We all need some stupidity we can laugh at…
they are apparently afraid of getting arrested if they actually do anything in DC so instead they are loudly announcing their intentions to commit a traffic crime on a road that’s so infamously backed-up it won’t even notice https://t.co/iBn39kZq2o

the problem this stupid truck convoy has now is they’ve made it to their end goal without gaining any real attention, and now they’re stuck between “go home and get laughed at” and “do something highly illegal for attention and go to jail”

Here’s the scene from a Beltway overpass as convoy drivers start on their second lap and continue to be separated. pic.twitter.com/KjKF1SoRI8

I just pulled off near the I-270 interchange and so far six trucks have peeled off after seemingly only completing one of two Beltway laps – as the lead trucks push on for a second.

I would like to nominate Right Side Broadcasting for an Emmy for their riveting 3 hours and 7 minutes of coverage of traffic on the DC beltway today. The commentary here really just brings it all together. pic.twitter.com/ducp1AwgcV

This fits here as it does downstairs.
Redshift
You can be ticketed for obstructing traffic for deliberately driving slower than the flow of traffic, even if you’re driving at the posted “minimum speed.”
You’d think professional drivers would know that.
Geoduck
The fact we’re even talking about this subject indicates the convoy-ites sort of succeeded in getting attention.
Captain C
So, given 2 laps that no one really noticed plus 60 miles each way to Hagerstown (250ish miles), that would be, what, $150-$200 worth of gas for each rig just to pwn the liberals? I feel pwnd. So very pwnd.
Ruckus
@Geoduck:
It’s not the attention they were looking for.
They wanted ATTENTION. They are getting laughed at for being such buffoons, their wallets are screaming, and the results of their idiocy is that everyone knows – they are fucking idiots.
Emma from Miami
Sweet Christ. The Beltway? Really?
sab
I used to do some of these peoples tax returns. They are as stupid as you think they are.
Shalimar
@Captain C: And it was Sunday. I wonder if they realize how much of a disaster this is going to be with 10 times the traffic if they do this again today?
The Dangerman
Tomorrow it’s going to be 3 laps? Oh, the humanity; think of the Children. And Tuesday, 4 laps, that would just…

I really hope some enterprising documentary filmmaker embedded very early and throughout with these goobers, with the intent of treating the story like Spinal Tap.
They — and their supporters — deserve high-profile mockery.

The problem in the modern era of caltrops, ( or a box of roofing nails, loose, not coil) is they only slow down the traffic, behind you, so you don’t get where you are going any faster.

Though yeah, they’re not gonna’ muck things up any more than usual …

The beltway is 64 miles. Three laps is almost 200 miles. When are they planning tomorrow’s go-round? It will be hard to find a time where they don’t run into rush hour. I don’t think they’re going to enjoy this.
Captain C
@Shalimar: So depending on gas prices, $35-$50 more per extra lap. Genius.
mrmoshpotato
@JoyceH:
Well, they can go fuck themselves for being idiots without a cause. ?
Nilnoc
Late Sunday morning I took the convoy’s route from Frederick, MD down I-270 to the Beltway and Northern Virginia. Saw many MD and VA state troopers parked and flashing. About half the overpasses were manned by one to four supporters with two American flags and the same nicely-made ‘Honk 4 Freedom’ banner. Nobody honked. The best banner said ‘Why are you interfering with church traffic?’
Joey Maloney
I want someone to sell the convoy on the idea that just adding one lap per day is not radical enough. They should double the number of laps every day.
We already know from the past two years that these folks do not understand the concept of exponential growth.

The only thing that could make this better would be if they got on the Dulles road and had to drive miles and miles to get back out.

@Aunt Kathy:
Strangely they never say the same thing about even bigger liberal events. Must be because of the lack of funnel cakes, fireworks and fascism.
Gvg
The right wing has been obsessed with the DC beltway for years now. It’s weird. They are always threatening to converge on DC with big groups to motorcycles or trucks and it usually fizzled. They always think the next time it will work and promise thousands will show up. This is why I was so surprised by January 6th. I heard the threats but assumed it was another case of crying wolf. Anyway, this time some actually showed up after 2 to 4 other “groups” failed to get very far. It’s not very impressive. The Canadian truck blockade got them all worked up again.
they seem unable to come to terms with the demonstrated fact that they are not a very big percent of our population. They also don’t understand how things work.

