point now.
Thot I had bottle of hand lotion left over from last winter, it’s AWOL. So need to get more.
Recommendations sought for lotion that:
keeps skin from drying and cracking
is available locally at reasonable price
dries reasonably quickly,
doesn’t leave hands feeling ‘greasy’
Used to use Cornhuskers’ Lotion, that’s hard to find these days… So,
Thanks for any advice you can give me on this !
JAFD
And, as long as I’m asking for advice …
Have to set up ‘two factor authentication’ on my internet account with Social Security, to get some paperwork done.
Have any of you used ‘authentication programs’ – Google Authenticate, 1Password, etc. etc.
Recommendations ?
Thanks very very much !

@JAFD
Others will be far more experienced in this area but shall say I know folks who swear by Bee Balm lotion or cream.
Also too, you might want to ask about it with satby, as she may well sell a suitable preparation.
mrmoshpotato
@JAFD: Neutrogena Hand Cream!
Also good for dry lips, etc.
Added: my hands dry out a bit in winter (thank you steam heat), but my dad’s hands dry out to that cracking, bleeding point. We’ve been using it for decades.

@JAFD
Been, in computer years, ages since looked into 2FA stuff, so take that into account regarding what follows.
Authy was for years (may still be) the gold standard for two-factor authentication apps.

@Jay: You have problems. I only have issues.
AICPA has apparently revised how we review homeowners associations so all my checklists are out of date. Sigh.
I absolutely love reviewing homeowners associations. Especially the minutes. These people are nuts. Often hardworking, but mostly nuts.
My husband wants to retire to a condo. I read him selected minutes. ” You sure you want these people running your homelife?”
sab
@JAFD: Post Office list or misdirected my 1099ssa, so now I have to contact them, while knowing a neighbor knows my income.
Urk. God bless DeJoy, because no one else but his wife likes him.

Boss doesn’t want me to report until Monday. Yay!
Free weekend! Finish cooking machaca. It makes awesome enchiladas. Fight with Social Security about lost 1099SSA. Take dog to vet, and also husband’s cat to vet.
Bake mincemeat pie in time for Groundhog/woodchuck day (aka Candlemas, end of Catholic Christmas season) Being Episcopalian,
ourmy stripped down Christmas ended at twelvth night.sab
@sab: Candlemas is supposed to be about pancakes. I think we will do popovers instead. I absolutely love popovers, but so fattening. So only once a year. Used to be New Years. Save pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, when everyone else is out getting drunk at Mardi Gras.
Now Candlemas.Woodchucks are plump, so appropriate.

@sab
Mmm. Pancake.

@JAFD: When I used to work at Walgreens (during Wisconsin winters) , I’d recommend Eucerin –
https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/eucerin-original-healing-cream-fragrance-free/ID=prod8061-product
Just make sure the “rich” denotation on the tub is as far to full as you can, since they have a few variations.
Satby’s lotions are also awesome, but then you’d need to wait for shipping. But hey etsy store should be linked from any comments she makes.
I also use Google Authentication on my Android. The biggest pain is when you upgrade your phone and need to move over your 2FA codes for everything.

@mrmoshpotato: personally used to use Neutrogena, but they reformulated a few years back to at more alcohol to the cream and it now irritates my sensitive skin. It can be a good choice though, depending on your skin.

Just go full Neo-Pagan and call it Imbolc!

@JAFD: I just typed in cornhuskers on Amazon and a bunch of cornhuskers stuff comes up.
Also, my sister swears by tome lotion, something with cows or moo on the label. Maybe that will ring a bell for someone and they can tell you the name?
edit: okay, so I typed in “lotion cow” on Amazon, and it brought up the lotion that my sister loves for skin cracking issues. it’s called “Udderly Smooth”
planetjanet
@JAFD: I like Nivea Cream for a thick moisturizer without feeling greasy. Right now, even it is not working as well on one particular dry patch and I am using Vaseline.

Creamy Petroleum Jelly, sold under the Vaseline brand as Deep Moisture. Worst comes to worst use just plain Petroleum Jelly, nothing beats it.

Anybody have any thoughts on the Arizona Democratic party censuring Kristen Sinema? Besides quote good for them unquote. Frankly, I think what Schumer did with the voting rights legislation, they should also do with Build Back Better. Make Manchin and Sinema own their obstruction and take the heat for it.

I like Eucerin, our family Doc recommended it. The thick paste in a tub is better than the lotion in a squeeze bottle.
He also recommended Vicks for colds, smear it on thick on your chest, back and feet, put socks on to keep the salve on your feet and not on the sheets. Works, sounds goofy as heck, still works.
