Can I be the one who tells Josh Mandel? https://t.co/xZ05dBfahO

JD’s sugar daddy Thiel must’ve finally written a sufficiently generous check:
… Though Trump’s press shop had already written up an endorsement of Vance, a source close to Mandel’s campaign said Thursday that it threw up a last-minute obstacle for the former president to consider: an internal Republican poll conducted by Mandel’s campaign showing that, with Trump’s endorsement, its candidate would be in front with 33 percent of the vote, followed by Matt Dolan and Mike Gibbons tied at 15 percent, with Vance and Timken both at 9 percent.
The poll showed that, even with Trump’s endorsement, Vance would rise to 15 percent support but was still in a three-way tie for second, with Mandel marginally in the lead at 19 percent — a sign that Trump’s endorsement had weight but was not determinative…
Trump has been concerned with Vance, who criticized the former president bitterly in 2016. Vance is also running in about third or fourth place in recent public polling and has barely cracked double digits — a major worry for Trump, who doesn’t want to waste his endorsement, the sources said.
Dolan is the only candidate who is running on a platform that does not seem to be courting the support of the former president. That has bothered Trump immensely and has pushed him to want to pick a winner to ensure that a non-Trump acolyte doesn’t win a state that he won handily in 2020 and 2016…
After NBC News reported that Trump planned to endorse Vance, a slate of GOP officials in Ohio penned a letter to Trump urging him to “not endorse anyone in this race.” Local party officials listed why they thought Trump should hold back on formally endorsing Vance, citing among other things the candidate’s remarks about Trump in 2016…
TFG doesn’t really care about helping his ‘friends’ (temporary allies); he’s all about punishing his (perceived) enemies. And money trumps every other consideration, so…

The diagram of Republican is nowhere near it.

That Trump pic is still one of the weirdest, creepiest family pics I’ve ever seen. It’s like none of them have any idea of how to be a human being. Barron, at least, still has time to figure it out, and I can only hope he does.

I’d say maybe Virginia should build a wall across their part of the Tennessee border, except it would have to go right down the middle of State Street in Bristol, and I still have some residual fondness for the town, even though I haven’t been back in >20 years.
Tennessee didn’t used to be insane. Conservative, sure, but not insane. But then, American conservatism has gotten way more batshit during that time.

I was so hoping Vance would utter the phrase destined to be Blowmentum’s epitaph.
Please let Vance be in a three-way tie for third place.

@lowtechcyclist: I call that photo “Velazquez Wept” because I think the photographer made a weird parody of Las Meninas, perhaps deliberately.

@ThresherK: Evidently Trump has a rally scheduled at the Delaware County Fairgrounds (30 miles north of Columbus),two Saturdays from now, April 23. This will be interesting. His last rallies in Cummings, Georgia, Macomb County, Michigan, and Selma, North Carolina, got little national attention. Turnout was low, and the people who showed included a lot of Trump Heads from other states. One guy at the last North Carolina rally said he had traveled 300 miles and that this was his 33rd Trump rally.
I think this Ohio rally will get a lot of attention because of this controversial endorsement, whether or not Trump goes through with it. Attendence might be up, but more people are going to see what a freak show these rallies are.

@Geminid:
There’s no moderate Right left in Ohio – the rallies won’t hurt them and will bring out their base. Trump’s a plus for Ohio Republicans. He may have a downside in other states but he’s all upside for the GOP here. It’s why they’re all slavishly courting him and groveling before him, including the county chairs and state party offocials in that letter.
DeWine has a little bit of a problem when Trump comes. He almost has to appear at the rally and they’re going to boo him and humiliate him but DeWine’s career is one long capitulation to the far Right so he’s used to it.

@Kay: Do you think a Trump endorsement will make a much difference in the outcome of the May primary? His endorsement seems to have propelled North Carolina Congressman Budd ahead of ex-Governor McCrory in that state’s Senate primary. That’s a smaller field, with Budd and McCrory well ahead of a third place candidate.
