I voted today for the first time in my new location. I had agonised over having to choose between two incumbents in a redrawn district running against each other — Lucy McBath and Carolyn Bourdeaux — but finally ended up voting for McBath. About to go check returns.

Thank you for our awesome call Water Girl! That was fantastic
Barbara
Yes, thanks. I had to leave a little early but it was inspiring.
P.s. Raffensperger and Cisneros are ahead . . .
SiubhanDuinne
It was an excellent zoom meeting! Adding my thanks, WG. If John doesn’t give you a huge raise after all this, there’s something very wrong with the world.
Wakeshift
another lurker here popping up to express gratitude for the temporary fix to Watergirl and Cole and all jackals.
almost embarrassing to admit how difficult last week was, only able to scan the regular crap internet news. I’ve really come to depend on the refined extract high-grade info-product here, both posts and comments.
every time today i read down to the bottom and see the balloon man and the text there, i read it as
“…the extended outrage at 365…”
Seems correct.
Thanks to all

Laughing. Cole has never given me a dime. :-)

I LOVE this: “…the extended outrage at 365…”

i didn’t mean to misappropriate valued commenter Another Lurker’s nym.
any resemblance is unintentional and coincidental
SiubhanDuinne
‘@WaterGirl. Yeah. I kind of knew that.

I’ve told my ARWNJB and his partner that I’m going to bed soon. Because I’m fucking sick of the way they’re trying to justify the school shooting. ARWNJB said “I’m positive those poor, frightened souls wished there was a good guy with a gun in that school.” and I responded “I’m positive those poor, frightened souls wished there wasn’t a bad guy with a gun in that school in the first place.” and the conversation has degenerated from there.

Good for you with your brother!

I wonder how much Georgia Republicans not going full MAGA has to do with how large the black and other minority communities are. They want there to be roadblocks to blacks and others but they don’t want to be so awful that they turn on the whites and kill all of them
SiubhanDuinne
This is going to end in tears. I’m more and more convinced that his very sketchy secret lover is the driving force behind his weird constellation of beliefs. Can’t prove it, but…
StringOnAStick
I saw a local news story that the 18 year old murderer crashed a vehicle into the school while being pursued by police, got out, was “engaged” by the cops (meaning shot at) but because he was wearing body armor, the “good guys with a gun” were unable to stop him from entering the school.
Kind off blows the hell out of the TX Governor’s suggestion that teachers need to be armed when armed and trained law enforcement personnel were unable to stop this guy. I suppose the next escalation will be to require that teachers not only be packing heat, but they must teach while wearing full body armour. That’s obviously the single, only, possible response to all these murders of schoolkids, right?
stacib
‘@ SiubhanDuinne I hope you leave the conversation before you’re too aggravated to sleep. Unfortunately, not only can’t win this one, you’re spitting in the wind.
SiubhanDuinne
‘@StringOnAStick: Did I see, or just imagine, that the 18-year-old murderer killed his grandmother before proceeding to the school?
Suzanne
I’m really not looking forward to the moment everyone on the right tries to blame this on mental illness. Almost all of these shootings are by these loser young men who are angry and maladjusted. I would not be surprised if this one end up the same. None of that is a mental illness.
James E Powell
Cuellar just jumped ahead of Cisneros by about 700 votes. Estimated 91% of the votes counted.

So, um, yeah. I’m thinking that he had a little more than a pistol and a rifle. This is nuts. Unfortunately, what this means is that the police will start to request rocket launchers for these situations, because fuck if anything else will change. Yay. More militarized police. Now blowing up the entire apartment block in no knock raids.
SiubhanDuinne
‘@stacib: As a general rule, I do refrain from engaging. But this event today … I dunno … it really put me over the edge. I feel the need to see my brother’s ridiculous justifications, and I am growly enough that I feel the need to lash out.

