After last night’s shitshow, this is going to be a monster fundraising cycle for Democrats. We hit our goals for the awesome boots-on-the-ground stuff Watergirl found but let’s blow it out today. I might add some conventional fundraising for candidates later but I want to shoot you straight and tell you I don’t think there’s a better place than the places Watergirl found.
Update: Here’s we want to raise right now
Voces de la Frontera Action

DOUG!!!!!
Nicole
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Sheila in nc
Why no love for NC? Open Senate seat!
H.E.Wolf
Although I’m sure there’s plenty of love for NC (UNCSA summer programs alum here!), Balloon Juice is currently focused on fundraising for a variety of Get Out The Vote organizations, many of them founded and run by people of color.
If you know of a reputable GOTV group in NC, ideally one that prioritizes voter enfranchisement for people of color, please let WaterGirl know so that it can go on the list of organizations to be considered. Community organizing is powerful!

Also,
Here is an excellent Google document with links for donations to support abortion access/protection, in every state.
WaterGirl
Doug and i have been playing phone tag so neither is up to date on what the other one is up to.
I have already contacted Voces and they know exactly what they could do with another $15k or $25 from us, and they are already looking for possible matches.
Voces would use the money to hire more relational organizers. Remember, in 2020 even without our help, they turned out more votes than the margin of error in 2020. This is exactly the kind of group that will impact the outcome in November 2022.
Planned Parenthood is crazy important, and they will get zillions of dollars, and they won’t be able to change this outcome in the short term.
Our best shot is to keep the House and add to seats in the Senate and get good folks into the statehouses. So that’s the most strategic thing we can do with our outrage, our anger, our frustration at what is happening to our democracy.
Voces de la Frontera Action
Starting at $23,935 on 5/3.
I am getting on a call now with Voces so I will update you all as soon as I have more info.
KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager))
Do we have any matches? I put $100 in the pot. I’m pissed as hell.
MisterDancer
Those matter so much, in cases like these, and for reasons most of us will never see.
A good reminder of why, that I found on Twitter:
WaterGirl
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)):
Voces is in the process of contacting the person who matched us in 2021 for the other half of the field organizing position. They are also reaching out to another partner organization to see if they might match us.
So no promises, but they are working on a double-match for us. So if you donate now and they find a match, it will be matched.
Felanius Kootea
Done! This is going to be a protracted fight.

In for a Benjamin.
No rain will dampen the fuse that has been lit.
DougJ
I’ll hit that one too.
WaterGirl
@Felanius Kootea: We have to play the long game here because the solution to abortion rights – women’s rights to control our own bodies – is now going to have to be in the legislative arena.
And for that we need the House, the Senate, and as many statehouses as we can muster.
randal m sexton
In for 50$ More to come including some shoe leather, or equivalent. Hoping that at least a POWERFUL counter argument to the ‘Why bother voting’ notion has been permanently created. Maybe that is a general effect of the way the Supreme Court is such a nakedly political body now.
MisterDancer
In for $25 right now, will toss more later as I sort out some other issues :)
UncleEbeneezer
@MisterDancer: Exactly. We need both political donations but also donations to those on the ground who are doing the work, especially in red states, to help people in current need.
MazeDancer
Please make a BJ Freedom Fund that supports local pro abortion orgs. Help children raped by their fathers or poor people type orgs.
Divvy up funds ro orgs like these: https://www.thecut.com/article/donate-abortion-fund-roe-v-wade-how-to-help.html
MisterDancer
@MazeDancer: It’s a very good idea, and I only say this to level-set expectations:
As someone who contributes monthly to a few of those funds, some don’t use ActBlue. So the crew here would have to create something from ground-up, and possibly across a host of funding systems. That would be…challenging, I suspect.
Joy in FL
I just put in $25.
Another Scott
I’ve got a monthly donation in with Voces. They’re doing good work.
Donated.
Kinda weird seeing the old-school thermometer! :-)
Cheers,
Scott.
WaterGirl
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)): Thank you for that.
Felanius Kootea
@WaterGirl:
Most definitely.
WaterGirl
@Felanius Kootea: @eachother:
Thank you so much. Protracted fight is right.
WaterGirl
@randal m sexton: @MisterDancer:
Thank you both. Everything depends on the state-by-state fight that’s ahead.
WaterGirl
@Joy in FL: Thank you, Joy.
cain
I’m unemployed right now, but I will give money and start getting this train out of the station at full speed.
Heidi Mom
In for $25, and not for the last time.
la caterina
I put $250 in the pot for Fair Fight Action. Go Stacey Abrams!
Cheryl from Maryland
Done for $100.00. Like hell, I’ll give up the 14th Amendment.
la caterina
Ut oh, donated before DougJ updated to direct everyone to Voces de la Frontera Action.
VFX Lurker
I donated $25 to Voces de la Frontera Action for now. Thank you for making it easy for us to help.
CNYExpat
Just donated $25. Thanks so much!
bjacques
@WaterGirl: thanks for that. I just now sent them (Voces) some love. I was gonna kick in last time around.
StringOnAStick
In for $25, more to come at the end of the month.
MazeDancer
@MisterDancer: Ah. Thanks for info.
The orgs need to sign up for ActBlue. Desperate times and all.
A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan)
Just kicked in $100. Thank you Water Girl!
skerry
Threw $25 in the bucket.
WaterGirl
Thanks so much to everyone who is donating!
I just heard from the folks at Voces de la Frontera, and I should be hearing from them tomorrow about whether they have been able to secure a matche a double match.
dnfree
@WaterGirl: I am still giving monthly to Voces since the previous fundraiser so I hope that counts.
WaterGirl
@dnfree: Yes, that counts, thank you!
Jesse
In for $10/month.
WaterGirl
@Jesse: Thank you!
