Some of you may follow John Pavlovitz – a minister taking on the heresy of Trump-supporting churches, so you may have seen this. It came up on my feed and caught my attention because, aside from his own stuff – books, podcast, etc – he doesn’t endorse things.
Been looking for a great pillow and this beauty from @pillowfightco arrived today and I absolutely love it!
They are committed to amazing, sustainable bedding with values antithetical to that insurrectionist pillow guy. Support them!

So I went to see what it was about – I’m always up for a Republican bashing company (looking at you Penzey’s and your excellent spice blends). And this is what I found:
It made me laugh. Full-disclosure – I sleep on latex – mattress and pillows – and use a down comforter, so I’m probably not their market for pillows, etc, but I am going to take a look at their sheet sets.
Anyway, here’s a bonus Acts of Kindness video from this morning, made me tear up:
And for those who asked and sent well wishes, my 19-yr old cat Emma made her way across the Rainbow bridge on Friday – in my arms, at her own pace. So she left me as she lived – her way, not to be bossed. It was a life well-lived, but we are sure feeling the loss of her Alpha boss energy here.

Sorry to read of Emma’s passing. You were both (each?) lucky to have had each other
ETA: And she was a beautiful girl, thanks for all the great photos.
Mary G
RIP Emma. She always made me laugh at her dignified presence in a room full of rowdy ducks and Danes. I know you will miss her.
CaseyL
Emma: a Great Beauty, an Indomitable Lady, and a Friend to Danes. 19 years is a very good span. May her memory be evergreen and joyful.
Baud
My condolences.
Tony Jay
RIP. Going on their own terms, in their own way. How very Cat.
Ben Cisco, MSCIS Padawan
Condolences on the loss of your beloved Emma. Absolutely regal in the midst of chaos.
Baud
I knew the name but not what he did. That’s great. It’s not something we see enough of.
CaseyL
Enjoyed the Pillow Fight Club video – but I’m a hyperdense-foam-pillow girl, and my bed is a giant baggy filled with water, so….

When it comes to glass orbs, I cheat. I go to Astral Glass in New Haven and buy them.
Narya
Condolences from here, too. I’ll dedicate the beer I’m drinking to you and to her memory.❤️
mrmoshpotato
Good on them making fun of Mike Pillow’s fascist ass.
ETA – sorry to hear about Emma.
OzarkHillbilly
@Baud: Pavlovitz is great. I’ve been “following” him for a couple years.
NeenerNeener
I’m sorry for your loss of Emma. Such a pretty cat.

So sorry about Emma Kate, thank you for the photos. What a cutie!
And the CBS piece about the glass orbs…so interesting what people become obsessed with.
trollhattan
Aww, sorry to learn about Emma, TaMara. It’s always hard, and you’ll miss having her around, which is how it should be.
SiubhanDuinne
Emma Kate was lovely. Lucky you to have her and lucky her to have you.
Have been a John Pavlovitz fan for several years. Thanks for front-paging him.
debbie
So sorry to read of your loss. Emma was lucky to have you.
I love that glass orb story. Wish one would float its way out here.
Spanky
Condolences on losing Emma. She follows hot on the heels of our own 19 y.o. tortie Max and my old roomate’s 21 y.o. Gracie. Been a rough couple of weeks for aged kitties.
Mike in NC
RIP Emma. Waiting for the MyPillow clown to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Spanky
@Mike in NC: They won’t have him.
VOR
Emma was beautiful. I’m sure she was well loved and will be greatly missed.

I have a Penzey’s the next town over. I live in a very real-blessed area in general, but this is something special.
Starfish
Sorry for your loss.

@Spanky: So sorry about Max and Gracie.

Every time you posted a photo of Emma I thought how beautiful she was. I hope it’s a comfort that she went on her own terms.
MagdaInBlack
Such a beauty. I’m so sorry for your loss. and I’m glad you got to share each others lives.
Bex
Goodbye Emma Kate. Goodbye? You’ll see me out of the corner of your eye just when you need to…
Jackie
So very sorry for your loss of beloved Emma. My beloved Cinder lived 20+ years and died in my arms seven years ago. I still miss her. She, like Emma, was spunky right to the end, and I was so thankful she wasn’t sick or ailing – her heart just finally got tired. There’ll be other kitties in our lives, but never another Emma or Cinder. ♥️
zhena gogolia
Oh, so sorry about Emma. It is always so hard.
Yutsano
Oh TaMara. I can only say I’m glad that Emma passed quietly, at home, surrounded by your love. May we all be so lucky. And may Emma have her own herd of Great Danes, other cats, and ducks in her next existence.
Uncle Cosmo
Sorry to hear about Emma. Sounds like she had a great run.
But delighted to note that Amir is back! When did he parachute back in? (I must have missed it when I was deepdiving through a couple of SF novels from the library. Anyone point me to the thread where he re-emerged?! Or summarize what happened in 25,000 words or less?!?!?)
zhena gogolia
Wow, beautiful essay about beautiful Emma.
eclare
@Uncle Cosmo: His first post back was in last Friday’s late night thread. I don’t think he has said what kept him away.
He is looking for a new guitar!
SFAW
@eclare:
Thanks. I, as with Cosmo, had not seen Amir’s return, but am extremely happy to read about it.
Amir, great to “see” you, I hope everything is A-OK with you!

What beautiful girl.
Thank you for giving her a good life.

I’d never heard of Pavlovitz before, so I clicked through to his Twitter feed. And the first thing I saw was his book entitled, “If God Is Love, Don’t Be a Jerk” so I like his attitude already.
Kathleen
My deepest condolences TaMara.
Miss Bianca
So sorry to hear about Emma, TaMara. My condolences.

I’m sorry about Emma, what a beautiful cat.I’m glad her passing was peaceful and at home.
I bought my husband one of those My Pillows. He wanted one. This is before we knew Mike Lindell was a cook. As you probably know, they’re expensive and not that good.

So very sorry to hear about Emma, she was such a beautiful kitty.

I’m sorry to hear about Emma.
Jager
We said goodbye to our 14 year old German Shepherd a week ago Friday, he crossed the bridge at home with his mommy singing to him, while I was holding his head, the vet was great and it was sweet and gentle.
Today this happened. Cakes and I went to the Outlet Mall today, while she was in Ann Taylor, I sat in the warm sun outside the store. A young couple with a dog walked up, the woman went into the store, the guy stayed outside with the dog. The dog (some kind of a short-haired cross) pulled on her leash and came over to me, she stared into my eyes, put her paw on my leg. I rubbed her ears and face and she licked my hands and my masked face. I think she was telling me our old boy Anze was safe and happy. Her name was Dogette, she was sweet as pie.
Thanks to Dogette and Jimmy, they made my day.
Noname
@Jager: That was definitely a message from Anze. May it bring you and your wife comfort as you deal with his loss.
Jager
@Noname:
Thank you
Amir Khalid
Emma was a beautiful cat, and she had the regal bearing and authority of a true queen. I’m sure your household menagerie feels her loss as much as you do.
WaterGirl
So much love in your house. Tears for your beautiful Emma Kate.
Ken T.
So very sorry for your loss. It is hard, and it is an agreement we make with them when they come to our lives: A to Z, with love and food and shelter. Grieve well for your girl. The photos have been a joy. RIP Emma.
