UVALDE, Texas — Fourteen students and a teacher are dead after a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, according to Gov. Greg Abbott.
The 18-year-old suspect, a student at Uvalde High School, is also dead, he said.
He shot and killed horrifically and incomprehensibly 14 students and killed a teacher,” Abbott said during an unrelated press briefing.
The suspect also allegedly shot his grandmother before entering the school and again opening fire, Abbott said. He did not say anything further about her condition.
Abbott said the shooter had a handgun and also possibly a rifle.

Way back 10 years ago when Sandy Hook happened, a good friend asked my opinion of whether massacring kindergartners with a semi-automatic would be enough to finally get gun control.
I replied that 100, no, 1000 such massacres could happen every single day and *nothing* would change until voters were willing to make gun control their #1 priority.
Voters haven’t, and nothing has changed. The shootings have become ever more frequent and routine.

People need achievable goals. Telling them it’s just a matter of will is simply not true.
This country is in trouble. The time for telling stories about how we can organize our way out of this is past. We need structural reforms across a whole host of institutions. You’re asking them – over and over and over- to work within a system that simply won’t produce the results they

As a nation we have to ask, when in God’s name, are we going to stand up to the gun lobby.
Mike in Pasadena
Somebody probably already mentioned earlier in the thread that a 3 judge panel a few days ago struck down a law that outlawed guns for 18 years and younger.
Mike in Pasadena
Elizabelle: Never, we gotta have more guns, doncha know.

I watched the speech on Twitter and also scanned the many comments. Christ, we’re a nation of assholes.

‘@debbie-McConnell and the Republicans have to be pressured and made to feel shame by this. They have to be hassled by the press everywhere they go. What’s their answer to this? They asked McConnell a week or two ago if the Republicans take over Congress what will they do? McConnell answered that he didn’t know, we’ll have to find out if they win. Of course, everyone laughed.
The flags in my area(outside of Buffalo) are still at half mast.

The hits keep coming from the Pro-life party…

My wife keeps pushing me to make plans to leave this fucking place. My company has a large office in Hong Kong and I have good relationships with a few of the folks there. I’m at the point – my wife and kids are at the point – after the last several years that I’d probably feel safer living in fucking Hong Kong than here. We have a large office in London as well but, well….not sure that place is much better, although it is on the mass shooting front.
We have a second home in NE PA and spend a decent amount of time there away from NJ. In PA we are about a 15-20 minute drive from the Buffalo shooter’s house. Don’t know how his parents raised him but there are a lot of Trumper parents up here who are influencing their kids and a lot of them aren’t originally from here…they are from much bluer areas. (Buffalo shooter’s dad grew up right near me in central NJ….didn’t know him but same age)

I am either speechless or can only use swear words.
Would anyone mind a comment with the word FUCK repeated 1000 times?
People say we have to protect the kids.
2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. His grandmother.
I think 1000 times is not nearly enough.
I enlisted in the military for this country, during a WAR that got 58,208 Americans killed, WWII we had over 500,000 Americans killed and now we are killing 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. What’s the body count of individual citizens killed by guns in the last 12 yrs, the length of those 2 wars? Wasn’t Sandy Hook enough?
The Pro-Life party. Fuck that they are the Pro-Fucking- Death party.
Typing Fuck 10,000 times isn’t enough.

Between this and the news coming out of the SBC this week, I am beyond done with the GOP, organized religion, the NRA, and anyone who votes for them or gives them money.

Maybe we should form a political party
The Anti Rethuglican Party.
The Anti Children’s Death Party
The Who The Hell Needs All These Guns To Kill Kids Party
The What The Fuck Party.
The Kill The Death Squad Party
The We Don’t Want To Kill Your Kids Party
Chris T.
It’s obviously too soon to talk about this deepfake false flag operation in which nobody died because it never actually happened….

Maybe we should push to boycott open carry states.

Because of all the school shootings (& other instances of gun violence) in the US, which get played up Chinese state & social media, my wife & in-laws are very concerned about my plan to take our daughter to the US for junior high or high school. I have to say I am reevaluating my plans, too.
Incredibly depressing.
Betty Cracker
YY_Sima Qian: Those are certainly valid concerns, and, like you said, it’s incredibly depressing.
