NEW: The Senate just confirmed Biden's judicial nominee Nina Morrison, putting someone onto the federal bench with the extraordinary background of having helped to free dozens of innocent people from prison and death row. https://t.co/jGQXpWDQ2l

the answer to "why don't the democrats tell manchin and sinema to eat shit and go to hell" is: "Morrison, 52, has spent the last 20 years being the senior litigation counsel at the New York-based Innocence Project" https://t.co/6le7EIQs9D

the biden admin successfully seated a 52-year old district court judge who has *personally* worked to free more than 30 wrongfully convicted people from prison and she will remain there for life unless she moves up in the ranks.
if they didn’t have manchin and sinema on board for this vote, they would not have gotten collins, murkowski or graham.
i don’t really care about “giving biden credit”, but they have earned it when it comes to their judiciary picks, and that should matter a *hell of a lot more* than it does to people who claim to care about fairness and justice.
Despite — I’m sure the man would want this on the record — Tom Cotton’s best efforts to block her:
That a person living with some of the highest moral, Biblical, American, democratic principles—gets confronted by the gross stupidity of one the pathetic ogres of negative polarization—is such a contrast to the shining courage it takes to fight for truth and justice. pic.twitter.com/N1qc92n4JO

Impressive. I’m betting this that she was never recruited by The Federalist Society.

Speaking of our uncorruptable judiciary, Coathanger will be publishing her deep thoughts for a deep trough of cash.
Somebody please tell me we’re going to survive these people.

I saw that Nancy Smash isn’t in a Rush to put extra protection for SCOTUS up for a vote since the Kavanaugh incident. To which I say:
Good!
It shouldn’t get a vote at all until Repukes are ready to pass some gun legislation to protect the rest of us plebs.
Until then kegger Brett can have some thoughts and prayers.

This is great news. And it just reinforces my appreciation of President Biden.
Although trivial by comparison, but somewhat related, is this story about one of the lawyers in the recent Johnny Depp trial.
I think I only noticed this story because the NY Post chose to run a story about Vasquez’ boyfriend.

@trollhattan: I can’t, in good conscience. And I’m now thinking it’s been that damned conscience that’s held me back all these years.

@germy shoemangler:
I’m trying to recall any Trump EO that went as far as to regulate private parties like that.

@germy shoemangler:
That’s regulating the military, which clearly falls with the president’s supervision. An assualt weapons ban would regulate private parties.
germy shoemangler
@Baud:
Like a well-regulated militia?
Baud
@germy shoemangler:
That would be a great deal more of a stretch than the traditional military, especially after Heller.
I just don’t think it helps our cause to pump up Trump’s actions beyond reality and then compare Biden’s actions to that fiction.

She makes an excellent point here:
An innocent person sitting in prison means the person who actually committed the crime is still out there.

@Baud:
Okay, I’ll give myself a time out, for being unhelpful to our cause.
Maybe Kimmel can join me.
Baud
@germy shoemangler:
The damage is done wrt Kimmel. But at least Biden gave a good answer.

Ted Cruz calling others “radical”. …. uh huh. No.

I want to know more about the two people they pulled out of a vat of chocolate at the M&M factory, but details aren’t forthcoming.

Anne, Thank you for the video, because I had only seen clips of the interview. It’s worth watching the entire thing.

@Cacti: They just passed something for SCOTUS last week.
@Kropacetic: Agree.

@Spanky: Did they yell Fire?
Calouste
@germy shoemangler: It all makes sense if, like Cruz and most other right-wingers, you think that if someone gets arrested by the police that means they’re guilty. Because the police would never make mistakes, or heaven forbid frame people, would they?
JPL
@Cacti: Sotomayor’s life was threatened by the same person who killed the husband and son of the judge in New Jersey. I don’t remember the republicans yelling on the floor of the house and senate then.

Biden has made a point of appointing Judges who have seen the defendant’s side. This is long overdue. For too long only prosecutorial experience was deemed appropriate for a judge.