Hello Jackals
Anne Laurie
These are not, shall we say, complicated people. Their media continually uses ‘the Beltway’ as a shorthand for every terrible, horrible, very bad no good thing that happens; I honestly believe a lot of them honestly conflate that image of grinning politicians & bureaucrats with the physical infrastructure that loops around D.C.
They will take over the (highway) Beltway, surround the metaphorical monster-fortress where Nancy Pelosi and Dr. Fauci are hiding in the basement, and conquer the Capitol!!! — to the cheers of all decent Real, Heartland ‘Muricans.
Never occurred to them it might be a little more complicated than that. Let’s just do it, and be legends!
Anne Laurie

Since this thread isn’t quite dead I’ll note that Hugh Hewitt has posted a column enthusiastically supporting the convoy without actually saying what the convoy supports. My guess is that he’s hoping for a revived Tea Party.
Kay
@Aunt Kathy:
His narrative doesn’t fit what he saw though:
Open to all religions, but none except QANON and Christian nationalism represented. Open to all races, but the only black person there, a reporter, was confronted by the mob and appeared “visibly shaken”. Open regardless of political party but all Democrats are pedophiles.
It’s insulting to county fairs to compare this to a county fair. I’ve been to tens of county fairs. I’ve never been called a pedophile because I’m a Democrat, never seen display after display of the QANON cult, never seen a reporter confronted and threatened to the extent he or she is “visibly shaken”.
That’s a nasty county fair. Adding food trucks and fireworks to your white supremacy rally doesn’t make it a county fair.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mary G: Greetings, good to see your nym.
Kay
Yup. Just your average county fair. They’re “bonding” around threatening the black reporter. WTF is with this “historian”?

Truck diesel at Hagerstown Loves is $5.38/gal. 68 miles Loves to I-495 + 3x 64 miles beltway loop + 68 miles back to Loves == 328 empty miles.
Truck bobtail ~7mpg. Truck w/mt trl ~6mpg.
328 ÷ 7 = 46.8g × $5.38 == $252.09
This does not account for maintenence, lease payments, food, amenities.
Plus pointless fuel usage drives up the cost for everyone.
Pwned, so pwned.

In that video taken from the overpass that there were only a few semis and the rest were trucks and SUVs.

@Ken: Georgia claims surveying errors that established the boundary with Tennessee, versus the document declaring said boundary, actually give it a purchase upon which to establish a straw that will suck Tennessee River water into the thirsty maw of Hotlanta. SCOTUS has twice said, “Nope.” Nevertheless, they persist.
WaterGirl
@Mary G: Mary G! So relieved to see you here!
WaterGirl
@SFAW:
Perfect!
Geminid
@HinTN: The crew that Georgia sent to survey it’s northern line worked from east to west, and had to cross a lot of wild and uneven country. Towards the end of the survey they were asking for more supplies. If the legislature had just sent them a wagon load of hams and whiskey, Georgia might have gotten that last few miles to the Tennessee River. These were not the first or last politicians to be “pennywise, pound foolish.”

@Aunt Kathy: I mean, they have these kinds of events all the time. For those of us that live in these parts of the country, you see it everywhere. And as others ably pointed out, ain’t no outreach happening.

VOR
@Geminid: I ran into one of these convoys in Wisconsin on March 4th on I-90/94 west of Madison. Only a handful of semis and none of them pulling loads, just the cab. Lots of pickups and SUVs. The State Patrol seemed to be doing crowd control at a few of the larger overpasses, not driving the road w/the convoy. The convoy was mostly in the right lane, but they were driving below speed limit, maybe 60-65 in a 70 zone. This caused periodic traffic slowdowns even in the left lane, sometimes dropping speeds under 40 MPH.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@VOR: Considering the economy I do wonder why would a trucker who owned his own rig be wasting his time on this BS. It makes me wonder if these are just grifters who leased a rig for the current scam or guys who suck so much no one will hire them. I suppose a few of them could be just on vacation.

@Kay: The sad thing is while out walking on this balmy Sunday I saw one of these truckers parked near Capitol Hill, right by the Botanical Gardens. He had a huge Trump Keep America Great 2024 flag and a US flag and wore a red MAGA hat. He was African American. He’s not the first I’ve seen within the confines of D.C. I wanted to walk up to his open window and ask why, why, why would you side with racists?