The story for the entire week after Columbine was that the shooters were goths and gay lovers. Neither of which turned out to be true. The public will fill in what it wants about the motives.
MaiNaem mobile
‘@siubhanduinne yes, you did. Who knows but it sounds similar to Sandy Hook because I believe the Sandy Hook guy killed his mom first and then went to school. I can’t imagine being the Sandy Hook or Columbine parents reliving this nightmare everytime a mass school shooting happens.
MaiNaem mobile
‘@Suzanne this guy has a Hispanic name so I am sure this one will turn into a ‘see what happens when you let those dirty brown furriners into this country.’
tom
‘@SiubhanDuinne can you translate “ARWNJB”? I get the RWNJ (right-wing nut job) part, but not the rest.
Jackie
‘@Stringonastick: Children school attire will also require bullet-proof clothes.
WaterGirl
‘@ SiubhanDuinne
Your tears, or his? I agree with stacib that it’s probably spitting into the wind. I can’t even talk with my sister about stuff anymore. Sad.
Suzanne
Ehhhh can’t embed the tweet, but Rep. Gallego called Ted Cruz a “fucking baby killer” and I think we need more of this.
Jinchi
TFG comes up a loser in Georgia as Kemp and Raffensberger are demolishing their primary challengers.
Jackie
Trying the dark version. Easier to read, but headache inducing. I’m going to have to switch back to squinting.
jackmac
Although Sen./Rev. Warnock should take nothing for granted in his reelection bid, he IS fortunate to draw the flawed Herschel Walker as his Republican opponent in the Georgia Senate race. It reminds me a bit of the 2004 Illinois Senate race between Barack Obama and the carpetbagging Alan Keyes. Obama carried 70 percent of the vote and won all but 10 of the state’s 102 counties. Warnock may not come anywhere near Obama’s elevated performance, but he has to like where he starts the fall campaign.
WaterGirl
‘@ Jackie
I’m sorry. Have you tried Ctrl+ to increase the size of the letters?
Jackie
Looks like Raffensperger will win. Also Carr will prevail as AG. Not a good night for Trump
Will
I love Warnock and Abrams, but I worry they are both swimming against the current. I’m most worried about Stacey, she was so close but it was an election year where Democrats had a full wind in their sails. I know what she was trying to say, but she’s not going to be able to win this time with inartful comments like the “Georgia is the worst” clip they’ve got now for ads.
frosty
‘@WaterGirl. Not one thin dime!!! Why, it shouldn’t break the bank to double it, right?
Chris T.
‘@WaterGirl
Then John can give you a 5x raise easily!
Stacib
‘@Will: did you hear / read the entirety of what Abrams actually said? I hope they ask her about this over and over. She is amazing when explaining her position. Maybe some folks in GA will start to understand being 1st in infant mortality is not a good thing.
James E Powell
Not much hope for Cisneros. The county that has yet to report went 63/27 for Cuellar on March 1st.
Jackie
‘@WaterGirl: I can enlarge; it’s the font color I’m struggling with. I wish there was an overcast choice between the two available options
Will
‘@Stacib I have read what she was trying to say and I heard her attempt at cleanup. Unfortunately most people don’t read and when they see her words clipped in an attack ad, that is what they are going to believe.
People give Biden so much shit about his “gaffes” but he never gave his opponents something as bad as Mitt’s “47 Percent”, Hillary’s “Deplorables”, or even now Stacey’s “Georgia is the worst.”
Redshift
‘@jackmac:
And that election is the original source of the Crazification Factor! The 27% who voted for Alan Keyes.
Raven
We re-elected our mayor! Go Kelly!!
Redshift
‘@Will:
Believe what you want, I think that’s bullshit. When I got started in politics the belief was very prevalent among Democrats that if you could figure out *just* the right way to say something, Republicans wouldn’t be able to attack you. (In fact, if you don’t slip, they’ll just make something up.) It led to being timid and sounding like they didn’t really stand for anything, and it wasn’t a way to win.
If you believe that one awkward statement can be turned into attack ads that will destroy a campaign, but the incredibly awful things Republicans say *intentionally* somehow won’t, you might as well give up. We’re very polarized; very few people are one attack ad away from switching sides. Turnout is all that matters, and the way you keep an attack from hurting your turnout is to brush it off and talk about what you want to talk about.
Will
‘@Redshift
Believe what you want, but Obama fucking savaged Mitt with his gaffe and Trump, with the media’s help, savaged Hillary with her’s.
I know plenty of morons that make their voting decisions off these “feels” they get, rather than their best interests. It’s why Pennsylvania is about the only battleground state I think is trending to the Dems in the fall.
evodevo
‘@ Watergirl – THANK YOU!! for the keyboard hint on how to increase letter size!! A couple months ago the font on my Yahoo email suddenly went SMALL, and I mean small for no reason I could see, and I have been struggling ever since to read it…THANK YOU FOR CTRL+ HINT.

Silver lining!
I use Safari and it keeps track of how I like to view individual sites. I keep the regular Balloon Juice art 85% but my bank site is really small print, so I keep it at 115%. Not sure what browser you are using, but I imagine all of them do something like that.
