U.S.-led sanctions are forcing Russia to use computer chips from dishwashers and refrigerators in some military equipment, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said.https://t.co/Xns2FaVqas

Because Murphy the Trickster God is not a subtle scripter, this news broke just as Matt Schlapp (‘the sound of two uncooked pork chops hitting a freshly washed linoleum floor’), CPAC head & generally unpleasant person, announced his latest customer-service problems on Twitter:
the Home Depot in Alexandria will have this to you by Tuesday https://t.co/7ulOFRinlu pic.twitter.com/led0DQEtto

A certain portion of Snark Twitter hasn’t had this much fun since Todd Starnes’ principled stance against masks cheated him of a replacement toaster oven.

Are there any Republicans who actually live in the real world with the rest of us, or are they all trapped in a cross between the Twilight Zone & Never-Never Land?

ICYMI. Also, what sort of English does this guy speak?
What, no blame the “little lady” for the leak?! :
ETA, the stories up at the AP, too.

My local Lowes has 81 different dishwashers (from generic to Kitchenaid and Bosch) available for delivery. My local Home Depot has 381 different models available for sale; with free delivery and no money down. God bless Uncle Joe’s free market.

Schlapp’s angst over lack of a dishwasher is REAL, people! There’s a global shortage of Sub-Zero and other luxury high end kitchen appliances. You can’t expect someone like Matt Schlapp to just buy a BOSCH? Or a LG? What if the stainless steel doesn’t match their other appliances?
We must all weep for the trod upon elites that can’t buy their $4000 dishwashers. /s
In all seriousness, we just finished a refurb and when our (ordered in 2020 and delayed to 2021 due to COVID) appliances were delivered we got to hear about the 10 – 12 month lead times for some of the higher end brands – Wolf, Jenn-Aire, and something else I’m not remembering.
I’m sure Lowes did actually tell him that he couldn’t have the one he wanted as there was a huge lead time for that brand and that model. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any options. Heck, our cooktop and wine fridge both got broke in storage and only took a few weeks to replace them both. But we weren’t buying brands just for status.

Amazon has 523 dishwashers priced $1,000 and above and another 8,500 models priced below $1,000.
They have over 3,000 models available for…. (checks notes) ….”international shipping”

@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: Dishwasher above $1000! What do those things do?
I mostly have to decide between wash it myself ( easy) or put it in the dishwasher ( why wait?)
Well with a big family you have lots of dishes. True, but with a big family you should have lots of dish washing persons.
JWR
@NotMax: That would be correct. I thought about highlighting the name, just ICYMI, but I know this crowd, and like me, you will never forget that name.

I can’t compete with the jokes here. Just piping in to say that I watched the two new episodes of Hacks released last Thursday on HBOMax. Ep one was a little hokey, ep two was brilliant. So good to see Jean Smart run with a character.
sab
@sab: Big limitation is the dish drainer rack. But with a big family you should have multiple dish dryers to support the dish washer people.
I get the feeling that lots of pundits have never actually washed or dried a dish.
sab
@eclare: Jean Smart could have coasted on her amazing good looks. But instead she became a major comedic and also dramatic talent.
JWR
@sab:
Yeah, but only because Yoo knows something about Constitutional law. Oh wait…

@sab: So true. BTW as the dishwashing and drying staff in a household growing up, in a family where mom insisted silverware be put out even if we were having sandwiches, I now use paper. Just throw it away. Yeah, it’s wasteful, but also doesn’t take water!
David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch
@sab: Consumer Reports has an article that says the more expensive ones have more bells and whistles, some are more quiet, and some use higher end materials (such as a stainless steel tub and door vs plastic)
Here’s a link to the top models they rate (photo). You can pick up a great model for just $380.

@NotMax: My mom always had bruised shins because she tripped over the dishwasher door that she left open for convenience. Never made sense to me. Known obstacle, what was she thinking?
I just banged my shins today on the dishwasher door. Had to laugh at myself. Sorry Mom. I don’t leave it open, but when I am loading there is that door.

@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: I have a Bosch. You can’t even hear it run. And when the control panel blew within the five year warranty, it was replaced free, no charge for anything, once I found the Bosch authorized repair company here.

So I was seriously bitching about my sister, 70 years old, moving last week. Didn’t know that if you left stuff on the curb before trash day good stuff would always be adopted. How could she not know that. That’s how I got half my furniture.
Meanwhile, I drove two hours to see my niece by marriage to retrieve three chairs she had rescued. Ordinary chairs but nice and were in all my baby pictures and matched the dining room table I already have.
Cunning girl snuck in two chairs of unknown provenance that also need new rushing. Sneaky girl. So we brought back five chairs not three. One is trash. Other is a nice chair that only needs a new seat. Cunning niece. I guess I will be re-rushing it before it goes to the thrift shop.
sab
@NotMax: Yes indeed. I have seen. Also too her in Watchmen. Also wasn’t she the VP’s wife in second season 24 many years ago?
eclare
@sab: So glad you got your chairs.

@eclare: I was way over the top whining about them. But happy that they are home with me and not at the landfill.

There is a long, long article on Madison Cawthorne in Politio Magazine. It covers his life from the accident that left him a paraplegic, and through his 2020 election to the present. A synopsis: Cawthorne is a mess, both mentally and emotionally.
What interested me was that Cawthorne may also be a mess electorally, and there is a real chance he won’t be renominated. He faces six challengers in Tuesday’s primary. Normally that would make renomination almost certain, except that North Carolina requires a runoff if no one exceeds 30%. Cawthorne’s opponents are pounding him on the airwaves, while his campaign has gone dark because it’s running out of money.

Comedically, she (along with the character Stefano) were the bright lights in the otherwise strained and forgettable Ab Fab knockoff High Society.

@sab: I did not think your reaction was over the top, even though I have never had any sentimental furniture myself. ‘Gone to the landfill’ is pretty different from ‘someone else in the family has it’.

@There go two miscreants: Also in the garage was a coffee table. Seriously ugly but very sound. Painted ivory with gold trim and some flowers. I vaguely remember it turning up thirty or forty uears ago. Yikes. Niece cheerfully said ” that is going to be a chair.”

Our oven broke a few weeks ago and we found out that it is old enough that Bosch no longer makes replacement parts. Long story short, my husband figured out how to fix it and with the assistance of a parts wholesaler found an equivalent part made by a different brand. When looking at new options I noted that some higher end models were delayed, but there were others available immediately. DIY won’t be possible for every problem, but I’m so happy we managed to salvage the oven.

8500 models? It occurs to me that perhaps the endless bounties of the capitalist system could be dialed back a bit.

@There go two miscreants: A few years ago, one of my dad’s first cousins was throwing photographs in the trash after his parents had died and he was clearing their house. Never contacted his two sisters about them, selfish bastard, but a neighbor saw what he was doing and fished them out, called one of the sisters and made sure she got the photos.

I was wondering what happened to the sarcastic Ragnarok Lobster (@eclecticbrotha). He had not posted on Twitter for a while.
Now Mr. Lobster is back at it. It sounds like he was suspended from Twitter for a few days, as one of his new tweets referred to being in “Twitmo.”

I redid my kitchen this past December. The particular model of Bosch dishwasher that was the Consumer Reports top pick was an 8-10 month backorder. So ordered another Bosch model that shipped within 2 weeks. And I’m perfectly happy with it.

@tom: The highest end models have always had more limited production. When I replaced a dishwasher I noticed the “wait longer” phenomenon for the top line models well before the pandemic. Supply chain issues likely exacerbate the wait, but it’s unlikely he would have been able to get it immediately in any event unless he searched other retailers far and wide and happened to find it.
