Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

When I was faster i was always behind.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Giving up is unforgivable.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

On June 28 the @US_FDA will convene a special mtg to debate whether variant-specific new #COVID19 #vaccines should be made, perhaps updated routinely for many years, in a manner similar to new annual #flu #vaccines .https://t.co/zkd4G82InH

The @US_FDA briefing documents released in advance of next week's #VRBPAC meeting on Novavax's #Covid vaccine suggest the company may face some tough questions from FDA's vaccine advisory panel. @matthewherper explains. https://t.co/ejRhZZwplo

    Monroe County, NY:

361 new cases reported on 6/3. Oh crap, those previous low numbers were just under-reporting because of the holiday.

New variant-specific vaccines/boosters are what I’ve been waiting for!

Spawn the Younger, who is 11, got her booster on Wednesday. Everyone in the immediate family has now had at least three jabs. EXCEPT for Spawn the Youngest, who turns three next month. We have a family reunion planned, in the Bay Area, and we’re supposed to leave on June 17. I am really not happy about the idea of taking her anywhere unvaxxed. This wait is just making me crazy.

Especially because we could have been two Pfizer doses in by now! FOR FUCK’S SAKE.

@Suzanne: I saw the youngest kids will have to get 3 shots. I’m not sure of the intervals between them. My youngest granddaughter is only 3 months old so will still have to wait. Her mother is fully vaccinated so that’s supposed to help. But she had to start daycare so that’s always a worry.

I got my 2nd booster yesterday morning. I was dreading it because shot 2 and booster 1 kicked my ass for 24 hours. Thankfully, this one isn’t so bad. Slight headache and a few achy joints and the shoulder that got the injection. Coffee and ibuprofen has me feeling pretty good. Now for a busy day of errands!

ETA – flying to Vegas next week for figured extra protection would be a good idea.

Cases rose slightly to 101,400, about 9% below their peak of 110,800 seven days ago. Deaths declined to yet again to 260. During the entire time of the pandemic, deaths were only lower than this during the first three weeks of last July. If this continues, it will be the best news since vaccinations began.

Our World in Data did not update hospitalizations today.

In general cases are declining in the Blue States, and rising in the red States.

Bio bot shows cases rising during the last week of May in all Census regions of the US except the Northeast. In the third week of May BA.4 was only 0.9% of cases nationwide, but 2.2% of cases in the South. As I indicated on Tuesday, this variant has risen to 6.1% of all cases as listed by the CDC last week (but is still classified as BA.1.1.529 in their graph).

Looking at vaccinated individuals who had a breakthrough Omicron infection, BioNTech found that those individuals showed a better b-cell response than individuals who had been boosted but not infected. B-cells, a type of white blood cell, are a component of the body’s immune system that helps produce antibodies.

The University of Washington’s study compared blood samples of individuals who had been vaccinated and then caught Delta or Omicron with those who had caught COVID first and were then vaccinated, those who had been vaccinated but never infected, and those who were infected and never vaccinated.

The study found that vaccinated individuals who caught Omicron produced antibodies that formed a formidable defense against other variants of the virus. Unvaccinated people who caught Omicron did not have a similarly robust and protective immune response.

However, any protections, no matter how strong, only last so long. The immunity of both boosted and previously infected individuals wears off after several months.

I think Special Olympics should have gone with the vaccination requirements, masking requirements, the whole safety constellation, while testing the ability of a state government to deny safety standards in court.

Then let DeathSantis attempt to bankrupt the organization while fighting THAT issue in the courts, and see how that plays out politically for the monster.

At least the kids wouldn’t catch a deadly viral plague, right? I’m one to test the limits on occasion…

If DeSantis or one of his ilk gain the WH in ’24, the cost in lives and suffering will be significant. That Special Olympics thing is a disaster in the making.

Imagine living with a disability, and having a powerful governor say “Increasing your risk of developing post-infection diabetes by 59%, or having 6 or 12 months of long Covid symptoms is just fine. Freedumb!”

@J R in WV: It sucks. I’d think the board looked at even the minute risk that DeSantis flips out and tries to fine Special Olympics the whole $27M and they couldn’t take that – it would devastate their finances, even if the chance was remote (I can’t imagine the blowback if Ron tried to hit a frunkin’ beloved nonprofit with an extinction-level fine. But these guys have at least a partial teflon coating.)
